Soooooo stuck for ideas! Doesn’t want a watch, has every device known to man, not bothered about a car (is happy to be on my insurance for now) and isn’t really that excited by money. Any ideas gratefully received!

A gaming lap top and new swish office chair plus a Lego modular building. He couldn’t speak when he saw the present pile as he’d wanted the gaming laptop for so long and never imagined he’d get it.

A ticket to see Manchester City play at the Etihad Stadium with access to the special bar overlooking the pitch (can't remember what its called) and a weekend holdall for university, fingers crossed. We are very excited to see him open them!!

Threekidsanddogs · 15/01/2022 22:05

My son was the same and asked for a start with a stocks and share portfolio. He adds Christmas and birthday money to it.

TheScottishPlay · 15/01/2022 22:18

It's my DS 18th birthday today.

We gave him:

A voucher for a tattoo - his most wished for gift.

Two reference books for his uni course starting in September.

Cash in his card.

An engraved St Christopher bracelet (as he's Thurday's child).

An astrological chart.

A set of house keys on a family tartan keyring.

Pen/notebook/bookmark relating to the play he's named after a character in.

Also went out for tea.

A year’s gym subscription. Which turned into two years Hmm

longtompot · 15/01/2022 22:20

We bought our ds this for his 16th www.lordtitles.co.uk/

Inspirationpending · 15/01/2022 22:24

A festival ticket
Cash
and paid for an 18th bday party

Rubyupbeat · 15/01/2022 22:28

Both of mine got a 22ct St.Christopher oval engraved medal on a chain, a mont blanche pen engraved and a decent amount of money to spend as they wish.

RussianSpy101 · 15/01/2022 22:30

Holiday?

Rubyupbeat · 15/01/2022 22:30

blanc

Puffalicious · 15/01/2022 22:32

@Sixmonthson

The present my son appreciated the most was a multi framed picture with a little photo of him at every year of his life. 10 years later it’s still on display in his own home.

He did get money too!

I LOVE this idea! My DS isn't 18 until Sep but this is gorgeous. We're doing the car thing (old car nothing crazy) but I adore this idea. Thank you.
Bettybantz · 15/01/2022 22:32

A set of decks

givemepiece · 15/01/2022 22:36

Following! As DS is 18 in March

So far he just wants cash but that's soooo boring

Op, would your ds be interested in some crypto currency? Disclaimer / I don't know anything about it but it seems cool

Puffalicious · 15/01/2022 22:39

@Bettybantz

A set of decks
This is also a great shout. He has starter ones but a great idea, or maybe a really good turntable - vinyl junkie!
SpookyScarySkeletons · 15/01/2022 22:45

Mine wants a bottle of expensive whisky. I am dubious but then keep reminding myself they could buy it themselves the day after if they wanted.

I think I'm going to find this whole "18" thing really hard!!

Zoflorabore · 15/01/2022 22:56

My ds was 18 last March. He had already had half of his present which was a trip to New York with his sixth form just before covid struck but obviously that wasn’t really for his 18th, it was justified by saying that it was Wink

In the end he got a top of the range Apple Mac which he had always wanted, some Tom Ford aftershave and the promise of a meal when it was allowed. I also got him a print which said something like “you have been loved for X amount of days, X amount of months, X amount of weeks, X amount of minutes etc which he loved. And a cake!

He is 19 in March and I have no clue what to get him as he has everything. I know him and his friends are planning a few weekends away in Europe so may be practical and get him a gorgeous suitcase.

Op it’s so hard when they’re so difficult to buy for. Have you asked him outright?

Puffalicious · 15/01/2022 23:58

Love the print idea too Zoflora

A gorgeous suitcase/ bag is a great idea, together with a phrase book and a euro note inside it? I'm collecting all these ideas for the future/ family to buy for DS.

80sMum · 16/01/2022 00:00

We gave DS some driving lessons for his 18th and a nice watch for his 21st.

ScarlettDarling · 16/01/2022 09:00

Thank you so much everyone for all of the ideas. I find boys/ men so hard to buy for. My daughter is so much easier!

I’ve asked him outright and all he’s come up with is a new bike lock and case for his AirPods!! We’ve offered to pay for a holiday for him but he’d need to get his friends on board and no one is committing to anything yet. The pp who mentioned a posh match ticket, that’s a great idea but one of his best friend’s dad has an executive box which he gets invited to a few times every season when they have a spare place! He has a membership to a very posh gym/ health club as a perk of his Saturday job.

He’s not into jewellery or tattoos, doesn’t want to upgrade his current laptop. He loves travelling so something related to that could be good now that hopefully we’re over the worst of COVID.

I like the idea of a stocks and shares portfolio rather than cold hard cash.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions. If anyone else has any brainwaves I’d love to hear them.

We bought ds shares in Games Workshop a few years back for his birthday. We bought them because he's really into Warhammer, not particularly in the hope of making lots of money. He enjoys tracking them and all, he has invested some birthday and Christmas money in them since then.
