Fill me full of your favourite facts. The more obscure, the better!

My favourite all time fact is that two halves of a supermarket sandwich are never from the same sandwich and are each another half of another pair. Unbelievable.

I met a grown man who didn't know peanuts grew underground recently too, which pleased me.

Enlighten me further!

Your earlobes are inline with your nipples.
Not if I'm lying down 😂

A boy will always be taller than his mother
Partially correct but it has certain factors needed to be true.

A boy will always be a minimum of 2 inches taller than his mother if the father is more than 4 inches taller than the mother.

Dead Ringer for Love was a Meat Loaf and Cher duet. She was hardly unknown! She'd been wildly famous since the 60s!

That was the point I was (jokily) trying to make! I know that Cher was a big star, long before Meat Loaf even came on to the scene.

PP had already mentioned some very famous singers who had sung on the well-known songs of other (sometimes less) famous singers but nevertheless gone under the radar and not received as much credit or acknowledgment for their contributions as you might have expected, given their celebrity.

Competitive art used to be an Olympic sport

Didn't they introduce mud throwing too? I seem to recall hearing that, in the early days, they wanted to encourage more African nations to take part - and they exercised their racist minds hard to think about what the Africans could relate to and have a chance at doing well in. Not that Africans are human or anything, of course, which would have meant they could run, jump, swim etc. Hmm

I was just listening to a bit on the news bemoaning the lack of U.K. Winter Olympics medals. It occurred to me the problem is that they're all unfairly geared towards snow and ice sports, whereas they should include A) sports played throughout the year in all weathers (rugby? Football?) and B) some which involve copious quantities of mud. Winter trail and fell running, maybe?

Of course, the very concept of 'winter olympics' doesn't work for tropical/subtropical countries. Are there any uniquely tropical sports for balance?

(Sorry, digressing from facts!)

@Hairyfriend

Kangaroos and wallabies can get pregnant, but suspend the pregnancy at 100 cells, until their current joey is large enough to leave the pouch, or rains come and there is better food available.
I headed this yesterday too

If they introduced contests at the WO for ability to be out at midnight in January without a coat or jumper on and not complaining or performance-shivering even once, the good folk of Newcastle would bring home the gold for the UK every single time Grin

@ThoseWhoDance what kind of paws? Like cats? Confused!

AuxArmesCitoyens · 12/02/2022 17:32

A boy will always be a minimum of 2 inches taller than his mother if the father is more than 4 inches taller than the mother.

Surely that depends on environmental factors, like if the boy grows up with severe malnutrition he will be shorter.

Zilla1 · 12/02/2022 17:39

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll I think some of the menopausal might compete strongly, irrespective of geography.

Yes, under microscope, spiders have paws - rather like a cat's! I've been much more partial to spiders since I've found that outGrin

There are some photos of spider 'paws' on this thread.

Rubbish. DH is 10 inches taller than me and DS2 is my height and won't grow taller.

Ahh see your proof of why this doesn't work & there are always certain factors at play.

@TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo when my son passed his driving test when he was 17 he was my height , 5 feet 4 inches . Within the next 12 months he was 6'2" . There's still time for your boy to overtake you .

You can tell an animal's diet from its eye shape. Predators have forward-facing eyes with vertical slit pupils, prey animals have eyes on the side with horizontal pupils.

What about the 'Golden Mole'?

It has no external eyes...

AuxArmesCitoyens · 12/02/2022 21:39

If you can see its eyes and it follows that pattern, that will tell you its diet.

A swan is the only bird with a penis.
Ducks have long cork screw shape penis so swans can’t be the only ones.

The sloth has eyes in the front of the head, yet is prey for the Harpy eagle, whose eyes are on the sides of the head.
