Emilia Rose or Elena Rose

I'm expecting a baby girl soon and just wondering which of these names you prefer? Emilia Rose or Elena Rose? Thanks 😊

How are you pronouncing Elena? Like Eleanor?

SmallElephant · 15/01/2022 09:48

Elena Rose - beautiful.

ShinySquirrel · 15/01/2022 09:48

Both are beautiful, but Elena Rose is more unusual. I prefer that.

Why not just call her Rose? It’s the part you seem to want more than the other two. For what it’s worth, with those spellings of the other two names, she’s got a life time of correcting the spellings of her name.

Thatsplentyjack · 15/01/2022 10:56

One of them is my daughters name including the Rose but that's her middle name. Not double barrelled.

TenThousandSpoons · 15/01/2022 10:58

Both are nice but I think I prefer Elena. However I’m not sure how it’s pronounced. I think it’s got two ways to say it like Helena has.

Andtheyalllookjustthesame · 15/01/2022 11:06

Elena is too close to Helena for me, it sounds like it's just being said in a French accent.

What about Elora or Elodie? I like Emilia but prefer Amelia or Emily.

dudsville · 15/01/2022 11:11

They are both beautiful and have a nice flow. How many syllables in her surname? Syllables in your first choice are 4.1."?" Your second choice is 3.1."?" What the "?"?

Remmy123 · 15/01/2022 11:19

Both nice - assume Rose is a middle name which no one even ever uses! You don't say 'hello Elena Rose'

Unless you double barrel it

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 15/01/2022 11:23

Personally, I'd go with Eleanor, because it looks more traditional.

Rosesandnature · 15/01/2022 11:28

Yes Rose is the middle name. My surname is 2 syllables

IamChipmunk · 15/01/2022 11:54

Emilia Rose. Very similar to my daughters name! and our surname is also 2 syllables.
I think Emilia is much prettier than Amelia or Emily.

Derrymum123 · 15/01/2022 12:07

Emilia Rose is my favourite but both are lovely.

UserBot314159 · 15/01/2022 12:13

I like them both but my daughter is 18 nearly 19 and those names both seem very early 2000s to me.

I'd modernise it a bit. Ellen Rosemary for example. Emma Rosemary.

Both of those sounds a bit less frilly. I think frilly names are already sounding dated for babies.

MerryMarigold · 15/01/2022 12:21

I love Elena pronounced like Eleanor (EL-uh-nuh). Not so keen on El-AY-nuh.

Not keen on Rose. Bit frilly and ubiquitous as a middle name. I'd go with something that has meaning from your friends/ family or name you love the meaning of.

EishetChayil · 15/01/2022 12:21

Rose is the Louise/Claire/Marie of today. So common.

Yes yes, I'm sure it was your great Nan's name. But still.

timeforteaforyouandme · 15/01/2022 12:23

Maybe think about how you will feel if it gets shortened by friends eg Millie/Ellie?

Snowiscold · 15/01/2022 12:23

I like them but agree they are a bit dated. Also, Emilia will be muddled with Amelia, and Elena has about three pronunciations and will be muddled with Eleanor or Helena. Why not call her Rose, since you have that name in both suggestions?

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 15/01/2022 12:30

I absolutely cannot stand the constant use of Rose as a middle name any more. I even used it 20 years ago for my daughter's middle name and I regret it so much. Its so unimaginative. I can think of so many nicer names with much more personal meaning. It just makes me roll my eyes to hear of another xxx Rose... Do you have to use it OP? Every second girl has it as a middle name. Elena is nice though.

Frazzled2207 · 15/01/2022 12:33

I like both but both raise questions about pronunciation which put me off

EH-le-na or e-LAY-na
E-me-li-a or e-mill-ya

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 15/01/2022 12:34

Also Emilia is quite ugly sounding. Eh/uh MEALY a.

toastofthetown · 15/01/2022 12:38

Either are fine. Emilia/Amelia are so popular and there are seven El- names in the top hundred at the moment, and Rose is almost certainly the most popular middle name for girls so there's nothing objectively wrong with either of them. Why not wait until she's born and you might think one of them suits her better?

Kpo58 · 15/01/2022 12:38

Elena is nice.

Definitely go with a different middle name to Rose as it's a common as muck now. So is May, Rae, Lee, etc.

Pemba · 15/01/2022 12:46

Elena Rose - it's lovely!

Emilia is OK, but the pronunciation is ambigous - is it the same as Amelia or not? I would say pick Amelia or (preferably) Emily. Or Emmeline.

TremendouslyJolly · 15/01/2022 12:53

Elena, but much prefer Eleanor.
