Waitress - would you complain about this?

I'm trying to understand who is wrong here. I visited a popular food chain restaurant yesterday (peri..chicken) with 1DC. Outside the restaurant was a largeish family group. They were hovering around near the menu, blocking the entrance but started moving inside when they saw us trying to get inside. Just inside the entrance was a hand sanitiser dispenser. We do not use it as we bring our own. They were taking turns on it so we went past them and walked up the long narrow passage to where you would usually wait to be seated (always the same spot - been many, many times).

The waitress, instead of offering us a table, bellowed out something to the effect of 'I think that group entered first didn't they so I'm going to seat them first'. At this point, the group is nowhere near the seating queue and still applying hand sanitiser. She called out to them to come along so they quickly finished, walked over and overtook us.
It felt as though she was going out of her way to make a point and make us feel rude. It strongly felt that this may also have been because she was of similar heritage to the group and wanted to make a social justice point but it seemed defensive, really weird and plain wrong in this situation.

This is not meant to be goady. I am just wondering if you would raise it.

You sound entitled and there is something about your opening post which does not sit well with me, with regards to the comment about the waitress trying to make a social justice point, and similar heritage.

QforCucumber · 28/01/2022 20:00

We’re they all Welsh? Or would that not warrant your outrage?

HomeHomeInTheRange · 28/01/2022 20:34

Cornish is my guess.

Or Irish.

Mo1911 · 28/01/2022 20:54

Wouldn't even think twice about it never mind raise it!! She'd obviously seen them come in before you regardless of who used the sanitizer and who didn't. They were first, you arrived second so everyone was seated in the correct order.

Still can't believe you'd even think of raising it as an issue 😏

Mo1911 · 28/01/2022 21:01

@Soffit

You do get seated quickly there. But if that is the case then I think that she was wrong to make a big issue out of it and drag them away from doing whatever they were doing. It is not a formal restaurant so if you are not at the queue stop then that should be that really.

I wont complain but I think she was wrong in turning it into a big issue.

Thanks for your insights

I think you'll find that the only person turning it into any size of an issue is you.

You did say that you were in a bad mood, I'm really sorry about that but it wasn't the waitresses fault and it's wrong to even contemplate taking it out on her because you got out of the wrong side of the bed.

I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

HadaVerde · 28/01/2022 21:17

You didn’t do anything wrong and I suspect you were bothered because the waitress was being passive aggressive and tried to embarrass you.

The waitress was wrong to do that but I wouldn’t waste energy complaining.

It’s obvious who’s never been to this place.

The doorway/entrance is a muddle as you get w mixture of people going in to sit and eat and people ordering and collecting food to takeaway.

There is a bit where you wait to be seated which is where the OP went. Not unreasonable at all.

givethatbabyaname · 28/01/2022 21:36

You’re miffed because you feel ganged up against by non-white people in “your own” country.

That’s just not right, is it, dear?

Bet you wish they’d all just go back to wherever they came from, eh? Or if they have to be here, at least know their place?

You and your human-shield child have a long way to go. Things ain’t what they used to be.

Justsaying22 · 28/01/2022 21:38

I think if they physically entered before you then you should have stayed behind them whilst they hand sanitized, even if you did not need to hand sanitizer, so I think you have nothing to complain about.

NannyGythaOgg · 28/01/2022 22:51

I wonder hat the response would have been on here if, way after the first post, you had pointed out that you are BME and the group you passed were white?

givethatbabyaname · 28/01/2022 23:17

@NannyGythaOgg

There would be no such post. That kind of shit happens all the time. It’s not worth wasting a MN breath on.

Needtogetoffmyphone · 28/01/2022 23:38

Honestly, I’m reading these posts thinking you must not have any real problems in your life.

BadLad · 29/01/2022 01:48

@CeleriacOfTheNight

What's the relevance of the child? It was a queue for Nando's, not for a lifeboat off the Titanic.

Hmm

Talk about making a mountain out a molehill. Why are you even giving this any thought. So you had to wait a few extra mins to get seated. Big deal. To even consider complaining us ridiculous

alexdgr8 · 29/01/2022 02:44

you pushed in, and sounds like you make a habit of it.
unpleasant, and not a good example to children.
and then to suggest complaining about the waitress ?!
why do you behave like this, can't you try to be more gracious.
it's actually quite pleasant-feeling to behave in a pleasant way,
and oils the wheels of social intercourse.
maybe give it a try sometime, even as a novelty ?

SD1978 · 29/01/2022 03:24

She was right. They entered the premises first- what happened outside is inconsequential. They used the hand sanitizer and clearly intended to eat there, I would have waited for them, even if the small delay was annoying. Waitress was right.

Lookingoutside · 29/01/2022 03:27

‘Doesn't the queue start at the hand sanitiser station’?

No the queue starts at the queue stop. Otherwise it would stretch down the street and there would be a big fuck off no man’s land between the hand sanitizer and the area where you wait to be seated.

OP next time a staff member bellows at you and makes a sarcastic comment, take your money elsewhere.

DropYourSword · 29/01/2022 03:41

Their common heritage seemed like an issue for her because I always go past people blocking the entrance and I am seated without any issue

So, you always push in!?

maddiemookins16mum · 29/01/2022 06:57

@YellowLemonz

Also who would complain about shit like this?!
This 100%
Cas112 · 29/01/2022 07:02

You've asked peoples opinions and they are telling you they think your wrong. If your just going to argue against it don't bother asking in future. Clearly you didn't want peoples opinions, you just wanted people to agree with you and your self importance

Colour me shocked that you often queue jump!

OMG - this is just like that Youtube video where Jordan Peterson gets cornered by a crowd of self-contradicting zombies trying to enlighten him. 'You can't do a reverse because that would be a non issue blah blah!' I sought opinions, no need to bleat/preach on and on at me lol. It takes a lot more than what is on offer here to win me round to an alternative point of view.

I'm going to hide this thread because I am now much more concerned about the insanity on display over the conduct of the waitress.

Almost everyone saying you are being unreasonable

Have some humility

What's the point when you clearly want to still be angry at the waitress

runforyourdog · 29/01/2022 11:12

Such a none event. Why the heck would you complain?
