WFH What do you wear?

I started a new job this week. It's entirely wfh and eve though I was a bit nervous about being in the house all the time I am LOVING it!

My questions is this. I spent lots of time on Teams calls. Should I be dressed (too half 😆) as if I am in the office? No hoodies etc? Do you wear make up etc?

What's the done thing?

I'm in HR too and it's a real range. The men in our team all tend to wear shirts, mostly without ties but one always has a shirt and tie on. One woman in my team wears office wear, another is always in hoodies then there are a few of us somewhere in the middle. I tend to wear smart jogging bottoms or black leggings with a plain coloured jumper or top. Hair brushed and a bit of makeup. Basically comfortable but something I could pop to the shops or pick the children up for school in without changing.

I wear comfortable dresses, always make up and perfume. I need to look "done" as otherwisw I cant focus. I keep earrings, a lipstick, hairbrush, by my desk so i can get zoom ready in seconds. Its important to ke to feel in control. I perform better

I work in an internally facing role and its very casual. Most in hoodies, running gear (if they are running/gym at lunch) No one is smart but we don't have a dress code when we are in the office. I make sure I am clean and my hair is brushed! We always have cameras on for meetings

usually leggings or trackies on my bottom half (no one can see those anyway), today I'm wearing jeans which is unusual but went to an appointment this morning and haven't changed. We've definitely embraced the fleece and hoody top half, the Clients are doing too. The only time I've seen someone make an effort to wear anything like normal office attire was to present to an external conference. I wouldn't wear make up if I was in the office so no change there.

My hair is brushed. I mostly wear simple knit dresses because that is my go to wardrobe choice. Once I hit my 40s I realized makeup was not worth my time or money on a regular basis. Since men don’t need to wear it to work I don’t either.

Where do you get your high waist leggings from? X

It blows my mind that anyone feels they aren't able to work effectively without wearing lipstick.

My camera doesn't work (and I cannot be bothered to fix it!!). So I wear what I would wear to be outside the house.

WFH all day. Con calls all on camera. Hairbrush and lip salve on my desk. Tinted moisturiser applied in the morning. Statement jumper or shirt. Jeans and snuggly socks below waist. There are more comments from colleagues on my nails or study decor than what I’m wearing.

As more people go back to the office I think you should dress to the same standard - whatever that is for your workplace.

For me, that means joggers and warm socks on bottom. Plain jumper on top - I have a selection of fine knit ones that look professional enough. Light neutral make up and hair tidy (either up or down depending on if I can faffed doing it).

I keep a smart poncho handy too (I have a darkish grey one from John Lewis). It can get thrown over the top of more casual tops (I dress down if I don't have planned calls but my WFH Poncho keeps me smart enough.)

To be fair I think it's just individual choice. I feel more in 'work mode' with a bit of lipstick on etc.

Loads of different advice here so thanks all! I'm sure I'll get into the swing of things. My washing pile is much smaller anyway! 🤣

@breakdown19 I swear by Spanx leggings - pricy but omg so worth it. You can buy them from asos, next and John Lewis.

I don't wfh that often for a full day, but when I do as I'm 70:30 customer facing vs work colleagues, I tend to wear jeans (as that's my natural default) + smart jumper/top, hair done nice and token bit of make up as I always look pale and odd on video (to the extent people sometimes ask if I'm feeling OK)
