Been catching up.

All this talk of French pastries makes me want to go to France. We decided against it this year due to covid really but plan to go back next year.

Watched a Louis Theroux documentary on white supremacy in America and the far right in general. It was so frightening really.

DH put stair gate on living room door as DS races to the stairs now.

DS has nursery visit today but I’m beyond nervous about it. I’m used to taking upset children off parents but now the shoe is on the other foot I’m 😬.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/02/2022 10:39

Drug dogs have just gone into DS's class as part of ongoing drug education.

One of his friends has just been pulled out by the dog for having "a slightly mouldy sandwich" in his bag Grin

MissConductUS · 16/02/2022 14:05

Lemons, it's not unusual for mums to have a bit of separation anxiety. And it sounds like your DS is getting more mobile by the day. I looked for that documentary, is it "Forbidden America"? If so, it's not available here, but I have seen similar. One thing to keep in mind is that people like that are a tiny fraction of the population and are closely watched by agencies like the FBI.

Champagne, did the dog want to eat the sandwich? What news on the house or the survey?

Just off to sunny Scotland, amazing weather forecast though may see pandas in the snow.

Have a lovely trip Silkie! Smile

Bon voyage silkie Smile

miss, we're waiting on a second opinion on the quote we received and will go from there. Truthfully we love the house and are really in too deep to back out now, but I'm a little resentful at possibly having to weigh out so much money (that I don't actually have right now) for an issue not of my causing. Once the second opinion is back we'll see from there and possibly look to the vendors to meet us halfway.

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/02/2022 14:48

@Champagneforeveryone your story about the sandwich made chuckle.

@Silkierabbit have a fantastic trip. Never been to Scotland but would love to. Hope the weather dries up a bit!

@MissConductUS yeah DS doesn’t stop at all. He had a lovely time in nursery he was happy and didn’t cry.

Yeah that’s the programme. It was an eye opener. It was about a new group that has separated themselves from the far right. The one bloke on the documentary ran communications for Buzzfeed which I always thought was a liberal company.

MissConductUS · 16/02/2022 14:52

Champagne, if the fault wasn't obvious when you saw the house and they didn't inform you of it (bit dodgy of them that) it's perfectly reasonable to negotiate a reduction in price. Be prepared to walk away from the deal if they're not reasonable about it. I know you love the house and you are pretty far down the road now, but there are other houses that you'll love too. Now that mortgage rates are rising it's no longer the crazy seller's market it was last year, at least in our area. Stress to the sellers that you just want to pay a fair price, given the defect.

House sellers typically overvalue their house, partly out of greed, but also ignorance. Buyers know the market much better, having seen similar houses in comparable areas. The last time we sold a house the agent actually visited the houses we were competing with and we adjusted our price accordingly. Most sellers don't do that.

Have a great time silkie !

Lemons what a relief for you that DS had a good day. It’ll get easier every time, especially knowing he’s happy there.

Champagne the poor kid must have been horrified that a) the dogs went after his bag and b) all cos of a mouldy sandwich Grin

The weather is so horrible today the furthest I have been is to the mobile post office van. He calls once a week, since “they” shut our village post office.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/02/2022 16:22

All the best, enjoy yourself Silkie
Pandas enjoy snow.

We have a stormwarning of up to 120 km in flat areas - I think I'll empty the terrasse.

sproutsandparsnips · 16/02/2022 20:45

I have once again removed the bird feeders so they are not blown away. I am in that pleasant post night haze that is knowing I'm not back in tonight and can go to bed soon...l.l

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/02/2022 20:54

School just sent an e-mail: parents can keep their children at home without negative consequences because of the storm warning (we do not have school runs as such, DC are expected to do it alone from year 1 onwards).
I will definietely empty my terrasse of things that might go flying.

DoctorTwo · 16/02/2022 21:50

That's a good precaution Prok. It's blowing a hoolie here in Central Bedfordshire.

mathanxiety · 16/02/2022 22:23

I was in Paris in 1988 too Smile, staying in an apartment on the Rue Dauphine, not far from La Samaritaine. I went shopping there a few times and thought it was beautiful. I didn't do a lot of touristy things - swanned around the cathedrals and out to St Denis, walked for miles, explored little boutiques and second hand shops and ate in many lovely little bistros and cafes. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Makiwa - some day I'll return to Paris

Silkies glad you have good news.
Is there any way you can go after the GP to claim he failed in his duty of care? He was dead wrong in his 'diagnosis' and he made it on the basis of zero evidence, no blood tests, no exam, zilch. I think he committed professional negligence and that can be proved by the complete lack of tests ordered or a physical exam, and by the fact that you did in fact have something wrong.
Hope you'll have a lovely time in Scotland.

We are expecting rain, sleet, freezing rain, and heavy, wet snow, in that order, from now until some time tomorrow afternoon. Sleet to set in around midnight. I must remember to put my wipers up tonight.

Silkierabbit · 16/02/2022 22:58

Thanks all. We made it to Scottish hotel. Dh now in bar. I am on bed DS is asleep. Barometer says stormy. 7 hour trip and dh hit a fallen tree.

autienotnaughty · 17/02/2022 04:05

Laid in bed wide awake listening to storm. Knowing I have work today so expecting to be very tired.

Champagneforeveryone · 17/02/2022 04:14

He's not the only one tonight silkie, hope not too much damage?

My DM (currently referred to as The Intrepid One) is coming for the weekend. Her journey includes a minimum of three trains and takes at least 7 hours. This is solely due to her absolute refusal to drive further than Waitrose which actually is probably for the best

Any mention of the approaching storm and weather warnings are met with a small snort. She appears to be channelling the bloody mindedness that she employed all through lockdown, and has decided that a little bit of a breeze will not deter her.

Quite what time she will actually arrive remains to be seen Confused

Silkierabbit · 17/02/2022 05:07

Hope your DM gets there ok Champagne

DH said car is fine, it was more the biscuits and volvic bottles on the backseat that suffered but dh herocially ate a pack of biscuits and hotel room has 4 packs of shortbread in.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2022 05:08

I just woke up early with a low level migraine and to hail, wind and rain.
Drinking coffee now in the dark.

Silkierabbit · 17/02/2022 05:12

Hope your migraine gets better soon Prok. I woke up and there is fine stormy weather here, it was quite scenic last night in Scotland with hills, pretty villages, water logged roads and a fallen tree.

HelenaJustina · 17/02/2022 06:14

Think today will be okay weather wise but I’m a bit worried about us all getting to/from work and school tomorrow when the weather will come through in daylight hours. We came across a motorcyclist blown off their bike yesterday. The eldest two have a mile walk from the bus stop to school.

sueelleker · 17/02/2022 09:10

Bright and very breezy here. I hope the wind dies down before Saturday-we're scattering my husband's ashes at a natural burial ground; I don't know what they'll do if it's too windy!

Makiwa · 17/02/2022 09:56

sueelleker the secret to avoiding rain in Paris is to always carry an umbrella with you. The day that you don't have it will be the day it rains. Your DH's quantity of clothes is very impressive. Was he a very stylish man? I hope the wind holds off for you tomorrow Flowers.

Prok a monkey wrench = clé anglaise in French so the English surely must be responsible for its invention. Are you feeling a little better now?

Great Covid statistics chez Helena Smile.

DH and I were both Harry Enfield fans when we lived un the UK IWanderedLonely.

Hilder Paris will always be here waiting for you. Ouch for your DH's teeth.

What a thoughtful family halfpasteleven.

Thank goodness for cookies shoes. Miss they are quite popular in France albeit quite a recent choice for children's 'goûter' (their after school snack). More elaborate pastries are bought mainly for special occasions or the weekend when having guests over at goûter time.

Silkie that's great that you got the swimming slots. I hope that the exercise helps with your arm. Your trip sounds quite eventful and eating biscuits is obviously the only thing to do as a result.

Makiwa · 17/02/2022 10:11

Sorry for the continued essay Shock.

Sairgates are a wonderful invention Lemons. Gives such peace of mind. Great that your DS was happy at nursery.

Drug sandwich is really funny Champagne. Hope that the initial shock of the survey has worn off and the second opinion proves fruitful. Looking forward to the update on your DM's travels Smile.

Sprouts I hope that you had a good night's sleep and autienotnaughty managed to drift off eventually.

Mathanxiety your weather always sounds so impressive! I hope that you enjoyed a cosy night and don't need to venture out much today.

DC1 paid a visit yesterday with an empty suitcase which we filled with clothes we are happy to pass on to a charity working in Madagascar. She will be flying there next month so our donations will be given directly to those they're intended for. Was lovely to see her.

sueelleker · 17/02/2022 10:27

@Makiwa No, he had a few suits; but most of the stuff is quite casual-loads of tops and jumpers and trousers.
