Aah MissConductUS I feel for you. I would send her a breezy text saying something like, 'Granny says she has a great photo from you, I'd love to see it!' Enjoy your holiday today.

It is the first day of school holidays for DD2 here. She's only 11 so is already diligently tackling her holiday homework. Having the two older DCs I am well aware that this attitude to schooling doesn't last forever.

I've just washed my running trainers. I seem to have accumulated half of the mud from the forest during my last run so had let them dry out before whacking them together to get rid of the worst of it. The forest is the biggest one in our region and literally on our doorstep so we either walk or run there on a very regular basis.

MissConductUS · 21/02/2022 15:04

Makiwa, that was perfect. I've just texted her exactly that. I miss my running days.

I hope DS does the sensible thing and transfers the job offer to the New York office so that he can live with us. I also think it'll be good for his career to be in the office face to face with people on a regular basis. I commuted into the city for almost 20 years and it was okay, and I was doing it five days a week. He's always been sensible with money and he'd have to spend about $2000 per month on a decent flat in Boston, so I think that will be a pretty powerful incentive.

My car failed it's MOT, but hopefully not too drastically. I've got to drop it at the garage on Wednesday night for the full verdict on Thursday morning Confused

Hope you get the desired response miss, it's such a minefield having older DC.

I've just walked DDogs which was a challenging experience that I'm glad is over. DH went to Waitrose to buy eggs and milk. Despite buying these items numerous times in the past, DH has bought both the wrong eggs and milk.

HelenaJustina · 21/02/2022 15:58

Eeeek Champagne I too know the MOT fear. I have to psych myself up to booking it.

I’ve had a sister and her children and a sister-in-law and her children for lunch today, we were 3 adults and 8 children for lunch, DC aged 14yrs-6months. Was really fun and only a little bit chaotic.

LoveFall · 21/02/2022 16:46

ShoesOn, so sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about seeing family. I have cousins a fair distance away and the last time I saw them was at a memorial tea for my parents. I rarely see my siblings too. The pandemic hasn't helped.

I have seen my America cousin only twice in our lives! My Dad's sister married an American and moved there.

We are planning a trip to England in May/June. We have had to cancel the last two due to covid, hoping so much it doesn't kick off again. Our granddaughters are growing up so quickly. So far this one looks like a go. I love visiting England and we are planning a few days in London. DH grew up there so he knows it well.

MissConduct, it is a holiday today here also, called Family Day. I get the picture thing too, but she may have just missed your name by mistake. I would ask.

It snowed a bit here over night, just a dusting that only shows on the roofs. Dog's tummy seems back to normal thankfully. He slept all night.

Silkie, our youngest son belonged to the beige food club until he went traveling on for a gap year before uni. He came back eating everything, saying it was too hard to be fussy

Nydj · 21/02/2022 17:06

Miss I hope your DD send you the photos soon - I agree that Makiwa’s wording was perfect. Fingers crossed that it was just a mistake that she didn’t send them to you.

Lemonsandlemonade · 21/02/2022 18:23

@Silkierabbit so interesting what you said about your DS and Lemons and Limes. My DS loves sour things lemons etc but I ate a lot of sour things in pregnancy.

Hope you get your pictures soon @MissConductUS.

MissConductUS · 21/02/2022 18:26

So a bit of good news here. The car dealer has called to inform us that they've test driven the car and put it up on the lift to examine everything. Nothing is wrong with the car. They did mention that the Pirelli winter tyres we have on the car are famously loud. Even better, there's no charge for the investigation. We do give them all of our service business and have bought four cars there over the years, but it was still a nice thing to do.

Nothing yet on the photos. We shall see.

I'm sorry for your loss Shoes.

Love, I would really like to visit the UK someday. DH used to live in London and we've talked about a trip there when we retire in a few years. With two kids in American universities the holiday budget is pretty slim these days.

I forgot to mention that in my never-ending pursuit of British popular cultures I have just started watching Scott & Bailey. They seem properly salty. Smile

I think of it as homework for my eventual travels. In the first episode, I learned what a mobile top-up card was.

Love I very much doubt that DS will ever be so adventurous as to leave home, but every year or so we get a new addition to the food list.

Still windy an raining here - and of course, it started to rain the moment I stepped out of my work place.
The picture was taken during a rare break from the window by my desk.

LoveFall · 21/02/2022 19:01

Prokup, what a lovely photo.

Despite the snow dusting, it is sunny again and the dog, who is getting on, is lying in the sun. He spends most of the day alternating between sunny patches and "his" chair to cool off.

They are saying very cold this week, wind chill up to -15 (C). Very unseasonable.

I took this picture from our bedroom last week. A pink sunset. You can see the Pacific Ocean and Vancouver Island in the background. I am going to make my second try of a watercolour interpretation of it later. My first try I messed up the tree silhouettes. I keep the building out.

Welcome to this lovely thread, LoveFall.

We hummed and hawed over whether to make our postponed long journey today, as the weather was still pretty extreme and Storm Franklin was raging just where we were headed, but in the end decided to go. It ended up being fine and our 200-mile motorway trip was uneventful and even accompanied by bright sunshine for the last hour or so.

MissC, we loved Scott and Bailey ; it’s very Northern in its humour. Also, I went to school with Scott (Lesley Sharp).

nancybotwinbloom · 21/02/2022 20:06

I ordered a sample of some faux fur for a massive throw for my bed. It's going to be massive. 3m by 150cm and I got a price for someone to sew sone fabric to the underneath to make it soft on the underneath.

nancybotwinbloom · 21/02/2022 20:23

I've just accidentally turned eastenders on and kat and Phil are together! This has totally shocked me!

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 21/02/2022 20:32

Checking in. I would complain about how windy it was in Boston yesterday, but I really wasn't compared to the UK. Just really really cold.

I feel like February is lulling us into a false sense of security. Much of the snow here has melted, which is just weird. I'm sure we'll get a massive nor'easter soon and I'll regret having mentioned anything.

We've had a lot of thawing then refreezing. Here's one of my (usually) favourite dog walks.

Roll on summer.

Hi LoveFall - I'm so jealous of you living in Vancouver. I loved it when I visited. I used to live in Seattle, but am now on the east coast in Maine.

We are also planning a UK visit this summer, having cancelled the last two due to Covid. Cannot wait. I miss everyone there so much.

halfpasteleven · 21/02/2022 20:37

What a lovely view to have from your bedroom Lovefall..
Very calming - very suitable for this thread!

I didn't sleep very well last night due to the wind so I'm in bed now and there is just silence. It is utter bliss.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 21/02/2022 20:37

MissC, where are you going in Florida? It'll be nice to defrost for a few days at least...

sproutsandparsnips · 21/02/2022 21:24

Lovely photo Lovefall. I have once visited Vancouver when I was a student. I went on a trip on my way back from Kugluktuk in Nunavut where I spent 4 weeks on my elective working in the clinic there. I really enjoyed my trip but can't quite believe I managed to spend 6 weeks pretty much on my own without the benefit of mobile phones etc!

MissConductUS · 22/02/2022 00:10

ZZ, I'm going to Orlando. I'm flying down Thursday morning and coming back Saturday afternoon. This will be my first time flying since before the pandemic.

Hilda, that's so cool that you went to school with her. She's brilliant in that role.

Sorry for your loss, Shoes Flowers

We're left with only the last dregs of dirty snow here, with piles of grey, streaky snow and odd bits of garbage in big car parks. This is the ugly season before the grass greens up again, though I noticed some snowdrop shoots peeking through the sodden mud in the afternoon.

I spotted some outdoor chair cushions at my local thrift (located near the supermarket I hit on the way home from work, so I nipped in) and bought two for $4, arrived home feeling rather pleased with myself and then counted the chairs on the deck. There are three - DOH! Hoping there will still be one left tomorrow at the thrift. They're nice cushions with stripes on one side and abstract flowers on the other in a pale blue and red colour scheme. My hope is that DD3 will stop taking cushions from the sitting room to the chairs on the deck and then leaving them there when she goes in. This is all months ahead of us of course.

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/02/2022 15:05

Hope you managed to get your cushion Math.

Took Ds swimming. It was very very busy. DS lives swimming as do I but just skin feels so itchy.

Nydj · 22/02/2022 16:09

@mathanxiety, please let us know if you manage to get the extra cushion - they sound really pretty. What exactly is a thrift store? Are they like the UK’s charity shops?

MissConductUS · 22/02/2022 16:48

Nydj, yes, they are run by charities to raise money by selling donated goods. The name simply emphasizes their very low prices for used goods.

We have received a photo of DD in her dress. I think she's been peeved that I couldn't guarantee to pick her up and take her to the event given the time of year and the weather. She wound up taking the train, which is a much longer journey given the changes involved. She has always been a bit strong willed. Smile

Lemons, our kids loved swimming too. They both went to water babies classes.

Beautiful photos.

DD came home from school and said that DS has not fed the silkie she suspects and said she did it as its bowl was empty. Though she said it could have just stuffed itself. DD did put some wood over the silkie's pen whilst we were away so that could be why so I told DH and he has removed it and we also gave the silkie some banana as well. Very unlike DS not to feed his pets, normally they get 3 times what they need but he hates change though the silkie has been quiet and laid an egg this morning so would not be amazed if she just stuffed herself. DH is on silkie monitoring duties. DD seems to have become quite attached.

Just got my hospital appointment moved to video which is much better to get results here. I get prosigna results on 28th and the nurse called me today as I had sent a long list of what was worried about, she was lovely and helpful. Though she said if results come back low recommendation changes anyway to no chemo.

DD was asking about trip away and I mentioned DS ate a new food and she was Shock but she also said sometimes if you just leave new food by him it will disappear and she said he even ate a nut bar. Shock Guess its beige.

DD has joined a gym and I said don't the men hassle you there and she said no I just have lots of men trying to help me. I said exactly. She said no they are just being helpful. Innocence of youth Grin
