As it says on the tin!

OP posts:

I have around 8k in what I like to call my black ops fund 🤣 my dad screwed my mum over when they got divorced and then her second husband did the same so Ive always squirrelled a bit away for emergencies.

We’ve been together 10 years, own our home, have a child and are in a strong equal relationship but my mum having to move us into a council house and then struggling for years after haunts me still.

I have about £100K tucked away, if we ever get divorced hopefully he doesn't find out about it.

He has about 50p in his account because his wages are paid into the joint account and his expenses come out of there, to be honest he only has a phone bill and Spotify, he doesn't have lot of personal expenses.

LondonQueen · 19/01/2022 07:05

None, why would you save hidings from your husband?

*hide savings! Clearly I'm still half asleep.
garlictwist · 19/01/2022 07:06

I don't have any savings so none!

You can't just hide assets is a divorce...
Frannibananni · 19/01/2022 07:09

I think there may be some coins in the car. No secrets here.

TokyoDreaming · 19/01/2022 07:10

I'll spend it in the case of an impending divorce, otherwise what is the point of any of us putting money away?

peboh · 19/01/2022 07:10

Nothing. I do have a savings account separate from our joint accounts in case of a relationship breakdown/emergency. As a sahm having that security that if the worst was to happen is important. This way I can least provide a roof over mine and dd heads, and afford to keep us both until I could find a job. He knows about this account though, and my reasonings for it.

@nalabae

Hiding things in your marriage is by a good thing or anything to be proud about
Being abused in your marriage, which often includes financial abuse, and no means of escape isn't a good thing.
BABAHOTEL · 19/01/2022 07:19

None

Can you imagine if a man on here tried to hide a six figure sum in a divorce!
CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 19/01/2022 07:30

None, but I am the sole earner so I support him and DD.

SeeminglyOblivious · 19/01/2022 07:35

I have a couple of k put aside he's unaware of...but that's me starting early to save for his 40th in a couple of years as I want to book a surprise holiday 😂

However it has shown me that he's actually not that aware of our finances - I've had no trouble in 'stealing' this money from the household (as everything is joint and shared) without his knowledge in the past year!

Other than that all savings are joint and known about by both of us.

fortheloveofcheesecake · 19/01/2022 07:35

I agree, very naive. Marriages are all great until they're not...People can change very swiftly due to affairs, addictions, stress. To think your marriage is above this and not to plan for the 'what if' is very naive indeed.

Footprintsinthegrass · 19/01/2022 07:38

My dh and I share most accounts, he doesn't look at anything though. I take money from his account and put it into our savings and there's 25k in there. He knows there's savings but i think he thinks there nearer half of what is actually there. By his own account he's better off not knowing how much is there. Of course it's joint savings and if he wants access he just need log on

I also have an envelope of cash, I was due a weekend away with a friend in 2020 that got cancelled so I put the £400 into an envelope and I've occasionally added to it, I counted it the other day and there's £800, I was really surprised how the odd fiver has added up

Grasping · 19/01/2022 07:47

I don’t specifically keep my 45k savings a secret. He just doesn’t know about it.
It’s not like we need it really, we have other savings and I doubt he knows how much.

Ceramide · 19/01/2022 07:56

How about you OP?

TokyoDreaming · 19/01/2022 07:59

Tell me more about the poor menz please?

OliviaKeeling · 19/01/2022 08:05

He knows I have savings but doesn't know the amount. Far more than he imagines, I think.

Sallyrainbow · 19/01/2022 08:06

Make sure it doesn't go inactive or dormant!

Sallyrainbow · 19/01/2022 08:10

What if things go wrong though ? He has an asset and you have empty shopping bags

alwayswrighty · 19/01/2022 08:11

None. Although my husband just let's me crack on with our budget/savings.

WheekestLink · 19/01/2022 08:12

None that he doesn't know about.

I do have an emergency savings fund that would be enough for a deposit on a small house, he isn't aware of how much this is but he knows I have separate savings. I think it's quite short sighted to not ensure you would both be okay in the event of an unpleasant separation.

We don't know what is around the corner and I want to protect my child as much as I can.
