Where on earth have I put my credit card?

I’m currently travelling overseas in a country where the economy is largely cash driven and so haven’t had much need for my credit card (though obviously do need it for booking internal flights and the occasional splurge on a higher end hotel). I last used it in person on 28th December.

And now for the life of me I cannot find it. I’ve spent the last couple of hours going through all my luggage, including checking linings of bags, pockets, bags for masks & medication, inside passport and books and under the felt lining of the safe. (I tried shifting the safe in case I had mindlessly shoved it adjacent to the safe but that triggered an alarm ).

I know no one on Mumsnet can psychically know where my credit card is - but thought I would try asking as I’ve occasionally seen threads like this which trigger the OP into finding the lost item

OK. So, you've been back to the previous hotel from the 28th?
You've checked the pockets of whatever you might have been wearing?
The easy reach pockets on the suitcases?

Might be time to report lost. Have you got someone picking up your post? DHL don't like sending credit cards. Mum put mine in a birthday card, and sent it that way - there is no way she'd lie on a customs form, but 'card' was apparently acceptable in that situation!

Have you checked every single on of your pockets in your clothes and bags?

I do this all the time. My bank card has bow been missing for around 3 months

Maybe in your phone case? I often put my bank card in the case, behind my phone so it's there just in case Apple Pay doesn't work.

Have you literally checked every pocket? I was panicking on holiday that I'd lost my credit card, that I was sure I'd put in my trouser pockets, and wasn't there. The following day I discovered I'd put in in a tiny back pocket I hadn't even noticed the trousers had...

Agree I 'lost' and found my card in a pocket in a top I didn’t even know had a pocket. I’d checked jeans and coats but not tops

I also 'lost' my passport in the folds of a magazine I had put in the safe place for my passport

Are you travelling by car? Glovebox? Side pocket of door? On the floor...pull the seats right back? Mine has slipped between the seat and handbrake console before - tricky to spot.

Could it be in a book you have been reading?

Are you staying in a hotel? Have they kept it at reception ?

OK - so I’ve tried ‘everywhere’ suggested. And contacted the various places I’ve stayed at so far.

Tonight I will be packing (before starting the next leg of my journey). Maybe - she says hopefully - it will turn up when packing…

Have you got any jackets or shirts with tops pockets on the outside? I lost my student card for a long while and found it eventually in a tiny flap pocket on the outside of a jacket.

I'll bet it's in your laptop case from when you had to put the last three numbers on the back in to buy something

Do you go running? Could it be in a bum bag or similar ?

Check the pockets in your jeans.

If you've not found it then you should contact the issuer and cancel it unless you've got it attached to something like a Curve card account and can still use it without the physical card.

You could have simply left it somewhere or dropped it ~ airport, restaurant, hotel, shop ~ and staff have held onto it in case you show up to collect it. Can you cancel it & get another one forwarded to you (by a relative or something?)

Sadly, I have now to conclude it’s lost.

I have just carefully packed for my next destination, using this as an opportunity to go through every pocket, book, ours / iPad case / handbag / wheelie bag and nook & cranny in the room.

I have also checked with each hotel I’ve stayed at and the pharmacy shopped at. I tend not to carry it with me all the time as card is not widely used where I am - so unlikely to have fallen out. (I also don’t get it out for online purchases as my iPhone remembers its details (and I have a photo of it on my phone).

It’s my key credit card for travel - a fantastic one! - as it doesn’t charge any fees & applies good exchange rates. (I’ve checked my online statement and the only charges there are ones I recognise).
