Waitress - would you complain about this?

I'm trying to understand who is wrong here. I visited a popular food chain restaurant yesterday (peri..chicken) with 1DC. Outside the restaurant was a largeish family group. They were hovering around near the menu, blocking the entrance but started moving inside when they saw us trying to get inside. Just inside the entrance was a hand sanitiser dispenser. We do not use it as we bring our own. They were taking turns on it so we went past them and walked up the long narrow passage to where you would usually wait to be seated (always the same spot - been many, many times).

The waitress, instead of offering us a table, bellowed out something to the effect of 'I think that group entered first didn't they so I'm going to seat them first'. At this point, the group is nowhere near the seating queue and still applying hand sanitiser. She called out to them to come along so they quickly finished, walked over and overtook us.
It felt as though she was going out of her way to make a point and make us feel rude. It strongly felt that this may also have been because she was of similar heritage to the group and wanted to make a social justice point but it seemed defensive, really weird and plain wrong in this situation.

This is not meant to be goady. I am just wondering if you would raise it.

@RussiasGreatestLoveMachine

What a shit thread this is. I want my money back.
Oy cheeky. There’s a queue for returns. And yes I was here first, you didn’t see me because I had to nip upstairs to the loo, but I have been reading this thread for ages.

Who would complain about this

Now imagining a form of family fortunes type game show. Grin

Show your displeasure by not going there again and get over it.

I'm going to hide this thread because I am now much more concerned about the insanity on display ON THE THREAD rather than the conduct of the waitress.
When 99% of people are saying you are the one in the wrong... it's mature and frankly stable to concede that you're in the wrong.

There’s not much you can do about the way the waitress dealt with you. There is however a great deal that you can do about your own behaviour, and about modelling positive attitudes for your child.

@CeleriacOfTheNight

What's the relevance of the child? It was a queue for Nando's, not for a lifeboat off the Titanic.
Laughed aloud at this.

It's so easy to politely ask if people are waiting in a queue. The amount of times I've ask "excuse me are you queuing?" That way if someone is waiting they normally respond with "oh no sorry, just waiting..." followed by a step back and allowing me in, or responding "yeh" so then I slot in behind.
I've never had an arsehole reply, and it stops any of this queue barging stress.
In future op if in doubt just ask.
