Because I was absolutely convinced the answer was completely different Confused

What is Robert Louis Stevenson famous for?

OP posts:
Shannith · 14/02/2022 11:21

Treasure Island.

BasiliskFace · 14/02/2022 11:21

@BasiliskFace

I would also say Treasure Island but I understand if you got him mixed up with the steam engine man, I have done that before - they are different spellings of Stevenson/ Stephenson though (and different first names of course!)
Actually I see from PP not different first names - there was George and Robert - so even more easily done!
HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 14/02/2022 11:21

But RLS wrote my favourite poem which is on a train(I think) off to google.

DistrictCommissioner · 14/02/2022 11:21

Yes, in fact I’ve read a biography of his wife. Further fact - his family were lighthouse engineers around Scotland.

What did you think he did?

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/02/2022 11:21

@Wigeon

He wrote Treasure Island. Are you thinking of George Stevenson who invented the locomotive?
I was about to ask if the OP was thinking of George Stephenson.
DropYourSword · 14/02/2022 11:21

I think so. But now I'll go check!

TibetanTerrah · 14/02/2022 11:21

@Louisianagumbo

Robert Louis Stephenson was an author Robert Stephenson was involved with railways. ...I think!
Yeah this is what I thought. I was absolutely sure of myself, got a bit of a shock to discover he wrote Jekyll and Hyde and Treasure Island! Grin

Yep, RLS train poem is 'From a railway carriage"

DistrictCommissioner · 14/02/2022 11:23

For a while (no idea why) I thought Beatrix Potter and Beatrice Webb (one of the founders of LSE and the Fabian Society) were the same person.

TibetanTerrah · 14/02/2022 11:26

I mean, i spent many years believing Andrew Flintoff and Freddie Flintoff were brothers and not the same person, but this was a new level for me Grin

They're two different people, @TibetanTerrah

sabrinatheteenagemortal · 14/02/2022 11:27

I went with the inventor of rocket, turns out he is just Robert Stephenson. I have a science background so i don't think it's too much of an embarrassment.

AnEpisodeOfEastenders · 14/02/2022 11:27

He wrote Treasure Island, one of my all time favourites!

BestZebbie · 14/02/2022 11:28

DistrictCommissioner - Beatrix Potter was heavily involved in developing the early National Trust (and was also a talented mycologist who got turned away from the Royal Society for being female) so isn't as dissimilar as if you only consider the talking bunnies.

littlbrowndog · 14/02/2022 11:29

Lighthouses

Yes. And lighthouses.

GrendelsGrandma · 14/02/2022 11:31

I love RLS. As a teen I really enjoyed Travels with a Donkey, which is just a story of him buying a donkey and attempting to get across a mountain pass with it.

Comefromaway · 14/02/2022 11:33

Treasure Island

LoseLooseLucy · 14/02/2022 11:36

Ooh I knew 😊 (doubted myself though after the OP).

KittenKong · 14/02/2022 11:39

Travels with a donkey was one of dads favourite books. He used to give copies as gifts. I have a lovely old one somewhere. We used to joke that this was the caption of photos from when he and mum went on their travels.

Celiamary · 14/02/2022 11:39

Jekyl & Hyde?

MintyGreenDream · 14/02/2022 11:40

Treasure Island I remember it from The Simpsons

Justcallmebebes · 14/02/2022 11:40

Yes, I know without googling
