Screaming when you cut a birthday cake

I remember me and my friends doing this as kids, but DH doesn't think it's a thing. Was it just my friends or does anyone else remember doing this?

I'd forgotten I started this thread. My DH made me think I might have imagined the whole thing.

For background, I'm from NW London, didn't go to boarding school and remember doing it in 90s, when I would have been at secondary school. I also remember it was "to get the devil out". But no idea why the devil would be in a birthday cake.

I'm not passing it on to my DC as it clearly is very niche and I've never heard it where I live now.

Glad you're not passing it on 🤣

‘Get the devil out’ Grin I grew up in London in the 80s and 90s and have never encountered this

What an odd thing to do! Hmm

The only thing we did was to make a wish with your eyes closed and then blow out the candles. Followed by siblings and cousins doing the same.
🤢
Crikey that cake must have been Spit Central!

Just the thought of this makes me feel stressed. I am a very relaxed mother in most ways but I am quite strict about strict about screaming, I can’t stand it. Can never understand why parents let their kids scream (I don’t mean crying of course). At the park recently two girls were screaming full blood curdling screams every time they traversed the zip wire. We left soon after they started up but friend told me later that they carried on for almost half an hour and parents said nothing.

We're fairly strict about screaming and I hate that our neighbours dont seem to mind their kids screaming in the garden non stop. But I would be okay with it on a zip wire!!! Or rollercoaster!!

Maybe it is? I'm in Melbourne.
