I've always been an emotional person, partly due to a neurological problem but I seem to be getting worse in my "old age".

I'm not a very patriotic person and I'm always a little Hmm about excessive patrotism but for some reason patriotic songs from other countries from other countries often reduce me to tears. I think it's because it reminds me how huge and diverse the world is.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=MogVdARCFgY This video in particular reduces me to floods of tears.

What odd things make you cry?

Also cried at the pantomime this year Hmm

AgentProvocateur · 29/01/2022 21:45

Bagpipes too like the second poster. Only I am Scottish. Particularly a pipe band or a lone piper. And if the lone piper is playing Highland Cathedral, I’m a mess.

Bracketcomma · 29/01/2022 21:45

Rescue dogs/cats finding homes.

MangoLipstick · 29/01/2022 22:02

Watching people perform the Haka. I saw a you tube vid of a wedding where many of the guests performed a surprise Haka for the bride (who is Maori) and its really beautiful, full of emotion. I’m not a soppy person but that gets me every time.

Also seeing vids of little babies/toddlers smiling/laughing. My dc is 2 and I get abit emotional seeing vids of her as a baby, even ones from last year get me going, ok, maybe I am abit of a soppy git after all.

The Star Spangled Banner. I’m not American. It’s just so sincere.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 29/01/2022 23:07

@Overcombe

People pulling over to let ambulances pass. Especially when there are multiple lanes of traffic jam and they all find their way onto kerbs, verges etc to let the ambulance through.
I'm so glad to find I'm not alone in finding this really emotional.

Yesterday on the train from London to Glasgow. A group of Eritreans were singing, dancing, and clapping to songs in their own language along with other family members/friends who were on a live video call. They were so happy and uninhibited, and had so much love and joy for each other. I went over to talk to them and they veer heading to a wedding. I loved that they retained their culture and weren’t afraid to show it. It was the UK at its best. One of guys said he hoped he wasn’t disturbing me; I told him it made me feel happy to see them. He said if I needed anything, to call him and he would bring it to me. So much kindness. It made me feel emotional and it highlighted how utterly disconnected we are as people.

The Sistine chapel

At a shopping center, I never noticed as many people in wheelchairs as I did today; people of all ages. Was it because restrictions have been lifted? Anyway, I gave way to a beautiful lady in a motorized one. She had tubes in her nose. We made eye contact and she smiled and said the most heartfelt thank you. I don’t know why that made me feel emotional.

I love reading dedications on benches. One was dedicated to a boy who was born the year I was but died when when he was 29. I’m mid-40s. That made me cry - to think we came into the world at the same time but he left early. It made me think about time and my life. I shed tears for him.

Oh jeez I'm terrible for this! I cry at DIY SOS, I cry if I see an elderly person bent from arthritis walking along the road, Another Chance by Roger Sanchez makes me cry because of the video of the poor woman. If you haven't seen it please watch it. I try not to cry if I see a lone pensioner walking their beloved dog which they most likely got either when their partner was alive or just after the death to curb the loneliness. I feel like crying when I see mothers struggling in supermarkets, tired workers trying to get through their shifts. I cry when choirs sing too - particularly the Salvation Army. I cry when distressed and hot babies in prams are ignored as their parents shop. I get emotional when I see my eldest drive off in his own car to go to his job as in my head he's still a chubby-cheeked toddler who loves Bob the Builder. I get emotional about Riverdance - what's all that about? I also get emotional if I see solitary birds or animals looking lonely. I get emotional when I realise that for some people, the shop assistant or postie may be the only person that they talk to all day and how meaningful that seemingly meaningless exchange can be. I feel emotional about people stuck in an era or feeling as if they don't belong in the current one. I get emotional about mostly everything because I see and feel too much. I get emotional about it all and I can't stop it.

TwoBlondes · 29/01/2022 23:56

Nature, beautiful views, sunshine...unfortunately I live somewhere very rural so I spend a lot of time sobbing walking the dog....

Lots of music, flashmobs, hakas

War graves

I cannot watch any videos of my dad, thirty years after he died. Even typing that has made me cry Blush

Hotelhelp · 30/01/2022 00:03

The bagpipes definitely (Scottish)
The bells at Hogmanay
Fireworks

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 30/01/2022 00:09

Children singing make me cry. In my first year of teaching I cried at a child singing Happy birthday to his friend in a silent, big hall with his angelic voice. I felt ridiculous at the time but it’s happened plenty of times since.

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 30/01/2022 00:11

The theme tune to the London marathon

Ronacorona · 30/01/2022 00:22

Monty Don when he told us that Nigel had passed away, it was so emotional listening to him.

Scotland fans singing O Flower of Scotland at the rugby.

@ttpco

See old people struggling to walk and their on their own. I was once In work at a Gp surgery and a regular came in black and blue after a fall. She had a walking frame with the seat on it. She was really struggling to walk. And I couldn't stop crying. I went to the shop next door to calm myself down and she was in there and I rang my mum in tears saying I can't let her walk home but my manager is in and she won't let me leave. In the end I thought fuck it offered to walk her home in the middle of a shift (there was 2 other people in) and she sat on her little walking frame seat with her little legs dangling while I was pushing her home. Still upsets me now when I think about it. I still see old people coming into work and it plays on my mind if their lonely or struggling.
This makes me cry! So glad you looked after her. Old people are my kryptonite!

Obviously it’s not strange but thinking about old people being lonely or sitting in the cold because they can’t afford to put the heating on DESTROYS me.

Strange ones…the NHS clap when it first started, puppies and babies being best pals on Instagram (I don’t like babies), other people crying (like, for any/no reason and even if I don’t know them), people being particularly nice on the internet.

Obviously a mumsnet classic was the woman wailing at the Sistine chapel. Still makes me laugh. 😂

StillMedusa · 30/01/2022 00:41

Anything to do with dogs being rescued!

ABitOfAShitShow · 30/01/2022 00:43

Oh - also, a song called Spiritbird by Xavier something or other. It’s nothing to do with the lyrics. I sometimes put it on when I need a good cry. 😂

Downtherefordancing · 30/01/2022 07:37

For me it is Carousels. But they have to be lit up, and gold painted horses …. I don’t just cry at any old carousel - that’d be mad 😊
