Glad you have a choice silkie I think even an illusory feeling of control is empowering and good for your mental health. Whilst friends might be helpful, are there other sources you could turn to for more info about the options? A friend found a local ‘young breast cancer’ group really helpful (she counted as young as just under 40 when diagnosed). Glad the stats exam went well, stats was my favourite bit of A-level Maths.

Hope the English goes smoothly tomorrow Prok.

We had another teacher test positive last night so I spent today fighting metaphorical fires again.

halfpasteleven · 07/03/2022 22:20

Sending you positive thoughts Silkie. I don't know a lot about it, but there seems a lot to be hopeful about.
Your DD sounds like quite the mathematician! (I always struggled with math) and am envious of the logic common sense people that are good at maths have..

MissConductUS · 07/03/2022 23:03

Seven, good to hear that you had a nice time at Nando's. How old are your kids? I had never heard of Nando's until I got on MN. I just googled them and they do have a few outlets in the Washington DC area, but none in the northeast.

Do you have Chick-fil-A in the UK? We love Chick-fil-A.

mathanxiety · 08/03/2022 04:13

There's a Nandos on the main drag here. I've never been but the DDs love it and they often ask me to buy peri peri sauce.

Silkies I hope you're encouraged by the news and by the fact that you have treatment options.
Glad your DD's exam went smoothly. The last time I finished a math exam early and sat there twiddling my thumbs it was because I hadn't realised there were questions on the back of the paper. Rookie mistake. Luckily not a high stakes exam..

Prok congratulations to your DS on advancing to the next stage, and well done to you for your support.
Is Vortäuschung falscher Spielsachen a phrase meaning 'bait and switch' or is there some other equivalent in English that I can't put my finger on?

Silkierabbit · 08/03/2022 04:52

Thanks everyone. I have lots of info and have asked friends with cancer and on forums so that part is fine. It was a worse result than hospital where expecting, they were expecting a low risk score of 15 or under and I got a high risk score of 44 so not a great result. It was done to try and avoid chemo and the hospital were expecting I would be able to. Though the stats are in line with their model so currently 71% chance of surviving 10 years (57% for 15) and then chemo would add a few percent and hormone therapy adds about 7%. I am late 40s. Few days to think about it.

Just watching Below Deck to take mind off it.

sueelleker · 08/03/2022 07:56

@mathanxiety ; I bought my SIL some Nando's peri-peri salt as a stocking filler at Christmas, and she loves it and uses it on everything.

Nydj · 08/03/2022 09:07

Silkies I am sorry the results were not as positive as they had expected and we had all hoped they would be. You have a lot to think about in deciding on your treatment plan xx

Shoes , the box we are planning to make today will be made in two pieces and I have seen the ones our teacher has made in the past so am really keen to find out how it’s done. These ones have slightly pointy corners and soft edges - hard to describe properly but they look cute when the teacher makes them

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2022 09:30

@mathanxiety
"Vortäuschung falscher Spielsachen" = literally "pretense at false toys" is a wordplay on "Vorspiegelung falscher Tatsachen" = "misrepresentation of facts". They made me sign to fill in for all three office admin persons and the most important one turned up anyway. So I lost a very long weekend (friday to tuesday). Got some work done, though.

Champagneforeveryone · 08/03/2022 11:39

Nando's does seem to have a younger target demographic. I've racked my brains but can't recall that I've ever been (see "target demographic" above Grin)

Another day passes while I still test positive, and while another day of annual leave not going out also passes.

In other news, our house purchase may be back on track. I've really lost the enthusiasm for it if I'm honest, but DH seems keen to continue.

LoveFall · 08/03/2022 17:37

Silkie, I'm with you on Below Deck. It got me through a long, long wait for surgery to remove my ovaries and tubes. Escapism at its best. Are you watching the new Sailing Yacht one (season 3)? We are being spoon fed it and I have only seen the first two.

We have Nandos in Vancouver I think but I have never been. The various Asian options are more tempting. I love a place that has Malaysian food, and we go to a dim sum place that is HUGE and filled with people all talking.

They use the carts still. Our grandchildren have been going there with us since they were babies. They ask for a trip there for birthdays etc. It was great when they were toddlers as the background noise covers up any toddler noise! The kids grew up with chopsticks in their hands.

The families of Chinese descent fill the place literally to overflowing on Sundays. The entire extended family including very aged grandparents. So lovely to see.

I am making myself hungry.

Makiwa · 08/03/2022 17:48

Sorry that your results aren't as good as you'd like Silkie. I'm sure that you'll make the right decision as to which treatment to follow. Last year DD2, who is a red head, made the decision to cut her very long hair and donate it to a charity which makes real hair wigs. Her donation was 30cm so we hope that someone going through treatment was able to feel lovely wearing her hair.

I've spent the afternoon weeding and appreciating the development of the bulbs planted last autumn.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2022 17:53

The net tells me that Nado's is based on Portugese/Mosambician cuisine and is seated in South Africa. No Nando's in Berlin - but I can get Ethiopean and Sudanese food round the corner.

Taking about food: we had a bulgur, broccoli, carrots, potatoes and onion dish of DH's creation for midday. As it is a public holiday in Berlin we were all there.
Oh and temperatures went up to +10°C.

Makiwa · 08/03/2022 18:17

Yes, you're right about Nandos Prok. Mozambique had a large Portuguese population and they migrated into various neighbouring countries bringing with them their cuisine. We had piri-piri chicken on menus in restaurants long before Nandos was created.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/03/2022 19:00

Nando’s I just don’t get the fuss to be honest!

Silkie am sorry you didn’t have the results you wanted.

Had a meeting with speech therapist was shocked by how many children under speech in my area.

I’m fed up in work I’m the boss and need to have a conversation with staff tomorrow highlighting this fact. I hate hate hate confrontation. Staff are going on tangents at the moment and doing as they think and ignoring direct orders.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 08/03/2022 19:28

We sometimes get Nando's when we're in Chicago. We got it once to reminisce, and it was much better than we remembered, and now my kids ask for it whenever we're there. That and Shake Shack.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2022 19:36

Makiwa I looked up the recipe and saved it to my collection. DH grows chilis and prepares his own sauces, so we can have fun with this dish.

Nydj DH has put the seeds down for the 'Grie Soß'. Luckily all 7 herbs can cope with hard water.

MissConductUS · 08/03/2022 19:46

Shake Shack is fab. We have one but it's a bit of a drive, so don't get there often.

It was started by a New York restauranteur named Danny Meyer who owns some of the poshest restaurants in NYC, including my all-time favorite, Union Square Cafe.

SevenSistersStar · 08/03/2022 20:18

@MissConductUS No Chick-fil-As here, I had to look it up. Nando's is a bit more of a proper restaurant in that they bring you your food on proper plates, although you still order at the counter. Teenagers are very into it. I wouldn't go there just me and the husband, although I know some people who really love it.

My father in law came round and fixed the kitchen tap, which had been leaking all over the place and driving my husband to distraction. He didn't seem very happy with the job but it seems to have done the trick as far as I can see.

Nydj · 08/03/2022 20:25

Oh Prok that gives me plenty of time to prepare to come over when the sauce is made - I can bring the potatoes.

Lemons, it took me ages to understand what people on mumsnet meant when they would describe a situation and their reluctance to deal with it due to their hatred of confrontation. It finally clicked that they were talking about what I would call being assertive because confrontation, to me is much more aggressive. The English language is very complicated. Would it perhaps help you to think of it as you being assertive rather than it being a confrontation?

On Nando’s - I have been once and it was ok. We have loads of them in London including one about 10minutes walk from our home.

I made a clay box - but it still needs some work which I hope to do next week before we break up for Easter.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/03/2022 20:41

@Nydj yes that’s a very good way of looking at it.

I now have an idea of what to say and how to tackle it.

HelenaJustina · 08/03/2022 20:50

Hurrah for a plan lemons just the right attitude for International Women’s Day. Hope everyone had a good one 💪🏻

I’ve made a rather vibrantly green soup using up some normal broccoli, a broccoli stem, long stem broccoli, spring onions, couple of potatoes and green beans. All left over from other recipes which is very satisfying

LoveFall · 08/03/2022 21:14

I have some seeds to grow the peppers for piri piri. At least that's what they were advertised as online.

I make a piri piri rice with brown rice that is popular. Haven't made it for awhile though.

I have a bit of an issue with planting my usual garden on the balcony as we are gone mid May to mid June in England. Maybe grandson or granddaughter will commit to watering (for a price).

It is actually almost time here (maybe it is time) to plant some spring crops like spinach and cilantro. Maybe even kale.

DoctorTwo · 08/03/2022 22:34

I have just watched The Witchfinder on BBC2 and really enjoyed it. A gentle comedy about a woman who is a bit different being cast by her peers as a witch. Would never happen now of course. Daisy Mae Cooper is brilliant, as per.

Silkierabbit · 08/03/2022 22:40

I am watching Below Deck Med Series 6 then I have some Below Deck to watch then Below Deck Sailing Yacht 3 but very good escapism. I miss the days could just book and go anywhere.

Had fish pie again for dinner as love fish pie with some broccolli and a bit of toblerone, just had one slice of toast with marmalade from neighbours for lunch.

DH cleaned the silkie's surroundings and then decided not to put down the like bark I bought and we normally use but to put hay. Rabbit thought this was a great idea as he eats hay and is trying to gate crash into the silkie's pen to eat all the hay on its floor. So I think we will be changing back to the bark before too long. The silkie has been trying to make babies again by sitting on her own eggs. Rabbit has eaten all his birthday cake now.

LoveFall · 08/03/2022 23:11

I have been practicing my rank beginner watercolour painting. This is my third try if the sunset scene out my bedroom I posted below.

Some more tries are necessary but at least it looks similar! Matching the lovely pinky coral of the sky is hard. My dear Mun had talent, I only have ambition.

We are having the other half of the fish pie I made tonight. We will have Moo Shu Pork tomorrow. DH is out with the dog getting the ingredients. Poor poor DH likes my moo shu but he prefers shepherd's pie. Go figure.
