Marks & Spencers - what do you love?

MacauliflowerCulkin · 02/02/2022 11:43

I usually do the bi-weekly food shop at Morrisons or Tesco with little too ups at Tesco express / co op.

Once every few months I'll treat us to an M&S food shop. I just love their food, it is more expensive, but I find their quality so much better.

I haven't been in such a long time, so I was wondering if anybody had anything to recommend / try?

Non-fussy family of 3 + house bunny with normal eating habits (if there's such a thing)

Basically - just tell me your M&S all time faves / hidden gems!

We do our weekly shop in m and s so everything basically!

As pp said carrot and swede crush and brocolli / cauli cheese is fab

Fresh chicken very reasonable price

Chicken tenders 3 packs for £10 are great for an easy dinner with wraps and salad

Vegan cauliflower popcorn also fab

Sliced cheese for lunches

Breakfast cereals very reasonable price

Apple and cinnamon hot cross buns are amazing

Frozen pain au chocolate to keep in freezer for weekend breakfasts

DearFrutti · 02/02/2022 11:55

Colcannon potato mash, fishcakes, thai chicken soup and the lemon and lime curd yoghurt.

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 02/02/2022 11:55

They also have some good offers on eg recently there was a £15 family meal deal I think you got 2 mains and 4 sides it might still be on. If you choose carefully it can do more than one meal

Another vote for gastropub fish pie

"Best ever" macaroni cheese lovely for an easy dinner with bagged salad on the side

Cheesy garlic bread slices good value and a weekly staple in our house

MacauliflowerCulkin · 02/02/2022 12:09

Thank you everyone!
I've added some bits to the list.

I absolutely love their 'best ever' stuff. The prawn cocktail is amazing. I also love their ready made porridge pots in the chiller.

I worked at Waitrose from 16-19 (now 27) and was always terribly loyal and claimed Waitrose was the best.

I think M&S are better now but haven't been too often since the Ocado switch up.

Will report back and let you know my findings!

Macaroni cheese is such a favourite in our house. Normally have it once a month with a bloody good garlic bread and side salad. Will definitely be getting this, thank you!

Will definitely be buying lots of fresh fruit / veg & fish to make up for the treats. Too many yummy treats in M&S!

Truffle Cauliflower Cheese - can be hard to get
Truffle Cream Cheese
Fully Loaded Chicken Shawarma
Chococcino Muffins
Tuna Loins in oil in a jar.
Gefilte Fish Balls - currently devastated as haven’t been able to get them for weeks
Olive Ciabatta Rolls
Chicken Karaage
Chocolate Orange Mini Rolls (ones in the tubs)
Smooth Houmous with Lemon Oil
Sable or Vittoria Grapes
Rotisserie Chicken in a bag
Coronation Chicken in the flat dish NOT the sandwich filler tub.

I love their fruit and veg quality too.

Noshowlomo · 02/02/2022 12:26

The bubble and squeak cakes … amazing.
The potato salad is just the best, close to my mams homemade.
I love all the vegan range… the no fish cakes are INCREDIBLE
Just everything. Buy everything 💜

Ariela · 02/02/2022 12:59

We like their pistachio biscuits in the green packet, and the lemon and lime jaffa cakes

CrimbleCrumble1 · 02/02/2022 13:19

White chocolate.
Colin the Caterpillar.

MinorWomensWhiplash1 · 02/02/2022 13:39

Pork saltimbocca
Vanilla slices
Mediterranean veg and pesto focaccia
Chocolate tiffin
Sausage rolls

Wensleydale and carrot chutney sandwich is delicious.

wishingchair1 · 02/02/2022 14:29

wensleydale and carrot chutney sandwich is the best. Also as pp said the carrot and swede mash is yummy, proper comfort food.

MotherWol · 02/02/2022 14:33

The 100% natural peanut butter, mini banana pancakes, tomato ‘everything’ sauce, fresh soups. It’s the only place I’ve found fresh mini pancakes (poffertjes/æbelskiver) and gefilte fish. Best beer selection on the high street.

Yourinmyspot · 02/02/2022 14:35

I like the hot chicken tikka masala and chicken jalfrezi curries. I actually had one last night for dinner as I’d treated myself to one on Monday.

Noshowlomo · 02/02/2022 14:52

Yes to the everything sauce @MotherWol it’s just the best!

mbosnz · 02/02/2022 15:07

I have just tried their best ever chocolate eclairs. OMG. I'm not going into M&S without walking out with one of those, ever again. . .

thereisonlyoneofme · 02/02/2022 15:33

Banana bread and almond muffins

Whitney168 · 02/02/2022 15:38

Off the top of my head, my 'love' list from M&S food hall is - all essential foods, obviously ...:

Four nut granola
Cornish Gold butter
Chicken, mushroom and rice soup
Red Leicester cob from bakery
Cheese straws!

I hope they bring back their 'Best Ever Quiche' in the summer - haven't seen it in-store for ages, and it lives up to its name.

Oh, and they do the best 'cheap and cheerful' jam doughnuts by a mile.

Fruit and veg vastly better quality than other supermarket offerings too in my experience. I keep trying to tell myself it's not, ordering Ocado rather than M&S if shopping online, but it's always dire and the M&S stuff always dependable. Found the same shopping in Tesco, Lidl and Aldi too - good thing the Aldi/Lidl stuff cheap, it certainly never lasted long.

Xanadu58 · 02/02/2022 15:40

The all butter stem ginger cookies . Delicious 😋

emuloc · 02/02/2022 16:18

I really rate their fruit and vegetables. I like their orange cordial, and millers brown bread. They do the best frozen battered haddock imo.

doadeer · 02/02/2022 16:21

The yoghurt and raspberry rice cakes are so delicious.

They do a premium ham which is so tasty

Also the triple cooked chips in the freezer section are 👌

Also find their fruit is the best of any supermarket for taste.
