Mumsnet Village Hall - committee members and volunteers needed

I've got the keys and we've got the entire building to ourselves. There's a kitchenette with a large enough fridge for Gin (maybe milk if absolutely necessary).

I need committee members and volunteers to organise a packed social calendar.

On the agenda for first meeting:

The Mumsnet Play - we need to agree on the script and then we can start casting

Life Drawing Class - we need a subject and smocks of course

Cake and Gin night - cant decide which night but I think gin should be funded from play proceeds.

Hot Desk Space - those of us who work from home can come together once a week and pretend to be busy and important.

Excercise Class - but what? We don't actually need to turn up but it should at least appear on the calendar.

Book Club - I can't be arsed so someone else will need to volunteer for this.

So, whose in and what can you contribute?

Any other theme ideas for the Queens Jubilee event? So far we've got

Jar Jar Binks Jubilee (Star Wars theme)
Jungle Jubilee
Killer Queen Weekend (Queen tribute band)
Let it Reign (pool party)

lightand · 15/01/2022 22:34

Now I am going to start falling out with you lot.
Everyone falls out.

Let's start with the treasurer. Best place to start. Dont like her from when we were in the WI.

And Brown Owl is far too bossy for my liking.

KingJeremyTheWickedd · 15/01/2022 22:34

Killer Queen is the theme for the Murder Mystery night next month so that’s out unfortunately

Is there a separate organising Committee for Queens jubilee events ?

NotMeNoNo · 15/01/2022 22:36

Remember you can store things under the stage, accessible through a tiny trapdoor. well, except this has been going on since 1922 so not only is the understage full but also the entire stage itself so nobody dares open the curtains.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 15/01/2022 22:36

I'll do anything that needs minimal commitment, I always take on too much.

5thnonblonde · 15/01/2022 22:37

I’m not moving our slimming world meeting for the jubilee so the fete will have to end very promptly

Better not leave any left over cakes around then 🤣🥱

Are we having a street party in the car park or in front of the Green? We need to apply for permits in time this time. We can't have the same police response if we block the road again. The bus driver was not amused.

BorisBooster · 15/01/2022 22:45

I'm in charge of car park - have you asked my permission?

Waitwhat23 · 15/01/2022 22:45

Ooh, I've just found the folder of minutes from the previous Commitee, dating back to the 50's, and there are some very interesting minutes. At a Christmas Craft Fair in the 80's, two Committee members fell out over the placement of the cake stand and the next few meetings were frosty in the extreme. There was also a spat over a milk jug going missing from the kitchen cupboards in the early 2000's which was never satisfactorily explained.

BorisBooster · 15/01/2022 22:47

Do we need those old minutes ? Have you not heard of GDPR ? Do we need to retain them ? I think we need it as an agenda item for next meeting.

BouleBaker · 15/01/2022 22:50

@Namechangeforthis88

Think you'll find the scouts have commandeered the storage, if you even try to open the door you'll have mildewed tents falling out on top of you. They won't listen.
Those are NOT mildewed tents they are our Patrol Tent and Mess Tents thank you very much! We use them 3 times a year and if you would sensibly let us hang them from the rafters for a few weeks after camp they wouldn't smell at all! As for the storage Hunter Hetheryngton-Smythe organised that with the committee when we started up back in 1962. It was all agreed and we don't see any reason to change our ways now. We obviously have the hall from 5-8 Wednesdays and Thursdays to run our groups. Please can the knit and natter people not stitch rude messages in yarn to any spare woggles left lying about. The squirrels fortunately can't read yet.
Taswama · 15/01/2022 22:52

What day is the shared not-work-at-home day? I really need at break from the house? Do we have to pre book a desk?

No WiFi
BorisBooster · 15/01/2022 22:53

Someone didn't pay the bill.

100problems · 15/01/2022 22:54

You're going to need a Sliimmin Club, we don't need to actually slim as we can just dial the scales back every week

BorisBooster · 15/01/2022 22:59

Can we agree that in the Queens Jubilee year we commission a new portrait of HM to hang in the foyer ?

My niece is doing GCSE art , I'm sure she'll oblige ?

JudgeJ · 15/01/2022 23:03

@thanksamillion

The play needs a debate between the purists who want to do Chekov and the populists who want Grease. This might be resolved by a summer and winter production but there wil be a lot of seething.
Maybe try and combine Chekov and Grease, would be an interesting challenge and someone can channel their inner Linda Snell or even Kirsty.
JudgeJ · 15/01/2022 23:04

Have you got a detailed diagram of the car park? Absolutely essential.
poshme · 15/01/2022 23:05

@lightand now hang on a minute!

That business with the WI was all sorted out and it wasn't my fault. If you'd like to volunteer as treasurer please feel free to take over.
(Obvs I'll carry on signing cheques until the bank accepts the change of signatory, so I'll be in touch in 2024)

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/01/2022 23:05

I'm sorry, but none of this can happen yet.

We need to set an Instrument of Government, conduct elections for Chair and Vice Chair, determine Terms of Reference for each Committee and subcommittee together with electing chairs and vice chairs for each respectively, appoint a Clerk and determine quorum for each, minuteing the discussions, setting agreed actions and resolutions and ensuring that said minutes are approved in a timely manner.

Until this happens, nobody's doing anything. Not even Mrs Dooms-Patterson and Dolly Mountshaft coming to blows over the Music Society's annual choral extravaganza.

JudgeJ · 15/01/2022 23:06

@NotMeNoNo

I'll be on the WI, we are very modern with burlesque dancing and eco campaigns, we will use most of the store room and fall out with the other groups though. You won't ban us because we do a brilliant cake stall and/or cocktail bar at any event.
Can MN have a tune to rival the WI's Jerusalem? Any suggestions?
100problems · 15/01/2022 23:07

Do we have a Choir? That's surely an essential as it's always a sure fire way to really bring everyone together in the spirit of shared voices.

poshme · 15/01/2022 23:07

@BorisBooster

Someone didn't pay the bill.
Rubbish! Bill was paid on time.

Someone has changed the passwords. It wasn't me. Ask the Secretary. They changed the thermostat.
