Oh ffs - Nan bread - will we be ill?

Had nan breads tonight - best before today. Notice after we've had half that they're meant to be refrigerated - I didn't know that so they have been out on the side.

Also, there were bits of what could have been mould or black seeds/herbs in them - the ingredients didn't mention seeds at all 🙄 but the pic on the front of the packet showed black seeds...

But they smelled and tasted fine. Help!! Are we likely to be ill?

@VodselForDinner

Does MN have the world’s allocation of vomit-phobes or something? I’ve never ever come across an emetophobe in real life but it’s a daily recurrence on here.
Well, if you haven't, you're lucky. It means my son stripping off in the kitchen after school each day, then washing all his school gear. It means he can't use any school bills at home to revise, because of school gems. He has had counselling on and of for five years for this. It means him never being able to eat with his hands. It means him not going out to eat, making rules about where we can eat out and what we can do.

You're fucking lucky you haven't experienced this. And maybe, just maybe, people talk about this kind of shit online, anonymously, because of judgemental twats like you, who make it difficult to talk about these things in real life. So thanks for that. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

It's just bread! No problem.

When I worry about something I've eaten I always think about the thread where the OPs husband ate sausages that were a week out of date and had been out of the fridge for like 2 days or something and ended up being ok Grin

@CrazyWantsALife

Wow, how utterly patronising to say an emetaphobe doesn't understand the difference between not liking something and being phobic. I'm petrified of vomiting because I have learnt the word then, at least I know now. Strange I didn't even know the word when I was 5 and became scared 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don't chose it, would do anything to not live this life so scared of it and have tried to help myself & failed. I don't understand people being scared of spiders/holes etc but I never downplay their fear, it's very real to them. OP you'll be fine, I've done the same, but I understand the worry.
This. I am 40 and have been terrified of vomit my whole life. It rules everything I do. I am currently awake worrying that my other half, who had announced he had a kebab on the way home from the pub, will get food poisoning and be sick and working out how many hours it will be until he's in the clear.

That's just one example.

@whiteworldgettingwhiter, that’s awful. In that case, I would question why you’d say such a potentially triggering to him. I have a child with an anxiety disorder and we are acutely aware of our language around them and have been for years. A casual, throwaway, equivalently triggering comment like ‘is that mould?’ would put mine into a tailspin.

whiteworldgettingwhiter · 29/01/2022 09:47

But @BalladOfBarryAndFreda, we were in the middle of our meal and we were all eating the bread. What should I have done? Ignore the mould and let him keep on eating??

Anyway, we are fine today. So he should have learned a good lesson from that.

Last night he calmed down pretty quickly, googled it, found out it should be ok, had a snack.

Naan bread is cooked in a tandoori oven and oven has blackish smudges on it from the oven. The black bits that weren't seeds were probably just small burn marks. Mouldy bread smells and tastes absolutely disgusting, you would have known if it was mouldy.

spellingtest · 30/01/2022 01:02

Glad you are both ok OP.

DropYourSword · 30/01/2022 01:18

Ignore all the posters being rude op.

The only thing that will be wrong with the bread closely after it's expiry date id that it might be stale and not be quite as pleasant to eat.

Even if it was slightly mouldy, eating it will not make you sick.

The fact some naan breads are stored in fridges is likely due to the fact that it's beside the microwave curries - shops are going to make more sales if things that go together are sold together!
