Does anyone actually believe that Boris didn't knowingly break the rules?

Other than his cronies (and even they can't really believe it!)

@CactusFlowers

Of course he knew. He just didn’t think the rules applied to him.
Rules are for 'the little people' . Of course they don't apply to him. Neither does having to tell the truth in Boris World. He's not constrained by all that - truth is for oiks!

Has anyone seen this by Jed Mercurio - brilliant!

Hope we get to see the £800 a roll gold wall paper once he’s moved out.

Seemslikeagoodidea · 18/01/2022 23:06

No, but he seems to lie so often that maybe he believes his own lies. He can delude himself, but he's not fooling anyone else now.

This nails it. Hope Met Police see this and take notes.

Well well… Boris can only get away with murder because most conservative MPs are more than happy to turn a blind eye to everything he does. The party who chose him as leader has no preoccupation to make him accountable.

Now, if it is convenient to support a crazy distracted demagogue in power, it does make you wonder what those MPs are hiding, what benefits are they getting from having a leader who is not on the ball?

This. He was told by scientists what to say. But ignored it himself
donquixotedelamancha · 18/01/2022 23:58

I believe him. I think he poked his head out of his bedroom window, saw loads of people in his back garden drinking, tables filled with booze and went down for a quick chat to say thank you for their hard work. How could he reasonably be expected to know that was a party?

As for all the other parties (6/7 at no 10 alone, that we know of) he was probably out or had headphones in or something. It's not fair to expect him to know what his immediate staff were doing in the office he runs.

He's never done anything to make anyone distrust him (apart from being sacked for dishonesty twice, being recorded arranging an assault, the lies about Hillsborough, the newspaper articles he provably made up and all the money he promised for the NHS which didn't materialise.)

@tearinghairout

I've just seen the same interview. He was trying to think of an.excuse and couldn't, so was looking down at his shoes. Pathetic. I'm sick of this. But who is competent to replace him? I can't think of anyone!
Agree that they are all as bad as each other and none of them are fit to lead the country but Johnson still needs to be held accountable for his actions. He needs to go now and we'll have to worry about his replacement later.
InAState22 · 19/01/2022 06:58

No

needmoreshinys · 19/01/2022 07:28

I think the worrying thing in this, is if it was not for a vengenful ex staff how much would we actually know

peridito · 19/01/2022 08:29

The worrying things for me are

it further undermines everyone's faith in politicians and interest in politics .

the drinking culture amongst number 10 staff

ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 12:10

PMQs yes going to get through this. He’s just fronting it out. And being cheered.

ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 12:23

He is literally laughing as Blackford speaks, wobbling his head side to side like ‘get on with it’. Keeps on about the enquiry which he’s clearly won (can we expect Dame Sue Grey any time soon?)

ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 12:24

He’s checked his watch 😲

Poppins2016 · 19/01/2022 12:26

@Imayhaveerred

He’d have a better chance of convincing us if he hadn’t done all those TV broadcasts explaining the rules and telling us not to socialise with people we don’t live with…
Absolutely.
ENoeuf · 19/01/2022 12:31

I don’t know why I watch. It’s white (rich) male privilege in action

FindmeuptheFarawaytree · 20/01/2022 20:23

Of course he knew. To me though this is irrelevant as surely ignorance of the law is not an excuse for breaking it.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 20/01/2022 20:52

@ENoeuf

Agree.

So it's a No from me too (to the original question)

To anyone who hasn't worked it out yet:

He is a Mysoginistic, Racist, Privileged arsehole. He has cheated on numerous partners, Has lied profusely throughout his entire career and is a self serving narcissist who repeatedly dodges being held to account. He has gaslighit us all. Any man or woman who would continue to support him, I worry for. If it was you in a relationship with him, would you stay with a person like this?

Personally, I feel that if you cannot currently trust the opposition to be better than this, then either

A: Do some research. No party will ever tick all your boxes, but you will naturally veer to either the left, right or centre. Research should not include being influenced by Facebook echo chambers. This is part of the problem. Search political compass to see where you fit best

B: Stand for MP on your own.
Independent if necessary
