When did you have your elective C-section?

As in the title, which day did you have your elective c section??

My community midwife told me that they’re usually around week 39 so I assumed a couple of days either side of this. Spoke to a midwife at the hospital and she said they can be any time up until 39+6.

Apparently we won’t hear a date until a couple of weeks before so would like to know when others have had theirs? Obviously it’s not a massive difference either way but I’m quite enjoying the fact I can plan better for this one, I.e when to start mat leave etc and if it’s likely to come a week later then I might push my mat leave back a week.

The closer I get to my due date though the more likely I’ll go into labour spontaneously!

Mine was 39+3 both times, no issues.

Runkle · 28/01/2022 06:36

39+3. I was 39 weeks on the Monday but apparently they don't do electives on a Monday so I was told it would be the Tues, Weds or Thurs. Requested it after a scan on 5th for various reasons and got my date on 12th (38+2 by then) baby delivered on the 20th. I was told that if I went into spontaneous labour in between then to ring ASAP and I would still be offered the section.

Hospedia · 28/01/2022 08:14

40+6, I didn't want to be induced so had a section instead.

37+4.

38+6 with twins. Booked in about a month earlier because they were breech/transverse and realistically too big to move positions

MrsTimRiggins · 28/01/2022 08:22

39w+5. Low risk pregnancy, baby making no immediate moves to vacate the premises. We could choose any day the week prior to my due date, which was the Sunday, so that gave us 39+1-39+5, and we just liked the date for the one we chose. We chose the date and were booked in at 20 weeks, our consultant’s appointment was immediately after our scan.

romdowa · 28/01/2022 08:23

I had mine dead on 39 weeks and had it booked 6 weeks in advance. I was high risk though

GaslighterDenier · 28/01/2022 08:24

Exactly 39 weeks here too, but only found out a couple of days prior. Think I found out on the Tuesday and CS happened on the Thursday.

MrsGHarrison87 · 28/01/2022 08:26

At 39 weeks exactly with 2 of them, one at 37 weeks as I went into labour but was scheduled for 39 weeks exactly. And first was an emergency 40 weeks 5 days.

middleager · 28/01/2022 08:28

39 weeks and I was having twins!

Brunonono · 28/01/2022 08:31

39+1. I think I had an appointment at around 36 weeks where I got given the date.

FluffMagnet · 28/01/2022 08:38

38+6 and 39+2 for mine. With the latter I had contractions for 36 hours prior, so I spent the day before in triage to see if I needed to become an EMCS instead (emergency in the loosest sense) but they concluded nothing was happening cervix-wise so best to ride out the contractions to my slot the next afternoon if possible. Thankfully the back to back baby turned after 24 hours, so the last 12 hours of it all was mild niggles compared with the vomit-inducing pain every 15 mins before. I tip my hat to all of you who've had VBs!

onetwothreeadventure · 28/01/2022 08:40

I'm booked in for 39 weeks.

My consultant is being really strict about it not being before 39 weeks without a medical reason. Pretty sure I had CS around 38+5 ish on my last pregnancy with the same consultant so was surprised he wouldn't entertain even a day before 39 weeks this time.

MidSizeMillie · 28/01/2022 08:41

Think it was 39+2 for me.

doggydaft · 28/01/2022 08:42

37 weeks exactly, brought forward from 39 as my kidney function was going south.
DS was absolutely fine. I'd been given the original date at 36 weeks but was having weekly blood due to complications in a previous pregnancy.

Salamander91 · 28/01/2022 08:42

Mine were planned for 38 weeks due to me being diabetic. My second wasn't until 38+5 though because it was the first available date.

Wellington17 · 28/01/2022 08:55

Thanks all. Sounds like most are around the 39 week mark… fingers crossed it’ll be the same for me! My last pregnancy ended in EMCS at 41+2 so hopefully this one won’t decide to come early. Labour was a horror so really don’t fancy that again! Hospital have said that if I go into labour early I should be able to have a section as long as I get in quickly enough! Really fancy the idea of just turning up on the day and having a nice relaxed birth this time!

Sounds like a couple of you have been able to request your day so might bring that up with the midwife at my next appt. Worth a try!

I think you should be able to explain that due to previous traumatic birth, you'd rather have it closer to 39 weeks than 40 to reduce risk of going into labour. I'd bring that up with the doctor rather than the mw if possible. Ime doctors are a lot more sympathetic as they have more experience of more complicated births. I also had a tricky birth with dc1 with shoulder dystocia. I was lucky with my own injuries, but dc1 was really unwell. Luckily all fine now, but obviously I was a bit traumatised. I found my doctors a lot more understanding about it than my mws

Sartre · 28/01/2022 10:37

39+1 with the first and 39+2 with the second. They do it as close to week 39 as they can, I turned 39 weeks at the weekend and they don’t do electives over the weekend so they were both born the Monday after.

OldSoho · 28/01/2022 10:48

39+2, which was the earliest they could do (Monday) though I had my choice of dates for that whole week. I just had no strong preference and went for as soon as they could get me in.

I also got my date quite a lot earlier than some PPs - around 17-18 weeks, and before my anomaly scan. I think because there were so many reasons I went for ELCS, and VBAC wasn't an option I was willing to consider.

BrandNewFor2022 · 28/01/2022 10:52

39+2 when I was originally booked in.

Went for my pre-op meeting at the hospital a week before and was told it had been pushed back until 39+4!

Luckily he stayed put until the day.

Clouless · 28/01/2022 10:54

40+1... there were no spaces left the week before...
Naturally, I went into labour on my due date at 40 weeks dead on and ended up with an emergency section that day! 🙃

daisyducky · 28/01/2022 11:49

39 weeks exactly. Was told on the Monday with the section on Saturday

astersugar · 28/01/2022 11:55

I originally booked mine for 41 weeks on the dot as I was open to seeing how labour went. I changed my mind late on due to a change in my circumstances which impacted my mental wellbeing/resilience so I felt I couldn't cope with delivery. My revised date was 39+6. In the end labour began at 38+6 and my baby was delivered at 39 weeks on the dot. It was counted as an emergency caesarean but it wasn't an emergency - it was my choice and they were absolutely lovely about the whole thing, as I felt very guilty for electing to have a CS rather than a VBAC because the only reason for my first CS was my baby's breech position and I felt like I was wasting NHS resources. Don't feel like that, it was silly of me to think that at all.

SniggleSnarf · 28/01/2022 11:59

Mine was 39 weeks

spikesonbuildings · 28/01/2022 12:01

I think it ended up being 40 weeks as they had to put it back a week.
