Fill me full of your favourite facts. The more obscure, the better!

My favourite all time fact is that two halves of a supermarket sandwich are never from the same sandwich and are each another half of another pair. Unbelievable.

I met a grown man who didn't know peanuts grew underground recently too, which pleased me.

Enlighten me further!

(because you have to be a complete prick etc.)

Leap years and the Summer Olympic games always fall in the same year. A good way to remember when a leap year is...or visa versa.

TroublesomeTrucks · 10/02/2022 12:58

Gary Oldman is younger than Gary Numan.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 10/02/2022 13:16

Gary Oldman is younger than Gary Numan.

That's had me giggling far more than should be necessary!

Pinkstegosaurus · 10/02/2022 13:22

@sashh

I've seen a rainbow from a plane, I was looking down at a double rainbow which was a complete circle.

This is why you can never get to the end of one.

Pot of gold at the end is such a con :(

That the pyramids used to be white -covered in white casing stones (all pilfered now)

also (not yet a fact although strong evidence supports) when the pyramids were built, Egypt was green and had much more rainfall. If this is true imagine those white pyramids sticking out of a lush green backdrop 😍

Every tiger has a unique stripe pattern.

Loving some of the facts on here particularly the stone carrying otters

JaneJeffer · 10/02/2022 14:05

A catshark and a dogfish are the same creature.

caranations · 10/02/2022 14:23

Zebras are black with white stripes.

And "ba ba black sheep" is also the same tune
No it's not

Ah come on, SURELY everyone sings it
ABCD,EFGHI
JKLM,NOPeeeee
QRSTU,VWXYZ
And one for the alphabet who lives down the lane![/quote]
No, on account of them being different, albeit starting the same and similar. Twinkle/US alphabet song is pretty much all pairs of notes isn't it, Baa baa doesn't stick to that.

Of course the alphabet song which ends in zed rather than zee is completely different.

Also, that the tallest/biggest pyramid in the world is nowhere near Egypt at all - it's in Mexico.

Tomatoes are fruit. But they clearly don't belong in a fruit salad.

Pinkstegosaurus · 10/02/2022 15:23

I’ve learnt a lot from this thread but most significantly I’ve learnt how much I want a Kit Kat

Penners99 · 10/02/2022 15:37

The longest single flight duration for an aircraft is 64 DAYS and a few hours

@opinionminion

Biscuitlover268 the sandwich is not made from two slices of bread then cut in half ... like we would do at home. They are just two random half sandwiches with the same filling !
Is it so that supermarket sandwiches are in uniform size? And what happens to the unused halves? 🤔
peachescariad · 10/02/2022 15:44

The Latin name for lead is plumbum, hence it's known as Pb in periodic table and that's where the name 'plumber' comes from.

IntermittentParps · 10/02/2022 15:50

I've only got as far as the hyena thing and that woolly mammoths still walked the Earth whilst the pyramids were being built, and I can't go on. I'm staggered.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/02/2022 15:56

There are no unused halves, they will be paired in another box of course.

There's a thing about this... 'knowledge is knowing that tomatoes are a fruit, wisdom is knowing that they don't belong in a fruit salad'.

Omg 😂

Gary Oldman is younger than Gary Numan.
Also Gary Oldman's sister is Big Mo in Eastenders

This thread is great! My contribution is:

Octopus suckers can stick to everything except octopus skin - to prevent them getting tangled up.
Also - plural of octopus is octopuses (not octopi) because it's a root Greek word, not Latin.

Door entrance keypad code numbers can be entered in any order and still open the door.

Found this out in my last job when one person thought the code was 1066 and someone else thought it was the other guy's birth year.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 10/02/2022 16:45

The name Kit Kat came from the Kit Kat club which was named after Christopher Catling who used to hold a literary and political club in his pie shop in London in 17th century.

Aah!💡That makes more sense! I was thinking of the sandwiches that are made at home you see?
