Please can I have some help...

I am going to fill a jar up with some quotes, advice, tips, life hacks, confidence boosters (you name it!) for my teenage children. My daughter has asked for one and I'd like to do it for all my children (might even do one for myself!). I've seen some excellent posts on here about advice and things that were said to you in your childhood/teenage years that were positive for you and stuck with you through life so please please please could I ask for you to share the best bits of advice or quotes from people which have helped you navigate through life. Thank you!

What's for you will not go past you.

Your best is always good enough

There isn't only one way to be

If someone involves you in a game of (metaphorical) tug of war, drop the rope

Ask yourself whether the thing that's eating you will be a problem in five minutes/hours/days

Think about how you can help future you

Zodlebud · 08/02/2022 18:47

Worry about only those things you have control over.

'Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody else is looking'.

And, in the words of Granny Weatherwax, when it comes to morality/ethics:

"There's no grays, only white that's got grubby."

Riapia · 08/02/2022 18:50

If freedom means anything at all it means being able to tell people things that they do not wish to hear.

Whatwillbetheendofus · 08/02/2022 18:55

If you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing.

F.e.a.r - future events aren't real, don't fret about things which may not even happen.

YellowLemonshade · 08/02/2022 18:56

When things are bad: "This too, will pass"

... and don't bother arguing with stupid people Wink

It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end.

Chocoqueen · 08/02/2022 19:01

If it won't matter in 5 years it doesn't matter now.

Take time to look after your wellness, or you'll be forced to take time for your illness.

The sun is always there, just sometimes covered by clouds.

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 08/02/2022 19:05

The ones I tell my daughter are:

Being right is not always right

being jealous of someone beautiful will not make you any more attractive

Just as people look different on the outside, we are all different on the inside. Not everyone will have the same moral compass as you

WaningMoon · 08/02/2022 19:06

Afflt

Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody else is looking

That is an absolute corker !

ceaddas · 08/02/2022 19:07

Never make someone your priority if they only consider you an option.

GreenLunchBox · 08/02/2022 19:10

@refreshingseahorse

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" This one is particularly useful in the workplace.
Hahaha, agree! Or the Tory government
GreenLunchBox · 08/02/2022 19:11

@LoseLooseLucy now I'm older I'm nodding away to those words!

Luckyelephant1 · 08/02/2022 19:14

In terms of relationships-

Don't make someone a priority when for them you are only an option

rainbowdancegirl · 08/02/2022 19:19

Don't sweat the small stuff

Ilovecreepycrawlies · 08/02/2022 19:21

Don't take shit from anyone.

Moonface123 · 08/02/2022 20:21

"No" is a complete sentence. Learn to say No without explaining yourself.

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/02/2022 21:06

Don’t take criticism from someone you’d never ask for advice.

MrsSugar · 08/02/2022 21:13

Ur best is good enough but don’t forget everyday ur best is different. Doing the best you can doesn’t mean working urself to the bone.

Ur a long time Deid so do what makes you happy

Don’t worry so much. Ur suffering things twice if you do.

But my personal favourite….

Focus on the shit that’s on the shovel right now not the mountain u still have to clear ‘

BalloonSlayer · 08/02/2022 21:17

"Do something today that your future self will thank you for."

And:

I got this one from here: "Time passes anyway." It relates to when you think something like, urgh I don't know if I want to do that postgraduate course, it's another 2 years of study ... but before you know it 2 years have passed anyway and if you had done the course you'd have had the qualification by now.

TwoBlondes · 08/02/2022 21:23

From my last boss: you don't have to live the same life as everyone else. So I haven't! And he was right

Anne8850 · 08/02/2022 21:36

Never take criticism from someone you wouldn't take advice from
