Shop bought sandwiches

Went out with a colleague to grab lunch today - ended up in Tesco where she got a cheese sandwich - and it kinda baffles me because I don’t understand why you’d spend so much on a shop-bought sandwich you could’ve made at home for cheaper - surely you want something a bit more exciting than what you’d make at home if you’re going pay that much or is it just me?

It's not doing me any harm, it's probably harming the environment though.

Sorry, that was in response to SeasonFinale

I have better things to do too but I'd rather spend 5 minutes a day making a sarnie than spending £5 a day on lunch

Same here. My sandwiches are almost always nicer and fresher too and shop bought is rarely a timesaver unless you are able to directly walk past the shop, the sandwich fridge is close to the entrance, you put no thought into deciding what you want and you don't have to queue to pay.

Trekking out to buy at lunchtime, jostling with everyone else in front of the sandwich fridge, making sure you've got all the correct components of the meal deal so it doesn't end up costing you twice as much, and queuing up to pay and you've basically made a five minute job into about 15, to end up with a worse product at two to three times the cost.

I'm coeliac so rarely have the luxury of buying a sandwich out. There was a lovely place near where I used to work that sold only gluten free sandwiches, they did a great bacon and brie toastie. I'd love to be able to pop in there again - sadly now 3 hours away.

@frenchfancy81

Mumsnet can be a weird place...barely anyone here would ever dream of eating one, apparently, yet soooo many are sold every day. Must only be men and common women that buy them, in that case 😉
It is mostly men to be honest! Petrol station sandwiches for example are marketed at men and the main buyers by a long way. Grocer magazine talks about this stuff a lot 😂

I hate shop bought sandwiches. Margarine 🤮 and cheap fillings.

It's definitely you.

I’ve never really liked shop bought sarnies. Tasteless and full of crap and the bread is so dry.

But then again I’m not a sandwich fan anyway, although I don’t mind an egg one sometimes

Tesco do the best range of vegetarian/vegan sandwiches and salads. I love the Tesco Falafel wrap😋. Preys posh pickle sandwich is another favourite. Some of the shop bought fillings are really nice e.g. different types of bread/wraps, I don’t usually buy the ones I could make easily at home.

Sainsbury's has an amazing bacon, brie and chilli jam sandwich. It used to be a Christmas one but they brought it into their regular range a couple of years ago. I was overjoyed Blush

M&S does a mozzarella, tomato and pesto wrap that I love too.

Generally I make my own sandwich (ham, cheese and coleslaw on Warburton's toastie bread - the lunch of kings) but I'm not above a pre-made one.

I have a real Sainsbury’s Chicken and Bacon wrap problem. Get one every time I go good shopping/top up shop. I sit in my car, listen to a podcast and eat it. They’re not even particularly nice I just can’t help myself Grin

Convenient article today about Greencore, in case you were wondering where your M&S/Sainsbury's sandwiches came from.
IMO there's a noticeable difference with sandwiches made in the same place they are sold such as Pret and Greggs, but still there are all kinds of reasons a person might want to buy even a plain lunch.

I do buy supermarket sandwiches but can’t remember ever getting one with just cheese. When I worked at Age UK we used to put an order in some days from a cafe & they did the most incredible sandwiches. Superb home baked bread, deep filled & beautiful crisp salad pots on the side if you wanted. Sad to say I don’t think it’s there anymore. No bought sandwich has ever beaten those! And they were so reasonably priced too.
