Does anyone actually believe that Boris didn't knowingly break the rules?

Other than his cronies (and even they can't really believe it!)

He’s a proven liar. It’s was he does, lie and bluster. And because he keeps getting away with it, he keeps doing it.

I bet he’s furious this isn’t going away

Howshouldibehave · 18/01/2022 18:44

I can’t imagine anyone in the country thinks he isn’t lying.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/01/2022 18:46

I’m not sure that Boris believes it really.

No but there are lots of quiet Tories who don’t care.
I don't really care. BJ should resign and let's appoint someone competent Focussing on 'parties' will not bring anyone back to life.

Of course he should, but he won’t and next election whoever has wangled their way to the top will get voted in. It’s Tory central round here - they don’t care.

Nomicron · 18/01/2022 18:46

What I don’t understand is that in such a high level job as his it’s all about the ‘optics’-how does this look to the public-it should all be about showing himself in the best light yet over and over again he’s made himself look like an utter cunt.

EmmaH2022 · 18/01/2022 18:47

@helpfulperson

I don't think he thought 'I know its against the rules but let's have a party'. I think he just didn't even consider the question which in some ways is worse.
This is sort of what I think

During lockdown, I sometimes looked at things like huge queues for the supermarket, or heard stories about items being quarantined if a customer had touched them and thought, does the PM, on a real level, know what's going on?

I had to go into the City once for a medical appointment and I wondered if he knew it was deserted.

But if he just does as he's told, that's almost worse than "sod it, I'll have a party, .i'll get away with it."

I didn't see more than a couple of clips from press conferences but I only saw him checking rules. I don't know how I feel if he genuinely doesn't know what hell he inflicted on everyone, as a man who is meant to be a libertarian.

CorrBlimeyGG · 18/01/2022 18:47

Sadly there are plenty of people that do still believe him, and will go with whatever shit he comes out with. Have a look at some of his supporters groups on Facebook, it's like another world!

LittleWingSoul · 18/01/2022 18:49

No one actually thinks it will be believed though, do they? It is just pure shithousery to make us realise how completely powerless we are and how futile everything is... They are laughing at us!

Interesting Adam Curtis short:

Oh Dearism g.co/kgs/FNargC

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 18/01/2022 18:49

His excuse has now morphed into not being able to understand his own rules without someone telling him what they are, minute by minute.

I fucking hate him. It's now a visceral hate - minute by minute.

EmmaH2022 · 18/01/2022 18:49

@TheSnowyOwl

No. If he wouldn’t be prime minister if he wasn’t capable of understanding the rules that he dictated to the rest of the country. So since stupidity is the only excuse and one he can’t use, the only other option is being a liar.
It's not just stupidity or lying

There's a third option of "don't know, don't care, someone else makes the law really and it doesn't affect me".

Romeiswheretheheartis · 18/01/2022 18:52

I'd love a journalist to wave at him a video clip of him telling us the rules, and ask 'was this you?' Grin

Tavelo · 18/01/2022 18:52

Some people are so entitled thay they genuinely don't don't know when they're lying or not because they're only used to things going swimmingly for them. There are actually many, many people like him in the UK.

In the time lading up to the pandemic he had more holidays (while PM) than I've had in my entire life.

NickiMinajerie · 18/01/2022 18:53

Nah, thought the rules didn't apply to him. At an old job, we used to have working lunches once a month where we all took a dish in and there was wine at that. But this was pre-Covid obvs and there was literally just seven of us.
I think he thinks if he labels quizzes, wine and cheese and outdoor 'meetings' with wine as work-related/morale etc then he can get by the rules but BYOB is a bridge too far surely Shirley
especially with the numbers involved.
Am amazed Cummings et al sat on it for as long as they did, mind

Rockbird · 18/01/2022 18:55

it should all be about showing himself in the best light yet over and over again he’s made himself look like an utter cunt.

That is his best light...

woulducouldushouldu · 18/01/2022 18:56

He's a liar and a cheat.

If Carrie were posting about him on Mumsnet the overwhelming vote would be for her to LTB

ParkheadParadise · 18/01/2022 19:00

No, Bawbag Boris is a fucking LIAR.

BestZebbie · 18/01/2022 19:01

I can believe he personally considered it ‘work’ in as much as it was a function with his work colleagues, which he possibly attended largely because it was polite to do so and it was held in his own garden, rather than seeing it like “hosting a party” for his personal friends for fun.

Doesn’t explain why they were holding the party at all though!

passionfruitpizza · 18/01/2022 19:04

No but my opinion of him couldn't get any lower so I don't really care that much about any of the revelations.

Squaffle · 18/01/2022 19:04

Not for a single second.

Ellie56 · 18/01/2022 19:06

No of course not. He's lying about this like he lies about everything else.

TooMuchSugar22 · 18/01/2022 19:06

Not in a million years!

This would be excellent.
itsgettingweird · 18/01/2022 19:12

No.

He made them and got them passed through parliament.
