My ds (nearly 10) loved how to train your dragon, wizards of once and Harry potter. Currently into all of the books by David baddiel. Have also got perry Jackson books for him, but he hasn't started them yet. Also likes star wars, and has read the junior novels of the star wars books. How about some Terry pratchett?

Mark Lowry is absolutely brilliant and laugh out loud funny. I’ve attached a list - haven’t read Charlie and me but the rest are a series about a boy in Y6 with a hilarious friend. I read them to my son and it was crying with laughter funny.

Nevermoor Wundersmith Hollowpox by Jessica Townsend
to add: my 10-11 yo absolutely loves them and wanted me to read them to him after he'd read them himself. Together with the Wizards of Once series I think they're the best books for that age I've read in a long time.

From approx 10yrs + our DS was throughly engrossed in action adventure stories:

Thé Alex Rider series, Perry Jackson, the Hunger games, now onto Patrick Ness and John Steinbeck at school.

Adventures on Trains series by M. G. Leonard.

Might be a bit young, but the Charlie changes into a chicken books by Sam Copeland are fun.

The boy at the back of the class by Onjali Rauf

The Vanishing Trick by Jenni Spangler

Murder Most Unladylike series and Wonder

MaizeAmaze · 24/01/2022 13:11

If she enjoys Warrior Cats, try Wings of Fire.
DS is also going through Bear Grylls, and read How to Train your Dragon last year.
But he keeps coming g back to Warrio Cats, and I think has read them all about 3 times!

Mine are currently working their way through Little House on the Prairie and they love them.

Monkeybutt1 · 24/01/2022 13:13

My 9 year old loves Percy Jackson and The last kids on Earth.

My nearly 10 year old has recently devoured the Vashti Hardy Brightstorm books and is currently on the Pages and Co series by Anna James and eagerly awaiting the new Jenny Pearson book at the end of the month.

There are more, lots more. He is always reading. Thankfully his sister (13) is also a bookworm so he has an extensive library to dip into!

He also still likes silly books and "younger" books like Julius Zebra, the Andy Shepherd Boy Who Grew Dragons series or Toto the Ninja Cat. A mixture is great. Anything that keeps them reading in my view!

PossiblyDreaming · 24/01/2022 13:20

My nearly 10yo is currently loving His Dark Materials. He’s also loved the Percy Jackson books and Magisterium books.

ijustneedasleep · 24/01/2022 13:21

A series of unfortunate events.
Incredible book series

DeathMetalMum · 24/01/2022 13:24

Jessica Townsend Morrigan Crow series here too, also really enjoyed Agatha Oddly by Leena Jones.

Helocariad · 24/01/2022 13:28

Agatha Oddly looks good, thanks for suggesting :-)

Yika · 24/01/2022 13:29

My DD also loves a Series of Unfortunate Events.
Upside Down Magic and Malory Towers have been massive hits too.

Chickpea22 · 24/01/2022 13:32

Agatha oddly is really good. I am reading it to my 10yr old at the moment and get irritated when she reads ahead because I miss out Grin.

MadeinBelfast · 24/01/2022 13:35

Frostheart, Artemis Fowl, Agatha Oddly, the Seth Seppi Mysteries by Nicki Thornton and The Storm Keepers Island have all gone down well here.

Lavendersquare · 24/01/2022 13:42

DD9 had this for Christmas and couldn't put it down, she loved it.
