Good luck to silkie

My Amazon packages are "the next stop" but are showing as 20 miles away - isolation has reduced me to stalking the Amazon man on his little map!

Due to my age, the packages contain nothing fun or racy. Joint tablets for DH's knees, Berocca to stop us getting ill and Brita cartridges to stop the water filters increasingly plaintive text messages to replace the cartridge.

MissConductUS · 07/03/2022 13:48

Welcome, @cobblers123, and thanks for sharing your potting news. I usually grow tomatoes in self-watering planters on my deck, but the lazy slattern that I am, I just buy the young plants at the nursery. It's also too early here. Mid-April is when I usually get them. I may do grape tomatoes this year as they did very well last summer.

Champagne, I've just had a google for Berocca. It seems an utter waste of money like a brilliant placebo tonic.

It is quite warm again today, but I'm sure winter isn't over.

Probably entirely accurate miss though rather good for hangovers However anything that gives DH the illusion he is healthy is worth the outlay in my book Grin

In a bid to save money (a whole £2) I ordered Amazon Basics filter cartridges. It turns out our filter is a swanky "Perfect Fit" job and these are about 2mm too big Hmm

Well done to your DS, Prok and also to your DCs Helena for enduring their endurance exercises. By the way, wasn’t it you Helena who started the very first one of these threads? They are lovely and calming and I have learned so much from everyone over the last 18 months?!
I have to make a template for my pottery class tomorrow so I will do that this afternoon before I forget altogether.

SevenSistersStar · 07/03/2022 14:36

I have to admit I've got quite into a Berocca recently. I think the reason they feel like they work is that you drink a large amount of water with them. That alone probably helps any hangover or general rubbishy feeling about it being morning.

cobblers123 · 07/03/2022 14:46

Thank you MissConductUS 😃

You will probably have more luck buying them as plants, I am usually a bit hit and miss with seeds.

My geraniums were not viable so they've been lobbed into the compost bin, I'll have to buy new ones after all. 😞

SevenSistersStar · 07/03/2022 14:48

Highlight of the day here will be taking the kids to Nando's for their tea. They are extremely excited.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 07/03/2022 15:27

Pottery class sounds interesting Nydj , I always think i should get some sort of hobby…but the feeling soon passes 😁, what template are you making for your next creation?
Hope you all enjoy Nando’s SevenSistersStar

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/03/2022 15:27

To give you an idea how good I am at growing veg... Last year I bought what I thought was a baby pepper plant, and put it on the deck to grow. I was very confused when a large tomato appeared.

This year I'm going to check the actual plants I pick up instead of just assuming that a plant in the pepper secrion would be a pepper plant.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 07/03/2022 15:32

ZZ my little brother used to say “when you assume, you make an ass of u and me”, then he qualified as a solicitor and it became “assumption is the mother of all f**k ups” Grin
I would say though that you grew something so should be counted as a success in my book.

mathanxiety · 07/03/2022 16:26

I hope cwtch will become the new hygge.

A whole tomato which I planted in the same pot as my old rosemary plant has sprouted, to my astonishment. All of my plants are still indoors and will be for a while, judging by the looks of the weather forecast. We had a lovely Saturday (18C) but it's been all downhill since then, with the wind now firmly from the north and snow accompanying it. We will have wintery weather for the next two weeks at least.

We had fettucine with a creamy tomato sauce for dinner on Sunday and there is plenty left for today. I may buy some fresh spinach to make a salad to go with it.

Thinking of you Silkies.

It’s very exciting, so I hope you are sitting down - the template is for a box Grin. I still haven’t made the template.

I've just ordered a collection of 4 different tomato plants from Suttons seeds. They'll be delivered in May, and are guaranteed blight resistant. Let's hope so.
HelenaJustina · 07/03/2022 16:42

Nydj I can’t take credit I’m afraid! Despite having watched the Throwdown I feel not at all qualified to comment on pottery related matters, it’s a mystery to me!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/03/2022 17:19

shoe He prefers muffins and no decorations Grin

I arrived at the office and the person I was sitting in for was actually there. She "felt like coming in", plus several engineers quietly getting on with things and the student we roped in for the phone (nobody phones anymore) got on with his assignments, too. I could have taken the day off - but no. They got me through "Vortäuschung falscher Spielsachen" Smile

Silkierabbit · 07/03/2022 17:38

Thanks all. Got prosigna result back, 44 which is just into high. 17% risk of stage 4 in 10 years without chemo, reduced by around a third with chemo and another third by 10 years hormone treatment and ovary injections / out. Gave me a choice of 3 regimes all over 3 months - 4 x doc / cy, 12 x weekly pac or 4 xEC/cys? but she said last option has been stopped a lot due to risks to heart so think that one is out. Can cold cap with option 1 but not with weekly pac as insufficient staff. Go on Thursday to sign etc. Not sure which of other two will go for, I asked the risk of permanent hair loss on both and she looked up research study and said 23% option 1 and 10% option 2 and said I will be higher than those as doing hormone treatment as well. Option 1 can cold cap but about 64% success rate. DD said not to worry and everyone these days wears wigs, no one uses their real hair. Grin The doc dose is 300mg in total.

Think DDs mock went well, at least she came home muttering about how exam was 1 hr 45 mins and she could complete it in 45 mins but had to sit through another hour. Silkiecat then got grumpy as DD was talking to me so DD had to go and stroke her and apologise for being unfaithful.

This is it exactly. Most hangover symptoms are made worse by the dehydration that alcohol causes. I noted that one ingredient was caffeine, which is good for headaches.

I recommend a large glass of iced tea instead. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/03/2022 18:48

silkie Well done your DD!
DS writes English tomorrow (sort of a mock, but the grades count - it's English so usually nothing to worry about)

I lost all my hair (and I mean all) and got a beautiful wig - I never had hair that cool. It grew back much stronger and in a different colour. Luckily the "chemo-curls" vanished.

MissConductUS · 07/03/2022 19:05

Silkie, those results could be a lot worse. Do you have a recommendation from the oncologist as to which course of treatment to pursue? Well done to your DD on the mock test.

OP posts:
Silkierabbit · 07/03/2022 19:30

No, she said all 3 have similar success rates. The EC/cy? one she said was higher risk for the heart over the other two and has been largely abandoned due to it so that looked like a no for that. Other two doc/cyc x 4 every 3 weeks or 12 weeks x pax more balanced. She said side effects for doc one are very bad week 1, meh week 2 and OK week 3 whereas pax is meh constantly. Blood tests every 3 weeks on both. No injections on pax. Up to 20 injections I will need to do on dox. Definitely lose all hair on all 3 but option to cold cap on dox not on pax. She said she thought hair loss being permanent risk higher on dox. Said that pax one is the most difficult for them staffing wise and she thought I may find weekly visits harder but not sure that's true. From what others have said online people with heart problems and people who cannot tolerate the doc get put on weekly pax. DD is saying to do one where I lose my hair so that I can be fashionable and wear wigs as no-one uses their own hair these days but I would much prefer my own. DD also helpful said I watched a video on cold capping, the lady died. Then she quickly added not from cold capping just from cancer.

I am trying to canvas opinion and both my closest friends with cancer said they would go for pax, online its more 50-50. I think initially if pushed the oncologist would have gone for doc but when I mentioned my low lymphocytes all the time she seemed to waver more towards Pax and said may need to be on low dose antibiotics all the time.

IWanderedLonely · 07/03/2022 20:54

Silkie I have no knowledge of cancer prognosis and treatment, but the %s look quite low (and Miss sounds positive & I trust her) so I hope I'm not too far off the mark being pleased for you.Cake

LoveFall · 07/03/2022 21:06

@Sunbird24 Thanks for the fish pie recipe suggestion. I like the idea of blue cheese. I think it will go well.

The problem I had yesterday was the various steps. Poach fish in milk. Drain and sieve milk. Cook leeks. Put leeks aside and make sauce (I got lumps which were extremely stubborn). Chop dill and parsley. Put all together. Make topping using an astonishing amount of butter. Then bake for 40 minutes.

It sounds quite simple but I had most of my pots out, various whisks, spoons etc. Never mind the sauce flew everywhere when I finally despaired and got out my stick blender. Bowls and plates to keep things waiting.

I needed two sous chefs. But it was good.

Silkie, your tests results sound better than they could have been. It is good to have them. My sister had breast cancer and only had radiation and tamoxifen. She is doing well 8 years later.

SevenSistersStar · 07/03/2022 21:14

Same here, I don't know much about this stuff but hope you're ok and good luck making the decision.

Nandos was a hit. It's amazing how quickly children can put away a plate of chicken and chips.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 07/03/2022 21:21

silkie it sounds like you have a few choices and excellent sources of both info and experience. And well done to DD.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 07/03/2022 21:34

Good luck with the box nydj though i am intrigued as to how you make a box? Is there a technique for corners?
