Boring tips and tricks which have made your life easier.

Inspired by the purchase of a flat mop thing from wilkos with removable washable pads, and some method spray and mop bottle. No longer am I wrestling with a dirty looking mop, a kettle and a mop bucket. It took 5 minutes, the house smells like rhubarb (!) and the floor is shiny as.

Any more time-saving, life changing tips for me? I seriously hate mopping so this has made me a lot happier and life's most boring jobs!

@pastypirate

My aim is to be my future self's best friend.

This is honestly the best advice I've read in a long time x

agree!!!! Feel like I have been my future self’s worst enemy in that regard!

"My aim is to be my future self's best friend."

What a brilliant approach. Lovely.

@LoveMae

We need this! How do you do it exactly? Is it an app?

@neverornow we just use the Notes app- just make a note then 'share' with your OH via email/message then both can update/edit

LoveMae we use family wall app. The basic version is free and we have our shopping list on it and another list with the weeks meals planned on and a weekly to do list, it its really helped organise us. You can pay for an upgrade but we haven't needed to.

I sew buttons at each corner of the duvet and sew tape loops in each corner of each duvet cover.
That way, there is none of that exasperating slippage where you end up with an empty cover and the duvet is all bunched up in the middle.
Easier to put the covers on, too.

Just stuck the extension lead for all my bedside charging needs to the side of my bedside table using command strips. Also got 1 plug with 3 USB ports so far fewer plugs and no cables on the floor (robot hoover friendly!). Wish I'd done it years ago.

I've got one of these-you can put and extension socket inside it, and feed the leads through the slots. www.robertdyas.co.uk/bosign-hideaway-cable-organiser-medium-white-natural

I put 3 kitchen bin liners in the bin at once (I have a 40L Brabantia bin) so that when one is full I take it out and there is already another liner below. Means you have to put a new liner in much less frequently.

I read this tip on here many years ago and it has served me well!

Clean while the kettle boils

@GeneLovesJezebel

My kids were taught, if they had water in their water bottle when coming home from school , to pour it on a plant and to choose a different one every day. Cuts down on watering and saves water.
Love this!

Shock

This should be standard on all duvets and covers. Why is this not standard?!

Get thee to Dragons Den woman!!

DilemmaDelilah · 04/04/2022 19:25

Use a whiteboard to remind you of important things you need to remember (phone the vet, get coffee, swimming on Tuesday). Use masking tape and a sharpie to label freezer containers.... Saves defrosting rhubarb instead of pasta sauce....

DilemmaDelilah · 04/04/2022 19:32

Also.... If you have more than one child and HAVE to put name tags on their clothes, (and their names/surname aren't too long) have 2 names on each name tag e.g. Jane Smith John. That way you can fold it to show Jane Smith or Smith John.

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

When being pressed for where you might have been at a particular time by someone, even the police, just tell them you were having a pizza in Woking. Works every time. Fingers crossed! Smile

Never leave a room empty handed. I had under stair shoe storage built in - life changing!

Buy a 9kg washing machine next time. Only 3/4 fill it. Don't peg out instead shake, drape over line, stretch socks as you drape put pairs together. Shirts etc shake hard and hanger and stretch into shape what you can, stretch and flatten collars and stretch button side and other side of shirt Hang on line. Then a quick gather up if it rains or bringing in. smooth and fold sides in and fold and smooth length into 3. Or roll up if suitable. Stack up items in batchs, ie socks, pants, t shirts etc. Shake towels well, Tumble towels for 15 mins only, to keep soft, shake and drape over line. Of course if windy you may have to use 1 peg instead of 2. Best things I bought for husband and myself, his recommendation, buy in sale were Ohsocool breathable tshirts from Mountain Warehouse website much more choice and lovely colours£15sale £30normally. They wash and dry so quick, keeps you warm as underlayer, or sleeping or just on own or with a cardie. Not fashionable but very user friendly. Only iron going out out shirts etc now. Creases drop out from everything else once worn. Ps sit on settee to do your folding etc, gives you a bit of a breather and can watch TV.
