Paying to attend child's party?

arachnidpearl · 01/02/2022 11:15

Would welcome views on this.

My DS has been invited to a child's party on Sunday. It's at an activity place with a climbing wall then food afterwards. Accepted invitation weeks ago, have bought card and gift etc.

We've been sent a message yesterday from birthday child's parent last night which says that all children under 8 must be supervised by an adult each, which is ok with me I don't mind staying (would rather not, but it's not the end of the world) but that in order to stay and supervise we have to buy a full price adults ticket, which costs £25!

Is this usual? It seems a bit of a cheek to me!

Totally unreasonable we have had the same thing happen at a kids party twice but not for such a huge sum. Our son is autistic with medical needs, both times place had no policy to allow a carer in free to ensure sons safety, had to pay or son miss party. Parent should have thought it through before organising. I did a party once where I needed adults to stay for 7 year old children - no charge obvs and laid on afternoon cream tea for them to say thank you.

@RampantIvy

Just select "see all" on the first post by the OP and it will just bring up all of her posts on this thread.
As maybe in 500+ posts it's been resolved .....

@Mumof32017

I actually didn’t realise that, no need to be a cock 🙄
What did you think “see all” meant?!
Chandimum · 03/02/2022 09:34

Play center near us, for non-parties, it's 3.95 per adult for entry.
If it's a booked party then no that's included in what the birthday parents will pay!!
They've clearly not booked it as a party 😏.
Huge liberty IMO
£25 they saw you coming!

This thread will soon disappear due to op outing

They always do

My child had a climbing party when she was under 8 and we were not required to do this. There needed to be 1 adult to supervise 4 children so if you had 8 kids you needed 2 adults to be there. Were not charged to supervise but we did have exclusive use of the venue for the hour, sounds a bit steep to be asked to pay £25.00 and a bit late in the day to be telling people now !.

LittleOwl153 · 03/02/2022 10:11

@arachnidpearl I hope there has not been too much backlash at the school gate or on the playground from this kid. I would imagine most of the kids have dropped out and the birthday kid is gutted. What a mess on his parents have made.

teatime9999 · 03/02/2022 10:15

If this is in fact the case, it's annoying to have to pay that much for the "privilege"
However, poor kid, as probably half the kids won't be coming anymore due to it being a crap situation for parents
I'd suck it up, and go, pay, maybe have a nice chat with some other parents, and then complain to my husband about it afterwards!

PeakyBlender · 03/02/2022 10:33

I doubt anyone will go tbh.

sweetbellyhigh · 03/02/2022 10:48

The venue is mad to think anyone would want to pay that, so are the party parents.

I'm glad you let the host know and we're (almost) honest. You had the excuse of pregnancy but I hope someone was upfront about the cost being absurd.

Queenbee77 · 03/02/2022 14:29

I would pull out. No way am I paying £25 to attend a child birthday party.

It is a little bit of a cock to expect everyone else to read the posts and summarise for you because you can't be bothered to Grin
PeachyPeachTrees · 03/02/2022 16:32

Party parents either messed up or are CF, either way, no one is going to pay £25 to watch their child at a party, whether they can afford it or not.

Party parents either need to cancel and loose deposit and have to arrange something else or pay for all the supervising parents.

Mrtumblemustdie · 03/02/2022 16:53

This sounds very dodgy. Is the family trying to get the other parents to fund the cost of their child's party by stealth? Sounds like it to me. Why would you be paying that much money to sit and do nothing?

You should probably read the OPs updates at 22 pages in........
Hathertonhariden · 03/02/2022 18:53

Some people with experience of these venues have suggested that the £25 is to cover some tuition so that the parents can supervise safely. If this is the case how on earth does that work in the context of the party? Feed kids on arrival while parents are trained, then kids go straight to climbing on a full stomach/sugar high?

Hmm1234 · 03/02/2022 19:14

They’ve basically asked you to pay your share of the party package including food which is cheap of them. They should of taken DC on their own for the day out!

No, they havent. It really is very easy to read all of OP's posts. Just click "see all" on her first one.
WorriedGiraffe · 03/02/2022 22:13

@arachnidpearl just saw this story in a news article on Facebook so you may want to ask for it to be taken down!

FajitaBonita · 03/02/2022 23:44

Hilarious, another post shared by the press.

TopsieGreenwood · 03/02/2022 23:58

I thought this might end up in the news. They like wedding and kid party ones.

annatwink · 05/02/2022 15:14

"You just have to belay - not rocket science"

Thought 'belay' was some kind of sailing term?😆

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/02/2022 19:11

Wonder how many are going tomorrow

Br1256 · 09/02/2022 12:10

Mum has messed up but really feel sorry for the child who is probably not going to have any sort of party now

BobHadBitchTits · 16/02/2022 12:03

What happened in the end?
