I've discovered BBC sounds... What would you recommend I listen to?

I generally enjoy documentaries, comedy, amongst other things.

Lots of great comedy shows, but one which for some reason hardly ever comes up on a BBC Sounds search is Reluctant Persuaders. Nigel Havers displaying a comic edge I never knew he had.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/01/2022 19:15

Josh and Rob’s parenting podcast is excellent

Uncanny is amazing!

Another vote for battersea poltergeist and cuncanny!

Callcat · 20/01/2022 19:58

*'uncanny' sorry. Cuncanny sounds like a sneaky vagina 🤣

dotty81 · 20/01/2022 19:59

If you like music and film then Miranda Sawyer's Sound & Vision is excellent.

CoodleMoodle · 20/01/2022 20:02

Parenting Hell (my favourite)
Wolf & Owl
Life's a Beach
My Mate Bought A Toaster
Taskmaster Podcast

Very lowbrow but all very funny! I've also listened to a few episodes of One Torn Every Minute (about childbirth), and I really miss Seven Pillars. Next on my list are Memory Lane and My Time Capsule.

IggyAce · 20/01/2022 20:03

Uncanny
About to start the Battersea poltergeist.
Also Shagged Married annoyed and Morbid.

Callcat · 20/01/2022 20:03

There's an excellent long form investigative podcast called 'the coming storm' too. I binged it! And the Nolan investigation too. And OF COURSE The Archers!!!

Signoramarella · 20/01/2022 20:06

The Battersea POltergeist, although not late at night alone!!

BeQuietBrenda · 20/01/2022 20:08

Not sure if these are on BBC Sounds but my favourites (in order) are:

  1. Shagged, Married, Annoyed - Chris & Rosie Ramsey (just hilarious, they bicker and bounce off each other and are very entertaining. Not keen on either of them on TV shows, but the podcast really is brilliant).

  2. Parenting Hell - Josh Widdecombe & Rob Beckett (2 episodes a week, 1 with a celebrity discussing the highs and lows of parenting. Very accessible and very funny)

  3. True Crime & Cocktails - Lauren Ash & Chrissy Oxborrow (they get drunk, chat a lot and eventually get around to talking about True Crime before giving their verdicts on what may or may not have happened. 2-3 hours long but very entertaining)

  4. Wondery British Scandal - Alice Levine & Matt Fforde (Big scandals such as The Profumo Affair, Nick Leeson & Barings Bank, the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko to John Darwen faking his own death in a canoe)

  5. Life's a Beach - Alan Carr (celebs discuss their travel/holiday highs and lows)

  6. The Graham Norton Show (his weekly radio show on Virgin)

  7. Talking Dogs - Graeme Hall (the guy who does Dogs Behaving Badly on channel 5. All things dog behavioural and training tips)

  8. The Radio Times Podcast - Jane Garvey (all things TV)

Janedownourlane · 20/01/2022 20:12

Gardener's Corner BBC Ulster on Sounds. David Maxwell's lovely voice sends me to sleep so unfortunately Ive never got to the end of an hour!

ineedsun · 20/01/2022 20:13

My Dad Wrote a Porno - I’ve only just discovered it and am totally hooked

ajandjjmum · 20/01/2022 20:16

White Wine Question Time - makes my walks fly by!

ElenaCouch · 20/01/2022 20:18

I second the PP, I love Youre dead to me. I knew nothing about history, so I started with the easier episodes, such as the history of chocolate. Fell in love with learning about Lord Byron and that whole era. Now onto stuff id never even heard of before.

whymewhyme · 20/01/2022 20:20

Uncanny was ace, does anybody have any sumilar podcast they can recommend?

emilyintheSE · 20/01/2022 20:22

Parenting Hell - my fave! Been listening since Day 1

Divorced Not Dead

Serial - specifically "Nice White Parents" chapter right now

The Diary of a CEO

musicalfrog · 20/01/2022 20:23

I've been enjoying Pieces of Britney and Nolan Investigates - they are long series and taking me a while to get through but very indepth!

I've also enjoyed the true crime podcasts on there but can't remember the names.
