Oh ffs - Nan bread - will we be ill?

Had nan breads tonight - best before today. Notice after we've had half that they're meant to be refrigerated - I didn't know that so they have been out on the side.

Also, there were bits of what could have been mould or black seeds/herbs in them - the ingredients didn't mention seeds at all 🙄 but the pic on the front of the packet showed black seeds...

But they smelled and tasted fine. Help!! Are we likely to be ill?

They’ll be fine

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2022 18:38

They’ll be fine.

You’ll be fine.

I didn't know you're meant to refrigerate it either and never have. I'd say you'll be fine.

RunningFromInsanity · 28/01/2022 18:39

You’ll be fine and naan bread has little black seeds

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2022 18:39

I’ve never refrigerated naan.

Yummmg · 28/01/2022 18:40

You'll be fine

Hollyhead · 28/01/2022 18:40

They will be fine, the black bits will be black onion seeds. Honestly with something like bread the taste would put you off if it was off.

Ostryga · 28/01/2022 18:40

It’s bread Confused the seeds will be nigella seeds.

You’ll be fine. I don’t know of any fatal afflictions from eating bread, even if it’s mouldy.

Badnightguaranteed · 28/01/2022 18:42

Naan breads aren’t refrigerated on supermarket shelves usually.

DappledThings · 28/01/2022 18:43

Unless bread was a typo for raw chicken you'll be fine

AnneShirleysNewDress · 28/01/2022 18:43

The seeds are likely nigella seeds. You'll survive.

miltonj · 28/01/2022 18:44

You'll be fine! Even if it was mould, it wouldn't make you poorly.

urghrtypically · 28/01/2022 18:45

Was is tandoori naan? Seeds are normal plus some naan are cupboard food but sealed differently so they don't go stale.

GrazingSheep · 28/01/2022 18:45

I have unopened naan breads that are 4 months past date
Will be using them tomorrow

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 28/01/2022 18:46

Why aren't the seeds mentioned in the ingredients then? Some look like seeds, some do look more loudly - but smell fine 🙄.

Some nam breads are in the bread aisle but some are in the fridge bit with ready Indian meals - and because these came in an online order I just assumed they were shelf ones...

Not chicken, no!!

Ds has emetophobia and is really worried 😢

Mouldy, not loudly 🙄

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 28/01/2022 18:48

Yes, I said to ds that you can tell when bread is off, but this smelled fine. But he's upset.

StillWeRise · 28/01/2022 18:48

tell him not to worry
the mums have spoken

urghrtypically · 28/01/2022 18:49

The only naan we've had go mouldy was peshwari, really obvious it was off though.

OrangeShark27 · 28/01/2022 18:50

Why did you even tell your DD if she has emetephobia?

It's bread. You will be fine. If you didn't think it was mouldy before you ate it I doubt it was, bread mould is quite obviously mould

tiredanddangerous · 28/01/2022 18:50

I have never put naan bread in the fridge. Why would bread need to be refrigerated??

OrangeShark27 · 28/01/2022 18:50

Your DS I mean

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/01/2022 18:51

Tbh it sounds like you’re stirring up your son’s phobia. Reassure him that the bread will be fine.

cakeambush · 28/01/2022 18:52

It will be absolutely, one hundred percent fine. Mould on bread is blue or green and furry - it looks nothing like the onion seeds that will have been in the bread.
