Office perks you love?

I've always worked in genuinely shit offices - leaky air con, no natural light etc.

Then today I visited the new site I'm being moved to and it's amazing - there is a free hot chocolate station, free breakfast, free electric scooter hire and it's own roof terrace. I'm quite excited for it all.

So what are your best office perks?

Nursery Smile

Firefliess · 08/02/2022 20:55

I worked in shitty offices for 15 years then moved to a brand new one. In hot weather the best thing was definitely having Aircon. In the winter, probably the coffee machine.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 08/02/2022 20:56

Freshly brewed, free coffee all day every day. Free tea and hot chocolate too.
Free biscuits during the week and treats on a Friday. We 'deliveroo' lunch for everyone on the last Friday of the month too.
Amazing onsite showers with products all provided. Bike hire.

Unreal internet connection. Never been down or even slow since I joined.

I actually love my office. It's such a nice place to work BUT it's just so far away from my bed and I can't work in my PJs there.

CirreltheSquirrel · 08/02/2022 21:03

We have a bean to cup coffee machine and free fruit. But the best thing is that I have my own office with a window that opens and a door that shuts.

MrsWinters · 08/02/2022 21:09

Working from home. I’m never going into an office again

MarshaBradyo · 08/02/2022 21:09

We used to get free breakfast - loads of stuff

Amazing hot chocolate machine

Incredible views of the Thames on the river back

Drinks and snacks each Friday

Cake

Trouble is most of perks could make you quite chubby if you were not careful so I only really went for it when pg otherwise it was the gym instead

UkuleleRose · 08/02/2022 21:13

My favorite office perk was a pair of steel-toed boots the company bought when I once visited a warehouse for half an hour. They're wonderful for hiking and snow!

JuergenSchwarzwald · 08/02/2022 21:14

@Crocky

We’ve got a kettle?
I've worked places where we didn't even have that. Vending machines with nasty coffee at 20p a cup!

Current place provides free coffee and tea and fresh fruit though. And has kettles so you can make your own, as well as a coffee machine.

MrsSugar · 08/02/2022 21:16

Having worked in a place with no windows for years I now work in an office with lovely big windows !

I also like that we have lamps in the office cuz the strip lights r too harsh

Don’t get anything off our employer but we do randomly take in treats which everyone shares happily

mumda · 08/02/2022 21:19

I've never wanted to work in an office With other people but I think I might cope with free pizza and hot chocolate.

OohThatCat · 08/02/2022 21:24

The fact I’m usually the only person in it is a great one for me, I can play 80s music at loud volume all day long Grin

Also big snacks / hot drinks wall and cold drinks fridge, both of which I stock so I pick the snacks and fancy cold drinks / tea I love best. We also have our own online Yoga teacher, she may have come into the office in the before times.

Crackercrazy · 08/02/2022 21:27

Free tea and coffee, the occasional biscuit, but that’s about it. Very envious of all these free breakfasts and lunches!

Crackercrazy · 08/02/2022 21:28

Oh, I do sit next to an opening window which is nice I suppose!

Diversion · 08/02/2022 21:37

I have my own desk! I haven't had my own desk which was not shared for over 13 years. I also have my own fan which is much appreciated during hot flushes as the office is very warm. We also get free tea and coffee, I am more than happy, simple things!!

Mauhhq · 08/02/2022 21:40

Free lunch cooked by on-site chef, free fruit and coffee. We have hybrid working, however I would rather wfh than going into the office for free lunch, the time and cost of commute just isn’t worth it.

Thighdentitycrisis · 08/02/2022 21:41

Heating. I’ll be back in the office as much as possible

whattodo2019 · 08/02/2022 21:43

Years ago it was-
Coca-cola fridge
Free fruit basket
Free chocolate vending machine

Nowadays -
Free (school) lunches
Lovely coffee on tap
Free parking
Free exercise classes

Vapeyvapevape · 08/02/2022 21:47

We get free fruit, free parking, free coffee, hot chocolate, we also have private screened work stations if you want a bit of peace and sound proof kiosks if you need to make private phone calls. And we are given the days between Christmas and new year off , paid without it coming out of our annual leave allowance.

8dayweek · 08/02/2022 21:58

You know it's a bad day when you can't think of one single perk Grin

Erm... we got a brief treat gifted by a local business in the first lockdown.

We were down at least 40% of staff as vulnerable staff were all sent home without any IT (nor any idea if IT could or would be sourced) and our workload went up over 100%... then one of the staff at home (who incidentally did have IT, just no inclination to actually muck in) complained and said it wasn't fair... so yeah...

Happyhappyday · 08/02/2022 21:59

Huge flexibility. I’m allowed to start late/leave early to do outdoor activities (like skiing/kayaking). No one bats an eye if you leave every day at 3 to pick your kids up. No expectation to make up hours for any of it as long as you get your work done. Said I wanted to work from abroad for a month to visit family and my boss said great, have fun!

Oh and outdoor industry so get 40-75% pretty much any outdoor product under the sun + free rentals, & product related trips to demo things (ie, skis, tents etc). In my last job we got things that had been warrantied by customers.

NowEvenBetter · 08/02/2022 22:01

Permanent WFH, gifts twice a year (worth about £100), bonuses, extra paid days off.

I’d rather have money, or time to live my actual life, than free food in an office.

Amisillyornot · 08/02/2022 22:03

Unlimited tea and coffee/juice
Xmas dinner paid for

Jojibear · 08/02/2022 22:08

Free parking
Private chef and subsidised lunches
Free onsite private gym
Lovely walks all around for lunches and places to sit outside when sunny
Lots of big windows and natural light
Free coffee/tea/hot chocs/pastries etc. And a huge Italian coffee maker like you get in proper coffee shops so I can make frothy hot choc Smile

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/02/2022 22:08

Free roll of sellotape at Christmas, but you had to sneak it out in your bag. No

Jojibear · 08/02/2022 22:09

Oh and a free personal trainer who you can book to see in working hours! (I clearly don't or I'd have remembered)
