Where on earth have I put my credit card?

I’m currently travelling overseas in a country where the economy is largely cash driven and so haven’t had much need for my credit card (though obviously do need it for booking internal flights and the occasional splurge on a higher end hotel). I last used it in person on 28th December.

And now for the life of me I cannot find it. I’ve spent the last couple of hours going through all my luggage, including checking linings of bags, pockets, bags for masks & medication, inside passport and books and under the felt lining of the safe. (I tried shifting the safe in case I had mindlessly shoved it adjacent to the safe but that triggered an alarm ).

I know no one on Mumsnet can psychically know where my credit card is - but thought I would try asking as I’ve occasionally seen threads like this which trigger the OP into finding the lost item

PS My cash point card remains in my purse and this is the card I am largely using. (I suppose it’s possible I removed the credit card from my purse as I wasn’t using it and in case of bag snatch etc - but, if so, where on earth have I put it?)

PPS I have checked my account online and it hasn’t been used other than for some online purchases I have made

Have you managed to put it in the "wrong" slot in your purse? I did that once & had a bit of panic.

Have you got a case on your phone that you put it in? I sometimes do that if I don't want to carry a bag or purse.

I have checked and rechecked all slots and nooks & crannies of my purse. Each time I get my purse out of tbe safe to recheck, I keep hoping it will be there and that somehow I missed it!

No - I don’t - but that sort of thing sounds quite a likely thing to do! (I checked the little card wallet my hotel room key is in in case it were there as the cards are same size & shape)

Have you been staying in the same place since you last had it? You haven't left it somewhere as a security deposit and forgotten to collect it again?

Have u had to hand it in to reception and they have not given it you back? Inside your passport?

Do the lights in your room need a card in the slot to work?

Back pocket of some garment you rarely wear? Are there any secret pockets in your luggage?

I was going to say the phone case too.

Mobile phone case? Tablet or laptop case or bag? Have you checked the pockets of trousers, jackets, coats? Did you pre-auth any additional expenses when you checked into a hotel?

When you check your purse, are you taking everything out or just checking slot by slot?

Empty bags out completely, don't just check each compartment or pocket separately. Have you been in a car at all? Check down the side of armchairs and sofas and under seat cushions. Under the bed. In your suitcase.

Little pockets inside suitcase and/or handbags? Zipper pockets? I have a tendency to chuck mine in my makeup bag. Not seen mine for nearly a week. 🙄

Sorry OP but given the length of time I'd be reporting it as lost ASAP. You might have somehow had it pickpocketed. Sorry it's horrible enough to not be able to find it but the thought that someone might be out there managing to use it would be too much for me.

I’m going to check with Reception at the hotel I’m in in case it was required for pre authorisation. I will then contact the four other places I’ve stayed at in case I left it there (albeit only one had facilities to take credit cards).

Then will check with the pharmacy across the road where I spent a bit of time purchasing medication, wondering if I had enough money and whether payment by credit card would be possible.

Then I will check once more in the obvious places in case staring me straight in the face.

Then sadly I guess I have to cancel it - which is a shame as it’s a great credit card specifically for travel

My sense of it is that I likely took it OUT of my purse as surplus to require eggs - but WHERE?!

What did you use it for on the 28th?
Is it with anything else you used that day? Can you remember the coat you wore that day if out and about? Check those pockets. With the shopping you did that day?

I used it on the 28th to settle a hotel bill. Since then, I have been staying in accommodation which is strictly cash only.

I checked with Reception just now and they triumphantly pulled out a sealed envelope with a credit card in that had been handed in - not mine, alas
