Soooooo stuck for ideas! Doesn’t want a watch, has every device known to man, not bothered about a car (is happy to be on my insurance for now) and isn’t really that excited by money. Any ideas gratefully received!

Festival or gig tickets? A weekend away somewhere cool? Designer type coat or jacket?

Decorhate · 15/01/2022 19:38

Ds is getting a festival ticket. I’d like to get him something else to open on the day ;ticket won’t be issued by then) but don’t know what.

Goawayquickly · 15/01/2022 19:40

Any hobbies? I'd love a telescope for instance.

ScarlettDarling · 15/01/2022 19:43

He’s bought himself tickets for Leeds festival with his Saturday job wages. No real hobbies... swims and goes to the gym but not in a big way. He really is impossible to buy for.

He didn't want anything.
I suggested a laptop, no happy with his pc.
Archery kit, no didn't need anything.
Had started driving lessons just before covid and had money for those for his 17th but hadn't gone back to it.

In the end I gave him a big bar of galaxy & bank transferred a decent amount of money.

We bought our son a Ralph Lauren blazer.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/01/2022 19:54

For our DS1's 21st we bought him a (very high quality) coffee machine. It was what he asked for.

ScarlettDarling · 15/01/2022 20:14

Thanks for the suggestions. It’s looking increasingly likely that the bank transfer is the only option. He’d not be interested in an expensive item of clothing like a blazer and doesn’t drink coffee. Doesn’t help that his birthday is the month after Christmas!

@ScarlettDarling my DS is 18 in a few weeks and we have had a dilemma, he got loads for Christmas, is in not in need of anything, has a lot of money saved from his part time job. In the end I've chosen a Mont Blanc pen engraved with his DOB, it's not something he will appreciate yet, hopefully he will as he gets older. I think his dad is getting him a nice looking watch (not digital or smart one). We felt we wanted something to mark the occasion, won't know how it's received for a few weeks

A 22 carat gold chain wigha symbol of our faith on a pendant to go with it. It did take me a year to save for though!!

Sixmonthson · 15/01/2022 20:21

The present my son appreciated the most was a multi framed picture with a little photo of him at every year of his life. 10 years later it’s still on display in his own home.

He did get money too!

Racingadmin · 15/01/2022 20:23

We gave £180, bottle of champagne and £18 worth of lottery tickets and scratchcards . This was in lockdown so no party or meal out

gunnersgold · 15/01/2022 20:29

We gave dd £1000 and some clothes . We got her a car for her 17 th so that was out . She didn't want anything either . Teens don't really want stuff do they. ?

PermanentTemporary · 15/01/2022 20:35

Tickets for the Commonwealth Games and a 23andme kit. He was pleased.

GettingStuffed · 15/01/2022 20:39

Thekormachameleon · 15/01/2022 20:44

Santahasjoinedww · 15/01/2022 20:46

Account at' my protein' or similar?

RoyKentsChestHair · 15/01/2022 21:06

A tattoo Blush. He was adamant he was getting several the minute he turned 18 and had booked into his favourite artist the day after his bday so I called ahead and paid for it upfront as a surprise.

BellaVita · 15/01/2022 21:09

Both DS’s wanted a tattoo so we paid for a days sitting for them.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 15/01/2022 21:10

Premium bonds.

Open up a Lisa and set up a DD.

That’s my plan. Premium bonds are a bit of fun and easily accessible if they need it. lisa so there’s a bit put aside for a house deposit.

ufucoffee · 15/01/2022 21:15

I gave him an amount of money to go towards driving lessons. He frittered the money away. His choice. He did learn to drive though and paid for all of the lessons himself.

@Decorhate have a look on Etsy for personalised tickets. I bought DS theatre tickets for Christmas and ordered a personalised ticket- was wooden with the production name, date etc on so he had something to unwrap on the day

A big box to open filled with local craft beers, nice bars of chocolate, nice biscuits, nice snacks, pint glass, bottle opener etc etc.

And a bank transfer.
