Are you / your company recruiting?

What is the job market like from your side?

I am looking for a new job, and it seems like there are loads of jobs being advertised at the minute. My company is also recruiting (for a couple of roles in different departments), and they seem to have had a number of applications, but people dropping out of the process left, right and centre and are finding it hard to get people to interview. Is that normal?

Yes - my employers are desperate for admin staff. They have recently set c30 on but still need more, they are struggling with the low calibre of applicants though.

That's interesting. I wonder where all the jobs are coming from?! My industry / employment type wasn't particularly effected by covid but the job market seems to be booming.

Very much so although im in logistics so I think it's well known that we're still need HGV drivers.

Blankiefan · 11/02/2022 17:28

Yes. Its a candidates market. Great time to be looking for a new opportunity

Imicola · 11/02/2022 17:30

Yes, i work in the civil service, and having had an external recruitment freeze for a while we are now looking for over a hundred new staff. Large recruitment campaign.

Hoppinggreen · 11/02/2022 17:31

I need at least 1 staff member..
Last time I recruited I only had 1 suitable candidate, luckily she’s really good so God knows how I’m going to find another one.

LBOCS2 · 11/02/2022 17:32

Yep. I recruited for a senior member of staff from Sept and only found a decent candidate in December - and I had to compromise on their seniority for it. Now I'm looking for a junior; some interviews lined up next week but not holding my breath.

qualitygirl · 11/02/2022 17:34

Yes...I'm in pharmaceuticals! Lots of jobs going!

NoWordForFluffy · 11/02/2022 17:37

Yes, we have a few positions which we seem to be struggling to fill.

Redcrayons · 11/02/2022 17:39

Yes we are.
We’ve had one change his mind this week, he’s taken delivery of the company car as well!

It’s a candidates market at the moment.

RussianSpy101 · 11/02/2022 17:45

We were advertising for a part time admin position just before Christmas. We had over 30 applicants but only interviewed 5. The calibre of candidate wasn’t the best to be honest but then we were stuck between 2.
One of them did actually want more hours and called up the day after the interview to say she had secured a role with more hours so that made our decision for us.
The lady we took on is really good so it worked out well in the end.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 11/02/2022 17:56

Yes, we're recruiting. Hard to find good people.

Dartsplayer · 11/02/2022 17:58

Our company have been recruiting, lots of positions available and lots of applicants but the calibre of the applicants is poor

happyfroday · 11/02/2022 17:58

I might be looking shortly contract or perm,,but I need something WFH with flex. I have this currently but it's a contract role, great flex although super demanding at short notice.

Would you say your companies are more flexible post covid ? It's good to know that there maybe potential to get a better role if the pool isn't brilliant.

GraceJonesBiggestFan · 11/02/2022 18:01

Yes, accountancy and admin, really struggling to get even applicants.

Gizlotsmum · 11/02/2022 18:02

Yep recruiting in loads of areas and often see posts readvertised after the first run ( lack of applicants/ poor quality of applicants) we aren’t the highest payers so have always struggled a bit but def got worse

SunnyKlara · 11/02/2022 18:04

I'm in engineering, so it really does seem like almost every sector is on a massive recruitment drive...

but the fact that everyone also seems to be struggling for good candidates is worrying. Have employers stopped training and developing their staff? Or are young people leaving education without sufficient skills?! I know I am moving on because of lack of development. But I also know that the jobs I am applying for are a step up, to ensure I get that development. Perhaps I will be seen as a poor candidate, because employers want ready made staff?

Yes recruiting for an info security audit role and can't find anyone. Either no experience or loads but has already been offered a job in the 5 mins between submitting CV and me calling them.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 11/02/2022 18:20

Yes same where I am couldn’t find anyone to fill a role , only 1 person experienced invited for interview and didn’t turn up .

potter5 · 11/02/2022 18:26

Had 3 interviews for admin role, 3 second interviews and offered all 3 roles. Start new job next week. Job market is very much buoyant at the moment.

MushMonster · 11/02/2022 18:37

Mine seems to be struggling to recruit for some roles, and refusing to recruit for some other departments.
I am glad to hear it is a candidates market! I am looking for a job too!

GiantSpider · 11/02/2022 18:40

Yes, we're recruiting. Lots of high quality applicants.

Landlordworries · 11/02/2022 18:42

I work in Mh. Loads of counsellors started with me less than a year ago. Around 22 of us. Only me and one other left! Recruitment always ongoing.

WeAllHaveWings · 11/02/2022 19:07

We have been looking for staff in Scotland for over a year, great employer, above average wages for the role in Scotland (£40-£50k), opportunities to progress and hybrid working. We interviewed a few, some very good people, but just not the right mix of functional skillset and experience. Found one who was a perfect fit and have had to take a leap of faith with another four, two of which are not even in the base location we wanted, but there was noone else locally.

The good news is, I suspect partly due to the difficultly in hiring, the role profile was rebanded and we got an unexpected 10% wage increase 💷 😀

Vacancies were due to a couple of early retirements and a reorganisation.

SunnyKlara · 12/02/2022 12:26

That's a good point about early retirement. Quite a few people I know have drastically changed their plans wrt retirement after covid. Add in two years of experienced people reaching retirement age, then perhaps that explains some of the demand for people to fill jobs.
