What strange things make you emotional?

I've always been an emotional person, partly due to a neurological problem but I seem to be getting worse in my "old age".

I'm not a very patriotic person and I'm always a little Hmm about excessive patrotism but for some reason patriotic songs from other countries from other countries often reduce me to tears. I think it's because it reminds me how huge and diverse the world is.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=MogVdARCFgY This video in particular reduces me to floods of tears.

What odd things make you cry?

People pulling over to let ambulances pass. Especially when there are multiple lanes of traffic jam and they all find their way onto kerbs, verges etc to let the ambulance through.
OMG, I choked up just reading this!
I bawl my eyes out at little congas of pre-school children, hand in hand wearing bright red/yellow tabards, being shepherded by caring grown ups to queue at the zebra crossing. It's their vulnerability I think. I've had to pull over and sob if they actually cross the road in front of me!

EishetChayil · 30/01/2022 07:58

Working dogs. They're so dedicated.

Also, weirdly, when babies and toddlers put their little hands into a packet or a box of snacks when you hold it out to them. So trusting and hopeful 😭

HPLikecraft · 30/01/2022 09:29

I used to be an infant teacher. Reading some children's books aloud used to choke me up, no idea why. It was never "sad" ones, either.
I'd be nearing the end and struggling to speak and the children would be very confused. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" was one I cried about.

Some children's songs from my childhood make me cry and I can't sing them: Nelly the Elephant, My Grandfather's Clock and others.

SodaJerk · 30/01/2022 09:37

Sometimes I get emotional when a baby or child you don't know smiles back at you or waves - again it's the openness and acceptance of trust and hope they have - theit trust not broken by people as yet.

@RichardMarxisinnocent @Billandben444
I'm glad it's not just me with the traffic pulling over for ambulances!

It makes me think there's hope for humanity and people are all fundamentally caring.

At sports finals when they sing hymns like Abide With Me or Jerusalem.

I'm not religious and don't even liking watching sport so not invested in any way.

CatrinVennastin · 30/01/2022 16:29

@Milomonster I am the same with benches! There’s one on Hampstead Heath dedicated to Finley who” lived for 20 days but forever in our hearts”. I bawl every time I pass it.

CatrinVennastin · 30/01/2022 16:30

@HPLikecraft children’s books are the worst for making me cry. The Lorax has me in floods of tears every time.

cissyandbessy · 30/01/2022 17:20

Yes me too @TheElvesHaveGoneTooFar Used to live near a road where a regular majorette parade happened and used to cry every time! By the time the tiny kids came along was usually a complete mess. So embarrassing 🙄 My kid wasn't even in it! None of my family could understand why. And neither could I tbh! Just makes me feel all full of emotion.

Flash mobs always get me too. Especially if they're set across various countries. The one that especially gets to me is this.

That is brilliant! Brought a tear to my eye too!

Mrsjayy · 30/01/2022 19:27

I had to stop watching those Juruselama videos they caused leaky eyes Blush

Funnily enough, these leave me cold. I feel manipulated and dislike the suggestion that 'only £2 a month' would make any difference to these poor children. As to the animals - if you adopted them all, the cupboard under the stairs would be full and I can't deal with pictures of over-burdened donkeys etc, so I look away 🙄

@Milomonster

Yesterday on the train from London to Glasgow. A group of Eritreans were singing, dancing, and clapping to songs in their own language along with other family members/friends who were on a live video call. They were so happy and uninhibited, and had so much love and joy for each other. I went over to talk to them and they veer heading to a wedding. I loved that they retained their culture and weren’t afraid to show it. It was the UK at its best. One of guys said he hoped he wasn’t disturbing me; I told him it made me feel happy to see them. He said if I needed anything, to call him and he would bring it to me. So much kindness. It made me feel emotional and it highlighted how utterly disconnected we are as people.
That's really beautiful x

Just watched this too. It's amazing. So many men struggling with emotion and that itself was quite moving. Those darling little boys.

Oh I know what you mean about wee hands. My son’s nursery has a Twitter page and they don’t show the children’s faces but lots of photos of their wee hands playing, baking, holding shells and stones etc and it really chokes me up!
