Office perks you love?

I've always worked in genuinely shit offices - leaky air con, no natural light etc.

Then today I visited the new site I'm being moved to and it's amazing - there is a free hot chocolate station, free breakfast, free electric scooter hire and it's own roof terrace. I'm quite excited for it all.

So what are your best office perks?

We’ve got a kettle?

JennysWell · 08/02/2022 19:55

Free tea/coffee/fruit. Although the best was when we had free parking

MrsDThomas · 08/02/2022 19:55

Dirty fridge
Microwave
Boiling water on tap
Sharpie pens
Postit notes

How cool!

HeartburnHell · 08/02/2022 19:57

That sounds amazing!

At my old job we got free snacks (fruit, yogurt, oat bars, etc.), bacon rolls every Friday, regular nights out (paid for), our birthday's off, a gift on our work anniversary... it was pretty good 👌

FrankieBoyleSezLoveOneAnother · 08/02/2022 19:58

Free magazines. Regular hot samosas.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/02/2022 19:59

At DHs office... dogs. We would both love a dog,but fully admit we haven't the time to care for one properly. So being able to share the office dogs is great. (The dogs belong to his colleagues, and they share care if them between meetings etc and dog sit if someone has to go on a trip.)

This is more practical than a fun perk but my office has a room for breastfeeding mothers which is private, lockable, has a nice comfy chair, sink, and fridge with lockable sections so you can express and store milk at work if your child takes expressed milk to nursery.

wendz86 · 08/02/2022 20:04

We get free breakfast - porridge / toast / yoghurt . Also free fruit . They do a drinks trolley on a Thursday too with free drinks .

We used to have a site dentist and hygienist. Free treatment as well. Saved everyone missing work because they were going to see the dentist. Unfortunately for a while they were in a portakabin with really thin walls and my boss had the room next door so could hear the drill. And then they all got sacked due to budget constraints - but the staff shop still sold cheapo toothpaste.

I work in secondary school office. Luxurious it isn't, but I sit by a gorgeous big window that I keep open for a nice breeze. The biggest perk is hilarious teenagers passing by all the time and having a chat.

Also I can do the odd photocopy or scan of personal stuff now and again and nobody minds. Can also have hot drinks whenever I like.

BlueThursday · 08/02/2022 20:09

We didn’t even get soap in our office Grin

Belle89 · 08/02/2022 20:09

Dog friendly and small wooded area/open field on site

PlinkPlankPlunk · 08/02/2022 20:13

Access to a massive library of technical and specialist publications. Journals, text books, everything. I LOVE it

No perk of any kind could make up for the absolute liberation of working from home.

I've worked in offices for three decades. I hate it. I believe now it was slowly killing me.

Wfh has been life changing. My well-being has improved by several orders of magnitude.

Transformative on epic scale. I feel so lucky.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/02/2022 20:24

Baker90 · 08/02/2022 20:36

Lots of natural light, massive windows! And the heating!!

Rummikub · 08/02/2022 20:36

Bloody hell I want to work in these places!

We have to provide our own tea coffee milk. We get a kettle and fridge.

whoopstheregoesmyshouldet · 08/02/2022 20:39

None that make it better than home!
Although lovey colleagues who bake goodies. I miss them

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 08/02/2022 20:45

In the building I work in we get
Free tea / coffee
Milk and yoghurt delivered by the milkman
Free soft drinks
Treat box in staff room with crisps, chocolate, popcorn, biscuits and sweets.
A toiletries station in the bathroom with deodorant, body spray, mouthwash, hand cream, body lotion, tampons, dry shampoo and hairspray.
Plus random pizza days

ImInStealthMode · 08/02/2022 20:45

We're right beside the airport and we can park at work when we go on holiday.

We have an enormous and almost entirely secret blackberry patch on the site, out of reach of traffic fumes and errant dogs to wee on them. Only us and the office upstairs know about it and we gather masses and masses of them.

Not for me as I'm not a big cake eater, but we have 3 very keen bakers in the office so there's always adequate cake supplies.

LadyCatStark · 08/02/2022 20:46

When we had offices that we could actually go into, I just appreciated the use of a toilet and kettle 🙈.

daisychain01 · 08/02/2022 20:49

Public sector so zero perks by the tax payer, or we'd have you lot giving us shit Grin

Mind you having wfh for nearly 2 years, being able to go into the office and use the printer to print out some training materials rather than DH printing using our home printer felt really satisfying.

I have just thought of a perk - the on-site gym, spin classes are back finally after months of them being cancelled.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 08/02/2022 20:50

Years ago I used to temp in a office and we’d get free lunch at a lovely sandwich shop the sandwiches were amazing or maybe they tasted great because they were free , Free soft drinks too. Thx Christmas party was free also free bar etc. I’ve worked for a company that has a bar on site which was nice on occasion.
Worst place was no hot water so washing your hands in winter was fun. The heating broke for months so gave us a crappy heater and no windows in office.

RG2468 · 08/02/2022 20:51

My old place provided a Nespresso coffee machine. Just no pods 😂
