How lovely prok, we have lots of swifts here and it was only recently I realised how fortunate we actually are.

DH and I have spent our Friday night in the house, punctuated with the excitement of a LFT apiece. DH's is fading, but I am now positive. Considering I am on annual leave for the next 10 days, the timing is spectacularly poor Hmm

MissConductUS · 04/03/2022 20:21

I didn't recognize swift as a bird name, so I googled it. They are not found in North America, apparently.

Champagne, sorry to hear about your positive test. How are you feeling? What would be involved in remediating the damp from the house you hope to purchase?

By the way, when my boss asked about my retirement plans, there was a distinct note of terror in his voice. Grin

sproutsandparsnips · 04/03/2022 21:29

That's annoying Champagne.
I have just returned from watching DS play rugby. It was very cold. I am cwtched on the sofa now with a blanket......

LoveFall · 04/03/2022 21:34

Champagne, sorry about your test. My employer will convert vacation time to sick leave, thus saving vacation time if you get ill during vacation. It very rarely happens and you need proof but you would have that.

Just getting ready to drag six heavy boxes to the UPS place. Boy have I learned my lesson.

Silkierabbit · 04/03/2022 23:32

Sorry about positive test Champagne and house buying woes. Hope you can reach a deal.

No side effects of Pfizer still so think have escaped as over 48 hours now. Spent day trying to get help for DS but no-one wants to help and staff change every 5 minutes at LA. Then phoned hospital again to try and get prosigna result as they said they would tell me when it arrived. I strongly suspect it is not good as I managed to establish results are in, an appointment with chemo is booked for 3 weeks time and suddenly no-one can give me results. Find out on Monday. Annoying as well as with the another month before they start that will mean cannot go away at Easter or summer holidays. Though I want to know Putin's plans before booking anyway.

Changed the bedding on our bed, still in the fleece, think the whole country will be shifting to fleece once the next gas and electricity bill comes in. At least we got boiler changed last year so much more efficient.

HelenaJustina · 05/03/2022 07:11

Oh champagne what a way to spend your annual leave! Two of our teachers went down with it over half term which is equally sucky. Fingers crossed you test negative on 5/6 and can release.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/03/2022 10:16

Good morning and best wishes to the ill and the result-awaiting.
I have woken up my cacti - inspected them, gave them their first dose of fertilizer and put them in their "starter home".
DH is repotting the Gingkos - they are three years old, so still quite small.
Kitchen is already cleaned and food shop is done, too.

Nydj · 05/03/2022 11:09

Oh Champagne I hope you feel ok and test negative on day five - such awful timing!

Silkies I am frustrated on your behalf that they keep messing with your appointments and won’t tell you your results. Fingers crossed for Monday.

I am pondering the possibility of going for a walk. I have spent over an hour pondering it already.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/03/2022 11:53

Nydj When your imagination is good enough, pondering is as good as a walk. Smile

Champagneforeveryone · 05/03/2022 13:17

Thanks all, currently I have a bad cold but nothing worse. Morally I feel uncomfortable about going out, despite the lifting of restrictions so looks like I'll be at home for the next few days. We do have plenty of very secluded dog walks so that's something at least.

lovefall, my employer does convert AL to sick days but I suspect it won't work in my case. There are no restrictions now and I would actually be at work if I was on duty (just moaning plaintively in the corner Wink)

silkie, sorry that things are so frustrating for you. A lot of my life recently has been spent thwarted by people simply not doing their job when they should be. I can only imagine how it feels when it's as important as your issues.

In mundane news, DDog2 has vomited in DS's DM boot, which DH described as "enterprising" and at least meant we didn't have to mop the floor. Also, DS is cleaning his car. At one point I caught him using a broom to sweep the stones, mud and general detritus into a heap to make way for the hoover. I am in no way car-proud but the state of his car has made even me baulk Hmm

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 05/03/2022 14:17

DH has a van that this morning had a huge sulk and refused to start. We took DD to her club in my car then had to try and find a helpful neighbour with jump leads. That mission failed so short trip to Halfords to purchase our own and it turns out that it’s not the battery. DH and one other neighbour who trundled over to help and be ‘manly’ have concluded that it must be the starter motor. So a trip to the garage on Monday for the van, which will have to be towed there somehow….
There were mutterings before today of selling this van which have today become much louder.

IWanderedLonely · 05/03/2022 15:14

Just got back from a potter into town and back through the park. We're going to an 80th birthday party this evening, I've put on another lb and have no idea what will still fit me.
I ought to go and do some housework but instead am procrastinating here, if I get on Instagram I'll still be here at teatimeBlush

MissConductUS · 05/03/2022 16:06

Champagne, I'm glad you seem to be muddling through covid. Even a mild case can be pretty miserable. They've lifted the indoor mask mandates in NY and cases are way down but still happening.

Shoes, does your DH need the van for work? If not you'd be better off with something smaller anyway as petrol prices will keep going up. I paid $3.91 per gallon this morning, which works out to $1.03 per liter or 78p. That's a lot for here, but a good bit of it is taxes.

I picked up a small loaf of Irish soda bread with currents this morning. What a treat. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/03/2022 16:16

We are still on masks (medical / FFP2 or better - no cloth) for all indoor activities, distance and reduced capacities for events. But the WFH if you can has been dropped.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 05/03/2022 17:55

Miss no not for work but uses it to haul mountain bikes around and when DD was younger she loved to go surfing so was handy for stashing boards etc and getting changed in the back when we were done. We own it though (no finance) and he’s going to join the company car scheme where he works anyway, but now we will shift the van quicker than intended to avoid anything more going wrong Smile
Hope you enjoyed your bready treat

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 05/03/2022 18:42

Oh, and DH can get his beard trimmed again. Grin

Sunbird24 · 05/03/2022 21:17

Today I learned how to play Harry Potter Dobble, which was really funny with a 7 year old. Recommended for any HP fans!!

Lemonsandlemonade · 05/03/2022 23:18

I grew up on Harry Potter but am terrible at dobble.

Today DS and I went to the nearest seaside town to me. It was lovely cold but nice. It’s my calm place .

DS had a super time in the park he loved the swings and worked out if he kicked his leg out he could kick me which he found highly amusing. 😂. Thought that was quite clever for a 9 month old.

Silkierabbit · 05/03/2022 23:42

Glad you had a lovely day with DS Lemons

Hope the party was good Iwandered

Thanks Nydj and Prok I also thought about going out but then slept most of the day. Still its the thought that counts Grin

Had a salad for lunch lettuce, egg, carrot, spring onion, cheese, DH had put ham on it too but I am supposed to be avoiding processed meats so I reallocated it to Silkiecat who was very happy. We got the silkie vitamin D drink I ordered and the rabbit birthday cake I ordered today. DD pointed out its nowhere near rabbits birthday which is true but the cake looked cute and rabbit is lovely and deserves a cake. Had an orange then homemade apple strudel and custard for dinner. Not feeling very hungry atm but that won't do me any harm.

DD had a nice day out with her friend and her boyfriend and came back to show me a little black dress she bought. She goes to the gym a few times a week now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/03/2022 09:29

They have accepted DS's paper, so it is not a fail, next thing is the 'talk'. He has to answer questions on his subject and prepare slides.
He will be accepted into the next stages of exams, too. If not they'd have warned him by now. So - sigh of relief.

We will have chicken with rice today.

MissConductUS · 06/03/2022 10:25

I'm up early, even for me, so thought I'd drop by before getting on the stationary bike.

My good kitchen scissors have a habit of going missing. We have a small bedroom downstairs that DS took over years ago as his cave. It's a bit of a tip, so I decided to tidy it up for him as he's coming home on Friday for spring break. I found two pairs of my good kitchen scissors lying about. Smile

I will probably go to church today. It's supposed to get very warm, but rainy, so I don't know what we'll do for dinner since we may not be able to cook outside as we usually do on Sunday.

The Irish soda bread was delicious and is almost gone, but in my defense DH ate a good bit of it and it was a very small loaf.

Walked home from Mass to get my distance in for today. DC1&2 completed their Endurance event successfully yesterday, 40 kilometres. They are exhausted today but proud of their achievement, as am I!

Champagneforeveryone · 06/03/2022 12:15

Congratulations to youngProk, babylemon and youngHelenas , so many achievements Star

DS went to a friends 18th last night, drummed for two hours and was home in bed by 1am. He rather witheringly explained that he had work and didn't want to be too tired when questioned about it. Apparently getting so drunk you are unable to drive home the next morning and require collecting by your parents, having two hours sleep then stumbling through a Sunday lunch shift feeling like death is a ridiculous life choice - this rather sums up my teens and early twenties but was still a rather damning assessment Grin

DH needs a negative LFT tonight in order to be released back into the wild. DS remains resolutely negative while my line is getting darker. I have a Waitrose order arriving shortly, largely comprised of alcohol and painkillers Grin

HelenaJustina · 06/03/2022 15:00

champagne we definitely ‘treated’ our way through it. Especially for the DC, they could choose books on their Kindle, sticker books, craft etc… grandparents sent Amazon vouchers my Mum sent me gin if its also your annual leave, you should make it as pleasant as possible!

Lemonsandlemonade · 06/03/2022 17:58

Well done pork’s DS.

Went out for Sunday lunch which was poor and disappointing
