This is a crap day for a Jubilee holiday

All schools have a discretionary day's holiday to add to this school year to celebrate the queen's platinum jubilee. DD's school chose today Confused It's cold, raining, windy and generally miserable.

AIBU to wonder why they didn't choose a day in the summer when the kids could have a picnic, go to the park, play outside etc.? Instead, I'm at work as usual while my parents look after her. I'm sure she'll have a lovely time with them but it just feels like a waste of a holiday.

Dd's was the end of November!

Our school was sensible and tagged it on to the start of Christmas holidays. Which meant that we had 10 days before Christmas. Which worked well if you tested positive for covid from the last day of term

But yes random Monday in January does seem a little strange

The day off cannot be added on either side of the May bank holiday as public exams are taking place at this time. The entire summer term is full of public and internal exams as well as many other activities in school thus meaning it had to fall earlier in the year.
