Hi all, so I was doing some housework yesterday and while washing up something shot up my thumbnail but I dont think it got wedged, anyways it hurt at the time but i didn't think anything of it, anyways it was throbbing all last night and this morning i have woken up to a very fat finger it's like 2 thumbs have merged and it hurts aswell i can't really do anything with it movement wise! So of course i googled and it has not made me feel any better I'm imagining waking up to tomorrow with a missing thumb that's stuck to dh's head!!😱🙈 also I can't get in at doctors they are full and I can't get to A&E either! Please someone make me feel better and tell me my thumb will be fine🤣

Also sorry for typos my normal hand is indisposed!

It's not appropriate for a GP anyway. Needs minor injuries. Could you post a pic?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 31/01/2022 14:57

This is an emergency as it sounds infected, so your partner needs to come home to look after the kids so you can go to minor injuries or A&E.

MrsJaxTellerPlease · 31/01/2022 14:57

The hot water won't be exacerbating it, but it will make it hurt more temporarily.

You don't want to leave it long enough to become an emergency op!

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 14:59

Sorry for crap pics! Although now I've looked at photos the redness has gone down alot and it doesnt look as bad as what it did maybe I'm just worrying over nothing! I also realised how god awful my hands are sorry guys

I did something similar pre Covid. It just got worse and worse until I was in agony. Took myself to A and E and was given a prescription for antibiotics.

SocialConnection · 31/01/2022 15:03

Tell your husband to get home from work NOW.

Why the hell is he leaving you to beg for help from strangers?

He needs to come back, put the children in the car and drive you to A&E.

You need medical help.

DePfeffoff · 31/01/2022 15:10

Surely there's a minor injuries place somewhere near you if you're in London? Try this - www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/other-services/Minor%20injuries%20unit/LocationSearch/551

Raindancer411 · 31/01/2022 15:13

Have you a local pharmacy, they maybe able to give advice?

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:17

@SocialConnection Oh gosh no hes not leaving me to beg help from strangers no! No not at all! hes working outside london today in someone else's vehicle with someone else driving so it would mean them having to finish work early on top of the fact we dont own a car anyway! It's all a bit shit! My mum wouldnt come down when my youngest was in hospital dying so I know she definitely wont come down to help out and I dont have anyone else to look after children!

Honestly, I deal with skin infections and abscesses in myself and the children on a nearly weekly basis. Just keep going with hot salt water a few times a day.

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:20

I think I'm just gonna have to perservere with salt water and try and get a doctor's app tomorrow

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:22

@MrsJaxTellerPlease that's what I'm going to try and do hopefully it will work as I'm super freaking out now and maybe panicking over nothing 🙈

Do you not have a neighbour who would sit with the kids for a bit? (I'd hate my neighbour not to ask!) then go across the road & shove it under someone's nose?!

Could it have been a knife/skewer?

Personally I'd put her moline in it and a plaster- great for drawing this out & wont be a problem if it's a cut.

JugglingJanuary · 31/01/2022 15:24

Bloody phone!! Germoline, not moline!

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:25

Nearly dying not dying dear god bloody phone

I can't see much change in the photos at all. I wouldn't worry.

You and your husband really need a plan to ensure you can get to A and E if needed in the future though - it's unfair you cannot seek medical advice.

Do you have a minor injuries near you? They are great - there's one in Sir Charles Gardener but there's a few others in London too.

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:29

@JugglingJanuary the doctors dont actually allow anyone in who hasn't got an appointment which is bloody stupid, you have to wait then shout through a crap half broken intercom system to be told if you haven't got an appointment go away!
My neighbours I never speak to and dont know them!

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:33

@RockerTheQuokka I already checked the nearest one 4 miles away! Usually we are fine it just happens to be today of all days when no one is about to sort kids out for at least a few hours anyway!

PattyPan · 31/01/2022 15:42

Can you go to a pharmacy?

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:46

@PattyPan the chemist is over the road but not sure they would be able to do anything but tell me to book in at doctors or go A&E

OP posts:
PattyPan · 31/01/2022 15:49

Pharmacists are able to give advice (which could save time with the GP) and some of them are able to prescribe, so worth a try imo

Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:50

Maybe it's a good thing you cant really tell difference in pics as that must mean swelling has gone down since this morning I cant really tell as I have been staring at it all day so my brain now feels a bit frazzled and confused as to whether its any better🤔

OP posts:
Hanywany · 31/01/2022 15:51

@PattyPan oh I didnt know they were able to prescribe, I might nip over actually and see what they say!

OP posts:
PattyPan · 31/01/2022 15:57

Not all of them can but they can if they are pharmacist independent prescribers, or if it’s something you’ve been prescribed before and it’s an emergency
