Where to stay in Wales?

I live in the north of Scotland and have never been to Wales Blush so I'd like to take my family in the Easter holidays (primary school age kids).

I have no idea where to go, can anyone help?

Ideally would like a cottage/holiday rental near a beach but open to hotels or caravans as well.

Anyone have any suggestions of where to stay? Thanks!

I came on to suggest Anglesey! Llandudno and Barmouth are also nice, to name but two.

I live in Wales and have never been to Scotland! We're going on holiday there this summer to rectify this.

The North coast of Wales is full of caravan parks and there's loads to see/do in the north west.

If you want to come south then go for Pembrokeshire - Tenby/narbeth/saundersfoot.

I was going to say Anglesey too.
Beaches are beautiful but if weather is crap then you are a stones throw from the beautiful mountain ranges of Snowdonia, and all the historic castles as well as the more modern tourist attractions such as Zip World and the Big Bounce place.

Portmeirion. Massive beach and they have the Italian village where they filmed The Prisoner (which you won’t remember if you’re not over 60).
Also Anglesey isn’t far away, and many other lovely towns and villages.

Aberdovey is nice and Barmouth . But Tenby is beautiful too .

Anglesey or the Gower (but that will add quite a bit onto your drive). Wales is wonderful!

The Llyn peninsula in the north-west is also beautiful, but not so much to do.

Please don’t book a bloody holiday cottage. Just please don’t. We are losing all our welsh communities, and have rapidly rising levels of homelessness, because of bloody holiday homes. There are six holiday homes within shouting distance of my house, all of them used to house families. I know people who have been evicted because their landlord can get more money on Airbnb.
There are alternatives. Camping, a barn on a farm, etc . There is a big rally on this coming up and there have been several in the past six months. If you like the idea of visiting Wales then please do think of doing it in a way that doesn’t destroy our villages and communities.

Ceredigion is also lovely, New Quay or Aberporth for example. So many great places to stay in Wales.

I've stayed in many a holiday cottage that has been built purposefully to bring tourists IN to the area. Usually on farms where they have converted farm buildings. Therefore bringing a family an income and enabling them to stay in their home area. I realise you are worried about your particular circumstance but there are holiday cottages and then holiday cottages.

Tenby, Mumbles, Cardigan Bay. I like Aberaeron which is much smaller than other places suggested and has a pebble beach but it's my nearest seaside place to go.

We stayed on the Gower peninsula a few years ago. Loads of lovely beaches Rhossli, Three cliffs, Caswell Bay. All gorgeous.

Pembrokeshire has a stunningly beautiful coastline, with some lovely beaches. While Tenby is hugely popular, have a look also at pretty Manorbier, or Broad Haven is very family friendly, or more remote Whitesands Bay. Don’t miss Pembroke Castle.

Thanks for highlighting this, not something I was aware of or would have thought of. I'll definitely look for purpose built holiday parks and caravans as an alternative.

Another vote for Anglesey. We really like the village of Rhosneigr. Lovely beaches and enough there in terms of places to eat that you don’t need to venture far if you don’t want to. And not so far onto the island that it’s a trek to get back to the mainland if you want to explore a bit further afield.

Tenby or Saundersfoot , lots to do for young families. You have Oakwood, Folly Farm and the dinosaur park.
You could stay in Bluestone which is similar to centre parcs.

So many beautiful places in Wales. Here's a few I have loved: Llangollen- stunning area, lots and lots to see and do. Cardigan area - we stayed at Gwalia Falls, lodges overlooking the sea. Also stayed near Poppit Sands, lovely caravan site. Gower and Mumbles area would probably be my favourite as they have a special place in my heart - lots of gorgeous beaches, lovely places to eat, fab walks. Come explore Wales, it's beautiful!
