When did you have your elective C-section?

As in the title, which day did you have your elective c section??

My community midwife told me that they’re usually around week 39 so I assumed a couple of days either side of this. Spoke to a midwife at the hospital and she said they can be any time up until 39+6.

Apparently we won’t hear a date until a couple of weeks before so would like to know when others have had theirs? Obviously it’s not a massive difference either way but I’m quite enjoying the fact I can plan better for this one, I.e when to start mat leave etc and if it’s likely to come a week later then I might push my mat leave back a week.

The closer I get to my due date though the more likely I’ll go into labour spontaneously!

Mine were 38 and 38+1 but I am diabetic and was told they deliver at 38 weeks for this

LadyCleathStuart · 28/01/2022 12:05

38+5 and 39 weeks

ElephantOfRisk · 28/01/2022 12:07

Our hospital only did Electives on Wednesdays. I was 39/4. Technically I should have been the following week as the consultant had said to book in from my due date but the midwife booked me in the wednesday before as I'd had a long labour and EMCS just 13 months earlier and I was scared i'd go into labour and face the same scenario.

During the op the consultant said it was as well I hadn't gone into labour as the scar would never have withstood it. I'd reported pain and a "release" type feeling in the scar area already.

Anyway all was well and a 2nd healthy baby delivered albeit he was only 8lb 3oz so a lot smaller than his brother (9lb 13oz) and smaller than expected. He was still back to back though which was the problem with DS1.

Best of luck OP.

I was scheduled 39+2 for my first one but they called me a few days before and asked "are you available for your section tomorrow morning instead? We've got a much quieter day" so ended up being bang on 39 weeks.

I'm currently 22 weeks with second DC and I've got my date for second section already confirmed and it's exactly 39 weeks

ElephantOfRisk · 28/01/2022 12:12

I'd also add that the elective was very relaxed. We had to arrive for 7am and I was delivered and back up on the ward with visitors by 10am. After DS2 was born, my DH nipped out to pick up DS1 and my mum and bring them in. She was obviously glad to see us all well but was slightly miffed that her day with DS1 was so short.

SquigglePigs · 28/01/2022 12:14

I was 39+3. Due date was a Saturday and c-section was the Tuesday before.

mummyof2boys30 · 28/01/2022 12:14

38+5. He had other ideas and went into labour at 38 weeks. Emergency section in the end

Fallagain · 28/01/2022 12:17

Mine was booked for exactly 39 weeks but my consultant really did not advise a vaginal birth. I did have a VBAC so I avoided the section.

nervousseacreature · 28/01/2022 12:17

39 weeks exactly but was originally booked for 39+2. Appt was changed due to staff availability

FlurkenSchnit · 28/01/2022 12:42

39+2 and it was booked at my 36 week appointment. I was really worried as my last birth had happened at 38+5 ending with severe shoulder dystocia (reason for opting for elcs) and baby was very obviously bigger so at much more risk of getting stuck should I have gone into labour. Luckily he stayed put!

bigbeatmanifesto · 28/01/2022 12:44

39 weeks exactly the 1st time,
39+2 for my 2nd elective.

FourChimneys · 28/01/2022 12:57

36.5 but two babies jostling for space in there.

Travellingraspberry · 28/01/2022 13:02

39+4 which when my first baby arrived at 34 weeks was a bit nerve-wracking! I did ask for slightly earlier but they doing elective section on set days and they would do it before 39 weeks. Thankfully all went OK!

DoucheCanoe · 28/01/2022 13:03

39+5, booked in provisionally at 24 weeks as I'd had an EMCS before.

stillsleeptraining · 28/01/2022 15:12

39+6 and 40+2

I requested the latter to be later and I think they would have even gone for 40+6

chocolateisavegetable · 28/01/2022 16:18

39 weeks. They had originally said at 38 weeks, but then realised that it was a bank holiday!

redandwhite1 · 03/02/2022 10:36

40+2 which I'm not happy about and need to speak to my midwife to see if it can be changed

Pregnant02 · 03/02/2022 11:44

I’m due to have mine at 39 weeks exactly. Booked in from 21 weeks so already have the date.

theDudesmummy · 03/02/2022 11:49

Mine was booked for 38 but I went into labour at 36, so was done that afternoon.

mintich · 03/02/2022 12:31

Dead on 39 weeks with both

Change123today · 03/02/2022 12:40

36+4 weeks with my first (due to medical reasons) With my second I asked to push it closer to my due date (medical reasons as to why I can’t go into labour) so they agreed with 38 weeks but because I then wanted a specific consultant who knew my medical history we pushed it out to 39 weeks as she was on leave. We live very close to the hospital so could get there quickly if labour did start.
Both times we got to pick the date but I guess because I was around 16 weeks pregnant when picking, dates hadn’t quite filled up! If it was closer to due date I can imagine they would give you a date with what was available!

Bonnealle · 03/02/2022 12:50

39 exactly (they like to do it as close to due date as they can). But, I went into labour 5 days before the booking!

Idontwant2 · 03/02/2022 14:35

39+2 and only got told about a week before

HalloHello · 03/02/2022 14:46

In my trust, you won't get an elective section before 39 weeks due to the high risk of breathing problems after delivery. Unless obviously there is a risk to you or baby. We hear around 7-10 days before the date. I had mine 39+4.

BobHadBitchTits · 03/02/2022 14:51

Consultant appointment on October 7th where we were given a date.

Caesarean on November 3rd at exactly 39 weeks.
