Another day, another celebrity surrogate baby

www.eonline.com/amp/news/1317172/nick-jonas-and-priyanka-chopra-welcome-baby-via-surrogate I think I need to stop looking at social media as hardly a week goes by when I don t see yet another wealthy celebrity couple opening up their homes to a little baby via surrogate. So many rich gay couples as well it’s like their own little community of fathers with surrogate babies. Is it social media that is making it look so common or has it somehow increased recently? I’m not talking normal average people I’m talking about people literally being able to buy babies.

@oncemoreunto

It is child trafficking.

The buying and selling of vulnerable new born babies.

With fewer restrictions than are present for the buying and selling of kittens and puppies.

This is why it's illegal to pay surrogate mothers in the UK
Stroopwaffle5000 · 22/01/2022 18:19

@Shapiro

What a weird couple. She is an attractive older woman and he looks about 12.
🤣 He's actually 29, but you're right, he does have a very boyish face!
oncemoreunto · 22/01/2022 18:21

It is illegal to pay directly in the UK.
Currently.
Expenses are an excellent way of boosting incomes as MP scandals have shown.

Bizarre and unpleasant comments on here. As someone who has struggled with infertility, surrogacy is the last option people usually try to start a family. It isn't an easy path, so many risks and uncertainties. Wish the new family all the luck and happiness in the world

Yeah poor celebrities using someone to host their child putting themselves at risk because there shedules don't alide to ttc. Are they going to take time off to care for there premature baby. Likely have a nanny on hand to do the parenting.

Tigertigertigertiger · 22/01/2022 21:58

Yes it is indeed child trafficking for rich people

EachandEveryone · 22/01/2022 22:04

And i wonder if the surrogate will be expected to pump her milk now?

It’s really weird that the reason is being given as them being too busy for sex...

I mean, what?

That can’t be the actual reason, surely?

longwayoff · 22/01/2022 23:31

Selling people is illegal. Why is it OK to buy babies? What if you don't like your latest purchase? Can you return it for a refund? Or one you like better? Awful.

ArrrMeHearties · 23/01/2022 00:36

Maybe they should of got a tamagotchi instead of a baby? Least if your too busy to look after it you reset it. You can't reset having or in their case buying a baby

Agreed. That’s totally bizarre.

The whole quote from the Marie Vlaire link was;

Priyanka doesn’t have any fertility issues preventing her from having a baby, but she is 39 now so it’s not getting any easier,.

‘Their busy work schedules also mean that it’s difficult for them to physically be together to conceive when she is ovulating, so some time ago they went down the surrogacy route.

‘This is the woman’s fifth surrogacy. They met her and really liked her.

Infertility is a tricky issue in Indian culture but surely they must have realised that what they said sounds far worse than just not commenting on the reasons for choosing surrogacy?

Then they go on to make clear that the biological mother is a serial brood mare. WHY? Shock

It’s not an easy path for the birth mother either, so spare a thought for her, not the ones with the cheque book.
EachandEveryone · 24/01/2022 15:23

I think you are missing the point that 99% of these celebs dont have fertility problems they are either too busy or too vain or too old or in gay relationships. Not remotely the same as normal people going through infertility issues.

No, I mean...

They particularly attract a lot of - it’s a fake relationship rumours, I assume her not being white makes it worse for that tbh. Hmm

So to have someone going, oh yeah, no issues, they just don’t have sex enough... seems, well, odd.

Fertility issues would seem like the obvious thing to say, whether it’s true or not.

peaceanddove · 24/01/2022 19:26

I remember reading an article years ago about why so many celebrity women adopt/use surrogacy. Apparently it's because they often have too little body fat in order to ovulate reliably.

Ahalam · 24/01/2022 19:36

Is it really as simple as paying for a baby?

The process of being approved for adoption is so rigorous and invasive. Is there not a similar process for adopting a surrogate?

Fairyliz · 24/01/2022 19:42

I thought the rumours were possible hes not so keen on ladies older or indeed younger?

This totally!

It is not considered adoption.

There are nothing like the checks that are done during an adoption.

The people who have bought these children are allowed to remove them from their birth mothers at birth.
Something we do not allow people purchasing kittens or puppies to do.

Yes surrogacy sucks but that's just body shaming nonsense. HTH

peaceanddove · 24/01/2022 21:46

Why is it body shaming? I think it's a biological fact that women have to retain a certain level of body fat in order to ovulate regularly?

ohhhhdear · 24/01/2022 22:22

Assuming normal sized celebs can't conceive is also an insult to ordinary Mumsnetters. Let's here the list of women you think are too underweight to ovulate? What's your secret to knowing this information?

Because apparently your their personal physician. You have to be seriously underweight before that happens - implying this is true of ladies you don't know and who don't appear severely malnourished is just rude and stupid.

peaceanddove · 24/01/2022 22:24

So, you agree that women with too low levels of body fat will struggle to ovulate reliably. Good.

Sorry but you are projecting your own struggles into an repulsive industry where millionaire celebrities use their status to exploit surrogates in order to get what why want. I do accept that some have fertility issues but cannot believe this so the case for most of them. Babies are not commodities They are human beings
RaelImperialAerosolKid · 25/01/2022 15:07

I think in this case time will tell - this is a very premature baby - i really hope they step up and parent their baby and don't outsource this.

ohhhhdear · 25/01/2022 15:41

@peaceanddove

Now let's substitute overweight for underweight and watch you throw a tantrum. Mind your own business instead of others bodies. Which celebs do you think are too malnourished to ovulate - come on then, let's hear it!
