Fill me full of your favourite facts. The more obscure, the better!

My favourite all time fact is that two halves of a supermarket sandwich are never from the same sandwich and are each another half of another pair. Unbelievable.

I met a grown man who didn't know peanuts grew underground recently too, which pleased me.

Enlighten me further!

Actually, now I’m confused again. It made sense to me quite briefly! Why use separate halves of sandwiches? When you can just use one sandwich and cut it in half?

HelloFrostyMorning · 10/02/2022 16:55

@Seraphina1993

Also Gary Oldman's sister is Big Mo in Eastenders.

OMG, I did not know this! There is ZERO likeness!

Reminds me, just a few months ago, I discovered the funny actor/comedian who comes out with lots of quick-fire one-liners (Tim Vine,) is the brother of the broadcaster and chat show host JEREMY Vine.

Gobsmacked I was when I found that out.

What's your favourite fact?
JaneJeffer · 10/02/2022 16:57

Now I'm gobsmacked @HelloFrostyMorning!

@AmysBeehive

Your foot is the same size as the distance from your elbow to your wrist
Just tested this, not true 😂 About an inch shorter.

Don't think of you making a single round of sandwiches for yourself - think of long loaves of sandwiches being made all at once. So you have slice, filling, slice, slice, filling, slice etc. You end up with something roughly approximating a very tall square Big Mac - much easier (especially if automated) to take them two at a time off half of the stack rather than matching up the top ones, the next ones down etc.

JaneJeffer · 10/02/2022 17:01

Nope @HelloFrostyMorning I would never have guessed Grin

IntermittentParps · 10/02/2022 17:04

@Cattenberg

Liechtenstein’s last military engagement was during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, when 80 men were sent to guard the Brenner Pass between Austria and Italy. 81 men returned, because there were no casualties and they made a friend on the way. Smile
Grin Who was he? Are there books/films etc about him or by him?
Soubriquet · 10/02/2022 17:05

What about this one.

We know humans can be allergic to cats but did you know some cats are allergic to humans Grin

@headlock

A group of ladybirds is called a loveliness.
Sounds like it should be a promiscuous ness
HelloFrostyMorning · 10/02/2022 17:15

A few more famous people who are related.

There's also George Clooney being the nephew of Hollywood starlet Rosemary Clooney! I didn't know that til about 5 years ago...

And Lily Allen's stepfather (from when she was around 5 to 15) was Harry Enfield!

Tom Hanks is related to Abraham Lincoln. Hanks is the third cousin, four generations removed, of Lincoln the President.

Brad Pitt and Barack Obama are ninth cousins.

Melissa McCarthy and Jenny McCarthy are first cousins.

Hillary Clinton and Angelina Jolie are distant cousins.

Madonna and Celine Dion are distant cousins.

Dakota and Elle Fanning are distant cousins to Kate Middleton.

I'm sure I recall reading somewhere that every single US president has been related to the British royal family - don't know if that's true. It might just be that everybody is, if you go back far enough?!

DomingoinLittleOakley · 10/02/2022 18:09

@SecretKeeper1

There is only one country separating Norway and North Korea.

Shock

Are you absolutely sure about that?
DomingoinLittleOakley · 10/02/2022 18:10

Oh hang on - I've just looked at a map, I see what you mean now!

FunkyPhantom · 10/02/2022 18:13

The plural of mongoose is mongooses

Metallica were the first band to have played on all seven continents

The name of the murder victim in UK editions of Cluedo is Dr. Black

Bohemian Rhapsody is the only song to be Christmas No. 1 twice with exactly the same song and the same band line up

You can only play Polo right handed to avoid head on collisions between horse and rider

Baa baa black sheep is also used in the beginning of Gotye's song ' Somebody that I used to know ' 👍

@DomingoinLittleOakley

There is only one country separating Norway and North Korea.

Technically, no. There is a massive chunk of Finland in the way.

I suppose what the OP could have said is that you could travel directly from Norway to North Korea with only one other country getting in the way?

cdba88 · 10/02/2022 18:20

Sad fact:

For every 30 midwives that newly qualify, 29 leave.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 10/02/2022 18:21

In the video for "Fairytale of New York" the boys from the NYPD choir turned out not to know the words to Galway Bay. So instead, they're singing the Mickey Mouse Club song ("who's the leader of the gang, who's great for you and me...?")

@AffIt

No, that poster is correct, There is only one country separating Norway and North Korea. (Russia obvs!)

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/02/2022 18:31

Normans (as in the Norman conquest) were the descendants of vikings who had invaded France.

cdba88 · 10/02/2022 18:36

@HelloFrostyMorning because it's bloody awful at the moment! I'm not yet qualified, but already burnt out. Staff are leaving and taking early retirement at alarming rates.
It breaks my heart when I have no choice but to give shit care to women, and that's the real kicker!

Here's another fact:
In 2021, 57% of midwives surveyed said they were considering leaving their job in the next year.

Our bodies are only 10% human cells, the other 90% are bacteria that support the 10%.
