Because I was absolutely convinced the answer was completely different Confused

What is Robert Louis Stevenson famous for?

Gardeningdream · 14/02/2022 11:41

To be fair I didn’t know he wrote Jekyll and Hyde, I did know about treasure island.

Celiamary · 14/02/2022 11:43

Without Googling
Stephenson Father and Son - Railways and Civil Engineering
Stevenson a locomotive engineer

TibetanTerrah · 14/02/2022 11:44

Isn't it funny how the wrong information gets so cemented in our minds. I remember learning about the locomotive/railways at school and somewhere along the way I've got confused with the author's name and it's firmly stuck as "knowledge" for literally decades Grin

This is probably why I'm terrible at pub quizzes tbf...

Robert Stephenson was George Stephenson's son.

His heritage home is just down the road from me and I went to the local high school named after George.

lljkk · 14/02/2022 12:03

I thought he was the inventor of steam (railway) engine.

Voon · 14/02/2022 12:05

First thought - ‘the railways’.

Then, ‘ah no hang on, Robert Louis Stevenson. Jeckyll and Hyde’.

He wrote Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Travels with a Donkey and many other novels and poems.
His uncles were engineers who built lighthouses around the coast of UK.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/02/2022 12:13

George Stephenson’s desk is in the National Railway Museum ion York.
