Do you struggle with wearing a mask in shops?

I've always struggled with having to wear a mask and feel like I'm suffocating although I'm fully aware that I won't. I get anxiety attacks and my anxiety is based around feeling too hot and not being able to get enough fresh air.

Last couple of weeks have been a real struggle. Anybody else feel like this? I wonder how much longer we're going to have to keep wearing them.

I’ve given up. Sick of going into shops where there is no hand sanitizer or cleansing spray for the trolley.

If they can’t be bothered neither can I.

When I wear a mask I always feel like my nose is running...

I don’t wear one. Technically I’m exempt so don’t have to, although I did at the height of lockdowns etc the first time. These days I’m just sensible about sanitising hands, and keep my distance. Haven’t had covid yet - touch wood.

moregarlic · 14/01/2022 15:58

Don’t wear one if they exacerbate your anxiety. I haven’t seen any compelling evidence that cloth masks in a community setting even have much impact.

BHX3000 · 14/01/2022 15:59

I struggled right at the beginning in April 2020 when they became compulsory, but I'm now used to them. I have to wear them for 2 hours on public transport plus 5-8 hours at work each day. FFP2 only. One gets used to it...

@DesdemonaDryEyes this is virus that spreads via aerosol particles. You won't catch Covid from touching a supermarket trolley.

Twickerhun · 14/01/2022 15:59

Yeah me to. Hate the things. Can't wait for them to go. I still wear one. But they make me stressed

Samcro · 14/01/2022 15:59

me too

Do people have a go at you if you don't wear one? I don't know what I'd do if someone pulled me up on it.

This is true. Either wear a proper mask, or don't bother.

GTAlogic · 14/01/2022 16:04

Yes. I rely on lip reading more than I realised so with them on I struggle to make out what people are saying. I wear glasses too so struggle with the condensation. I still wear it but I hate it.

MotherAbigail · 14/01/2022 16:08

I struggled through last year when we had to wear them, but could only manage minutes at a time. This time I I haven’t worn one. No one has ever said anything to me, and I worried about this so much I didn’t leave the house for a week when they were reintroduced.

ShinySquirrel · 14/01/2022 16:08

I struggle with cloth masks so I wear disposable paper ones. They are lighter and I can wear one for hours with no discomfort. I am still wearing them in shops.

We've known since April 2020 that covid does not spread by people touching surfaces!

I don't like wearing masks as they always seem to ride up and half cover my eyes but I don't dither about in shops and get out asap.

Havilland · 14/01/2022 16:10

I’ve never worn one and never will.

Except for the common sense position that if you have a barrier in front of your face and the other person has a barrier in front of their face, that the nasty covid particles can't travel very easily...I can't believe people are still arguing this point nearly two years on!

No. Don’t like it much but it might save someone from getting covid so 🤷
I’m CEV now and I’m extremely grateful to anyone who reduces the risk of it going hideously wrong for me or anyone else.

StrictlySinging · 14/01/2022 16:19

As a glasses wearer I avoid shops these days due to the face masks
I can’t bear having my breath shoot up into my eyes
or face mask sitting across my eyes.
I think my nose is the wrong angle for mask wearing or something pffft

BHX3000 · 14/01/2022 16:20

@Havilland who said it was the world's deadliest virus? Confused

Put the wine down, it's a bit early.

Hemingwayzcatz · 14/01/2022 16:21

I think it’s hilarious that you have to wear them when you’re walking round aldi but don’t have to when you’re mixing with potentially hundreds of strangers in a nightclub or pub. So stupid.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/01/2022 16:21

Don't wear one. I wear one but today I forgot to take it out with me and had to go to 3 different shops. No one says anything and if they do I'd tell them to mind their business.

skellingtonboot · 14/01/2022 16:22

Could you not have posted in the Coronavirus topic? with all the other mask threads

Lacedwithgrace · 14/01/2022 16:23

I struggle when I get warm too so I wear loose clothes or layers and wear a good but comfortable mask. I shopped around and found good ones. You might find fabric masks with a charcoal filter are easier to breathe with
