We need a name for our new pet! (Arachnophobes look away now!)

I warned you!

This is our new Caribena Versicolor Tarantula, a juvenile at only 6-8cm. And as it's still only small, we don't know the sex yet. None of us can think up a name! Apart from 3yr old DS, he wants to name it Cute Smile

The C.Versi is one of the most colourful types of Tarantula. As spiderlings (or slings, for short) they are Smurf blue (as seen in the attached screenshot), then at some point during their juvenile stage they moult into their adult colours of red, blue, purple and green, which, for a spider, is really pretty!

I'm not keen on spiders but that one looks quite lovely.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/01/2022 00:21

I’d call it Floyd.

Your spidey can be a bit pink in bits.

Prism/rainbow Dark Side of The Moon for multicolour?

Might have gone a bit random but I think it would be lovely. 🕷 💜

Years ago I had a giant spider that lived in a hole in a skirting board. I was too soft to get rid of it, even though it attacked the hoover if you went near the "lair", and the cat and the dog were spooked by it lol.
To be fair it didn't do much except shoot out and make me jump every so often.
I'm not sure how long spiders live, but there was one there for 2 years, then the skirting was replaced.
I like spiders even if they do make me jump ! RIP Fred spider
Your spider is lovely OP :-)

Frank after the spider in Back to the Outback (Netflix)... I have been forced to watch it approx 17,567 times over Xmas so it's indelibly etched on my brain (I secretly quite like it).

I'm not sure about house spiders but my C.Versi will live to be around 12 years if it turns out to be female. Males only live up to 3 years, they have a rather sad existence tbh, they just wander around looking for a mate until they die :( Some tarantulas can live much longer though, the Goliath Birdeater for example, females can live up to 25 years!
