Fill me full of your favourite facts. The more obscure, the better!

My favourite all time fact is that two halves of a supermarket sandwich are never from the same sandwich and are each another half of another pair. Unbelievable.

I met a grown man who didn't know peanuts grew underground recently too, which pleased me.

Enlighten me further!

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

Thanks for the explanations re the medals - I think I, sort of, get it now?!

So was the fact basically that all of the men's sprint medals except one bronze or silver were won by black athletes; or did Roger Black win one of the gold medals, thus being the only non-black man to win any of the sprints, even though he was a 'Black' man (by name)?!

My head hurts!!!!

I just proper broke DH's brain with that one 😂

Dion Dublin ( Ex footballer and Homes under the Hammer presenter ) has invented a musical instrument called the dube
I met him once. He smells nice. Have that as a useless fact about him

If you took all of earth time and compressed it into 24 hours, with the world formed at 00:00, the first dinosaurs appear at 22:45 and the first humans appear at two minutes to midnight.

Your foot is as long as your elbow to your wrist.

Also platypus and echidna do still produce milk but they don't have nipples so their young just suck it off patches of their mothers skin like sweat!

'Queue' and 'aitch' are the only five-letter words in the English language from which you can remove 80% of the letters without changing the pronunciation.

The northernmost US state is Alaska.
The easternmost US state is Alaska.
The westernmost US state is Alaska.

There is a house in Europe whose front door (and thus the whole house officially) is in two different countries.

Re the Edinburgh one, the 'standard' UK map we're all used to has been 'straightened up' quite severely to fit nicely on to one page of an atlas or a poster, but it's actually at a very different angle in reality. If you asked most people which two UK home nation capitals are on the same line of longitude, almost everybody would guess at London and Edinburgh, but the actual answer is Cardiff and Edinburgh.

Only two countries in the world have no official (technically speaking) capital city - Switzerland and Nauru. Most countries have just one capital, quite a few have two, but only one - South Africa - has three.

@MrsSkylerWhite what does that mean? How would it stop the flight?

FunkyPhantom · 09/02/2022 23:02

Lee Harvey Oswald was the first person to be murdered live on television

Paul McCartney's first name is James, Paul is his middle name

Twinkle twinkle little star, and the alphabet tune... are the same

And "ba ba black sheep" is also the same tune

@MrsSkylerWhite what does that mean? How would it stop the flight?“

Presumably, it’s strength would provide enough resistance to slow the ‘plane to a stop.

Paul McCartney's first name is James, Paul is his middle name

Three of the UK's prime ministers were all men with the first name James, but who were all known by their middle name.

It did have eyebrows but years of over cleaning has faded them away

The sandwiches thing isn't entirely correct. Some factories make 2 sandwiches on top of each other then cut - resulting in 2 halves from different sandwiches in a packet. Some make one, cut in half and flip the whole sandwich into one packet!

I've seen it on a video linked to from a thread on here about this very subject!

In 'The Railway Children', 11yo Phyllis was played by 20yo Sally Thomsett. Jenny Agutter, who played Phyllis' elder sister Bobbie in the film, was only 18.

Who is reputed to have murdered 25% of the world's population?

ClariceQuiff · 09/02/2022 23:12

Surely that's a bit of a paradox. How can you create a kit kat filling made up of rejected kit kits if a kit kat had never been invented, until they were invented and at that point the rejected kit kat wouldn't be a available to become the filling, ahhhhhhhh my brain hurts

New paradox: Which came first, the KitKat or the ... er ... KitKat?
