Isn't it funny how the wrong information gets so cemented in our minds. I remember learning about the locomotive/railways at school and somewhere along the way I've got confused with the author's name and it's firmly stuck as "knowledge" for literally decades

Robert Stephenson was George Stephenson's son.

His heritage home is just down the road from me and I went to the local high school named after George.

I thought he was the inventor of steam (railway) engine.

First thought - ‘the railways’.

Then, ‘ah no hang on, Robert Louis Stevenson. Jeckyll and Hyde’.

I’ve never heard of him!

His uncles were engineers who built lighthouses around the coast of UK.
