Hi
Our baby girl is 5 days old and me and my husband love the name Alba. We like that there won’t be 5 in her class, that it’s easy to pronounce and spell- however, when I have said it to people they have said Albie? Or Albert? Or asked me to repeat it… I don’t want to saddle my daughter with a lifetime of it?
Do you think it’s a good name choice ?
Her sister is Willow.

@SirChenjins Yep, she’s Scottish albeit living in England now (her parents are Scottish but very much not nationalists, they just loved the name!). She wears it well Grin

@Namechangeforthis88

There was another thread about this name recently. Might be becoming more popular.
It's the same poster, with an elder daughter Willow. And pretty much the same replies.

It's a cheap electronics brand.

Alba is a lovely name

Albertine is so pretty and goes so well with Willow. And you can call her Alba for short.

Peeeas · 05/02/2022 15:34

I like it, I think because it's the name of the little girl in the time traveller's wife.

Greysofa · 05/02/2022 16:03

I think it’s a lovely name and would be top if my list if we were able to have more

EivissaE · 05/02/2022 19:20

Haven’t read all the comments but I like the name, ever since watching Jane the Virgin where the grandmother is called Alba.
I also know someone with a daughter called Alba, they’re Scottish.

Ladywoodster · 05/02/2022 19:28

Scottish Alba (as in the political party) is a Gaelic word pronounced more like Al-a-buh.
An English person would just say Al-ba, I'm sure.

First thought...cheap stereos and TVs and the first thought we both had when a neighbour named their new baby Alba.

Mayhemmumma · 05/02/2022 20:22

Pretty name

No. Don’t do it.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 05/02/2022 21:35

My first though was the actress Jessica Alba, then the electronics brand.

@Afonavon

There were three Albas in my son’s year. One had Spanish parents, one Scottish, and the other just liked the name.

If you like it, go for it!

There is always a risk that your edgy unusual name is seen by others as edgy and unusual and then there are three with the same name in their class.

Don't pick a name purely because you think it will be unique. My dc all have top 15 names, in primary school only ones of those names. (Senior school with 300 a year I expect others)
