Just that really!

*wouldn’t bother (obvs)

SquirrelG · 03/02/2022 19:34

Whether or not he ate vegetables would be well down the list of faults to take into consideration for me. I really couldn't care less.

TatianaBis · 03/02/2022 19:36

yes that "low fibre diets cause IBS" thing is one of those statements that is so sweeping that the whole of MN is cleaner when it has passed

There are many other causes but that is one, as it can cause constipation on the one hand and loose stools on the other.

Enko · 03/02/2022 19:39

Nope

Food is one of the biggest pleasures in life for me and this would take away so many possibilities.

notprincehamlet · 03/02/2022 19:49

Depends - is he a performative non-veg eater? I couldn't be doing with a broccoli heckler.

Foxglovers · 03/02/2022 19:52

No!

yes it is one but not the ONLY one.

This thread is making me cry with laughter! ‘Broccoli hater’! 😂😂😂

How common is this in other cultures? I can see how it could have taken hold in the UK in previous generations because you wouldn't stand out that much if what you ended up eating was:

Porridge, cereal, toast, eggs, bacon etc for breakfast

Cheese or ham or similar sandwich at midday, no salad, no fruit - maybe a dab of pickle, which doesn't really count as veg - or if you're in a work canteen or caff and have a hot meal, pie and chips, egg and chips, shepherd's pie etc

Bread and jam, cakes, biscuits with tea at the end of the working day

Sunday dinner: roast meat, potatoes in some form, gravy

(Bit trickier if the veg refuser doesn't have potatoes, and that would probably mean a big drop in Vitamin C intake)

Far harder to see how you could avoid vegetables in other traditional cuisines.

This is such an interesting point. My family is Nigerian. Veg avoidance would be extremely difficult with Nigerian food. I’m genuinely not sure what one would be left with. Maybe beans? That’s about it.

@housecoat1968

I married one.
You married a vegetable? Grin
TatianaBis · 03/02/2022 20:04

And I never said it was.

Concestor · 03/02/2022 20:05

I don't understand what they are eating if they won't eat any veg. Just meat and dairy?

Everything else is veg/plants so do they literally only eat meat and dairy?? That's really unhealthy.

Hyperion100 · 03/02/2022 20:07

Is he doing the keto or carnivore diet?

Uncommon. Almost non-existent. In my culture a person who refused to eat veggies would starve.
DrinkingWishingSmokingHoping · 03/02/2022 20:23

@FrugalFrancine

I find it really infantile; like someone saying they still play with Barbies as I said. It doesn't have to affect all aspects of their lives for me to be Hmm Sorry if that's rubbed you up the wrong way Flowers
You’re the one that seems infantile to me, @FrugalFrancine, with your inability or unwillingness to try to understand others. But it takes all sorts, eh!
Susu49 · 03/02/2022 20:28

Yes, because his attitude to veg would be a bigger issue.

Also, there could be medical / sensory issues as to why he doesn't.

Callcat · 03/02/2022 20:29

'Broccoli heckler' 🤣

OP posts:
StrychnineIntheSandwiches · 03/02/2022 20:36

Ah, so he's a gym bro who only eats meat and eggs and says 'vegetables are poisonous'?

One of those caveman diet bores. Probably picked it up from Joe Rogan.

MermaidEyes · 03/02/2022 20:38

@ihaveonecat

On the other hand I could overlook it if he was faithful, excellent in bed, generous and enjoyed housework GrinGrin

Sorry, my husband is already taken 😉 He also does all the cooking.

Aw no, I so gutted Sad. Maybe we can be friends on another thread some day

MermaidEyes · 03/02/2022 20:41

@Snowisfalling33

This thread is bonkers Grin So much judgment! I'd date somebody I was attracted to and would think that their eating habits were none of my business.

It really is! So many bizarre assumptions. I also never realised just how many people are totally obsessed with food.

SpinsForGin · 03/02/2022 20:44

It really is! So many bizarre assumptions. I also never realised just how many people are totally obsessed with food.

These threads always go the same way.
I have been diagnosed with ARFID which is a recognised eating disorder and is really stressful to live with, yet whenever I've tried to explain it on similar threads I just get called childish, ignorant, pathetic etc.

It can be quite upsetting.

FrugalFrancine · 03/02/2022 20:49

From my perspective, the thread started with a simple question and when people answered that no they would not like to date a man who didn't eat any vegetables, there were lots of questions as to why that might be. I explained that, for me, medical reasons aside, it would give me the ick as it reminds me of children refusing to eat their veg. It doesn't help that one man I know who doesn't eat any fruit or veg refers to broccoli as 'little trees' which his wife has to coax him into eating. Is that evil of him? No. Is he subhuman or a bad man simply because of this? No. But would I date him? Still, no.

Even friends if they do an ostentatious "ew veggies are so GROSS", I struggle to take them seriously.
