What would you be and why?
I think I’d of liked to be Italian or Spanish.
Beautiful Mediterranean weather. Amazing food. Close family culture. Everything seems so much slower paced.

I think I'd stick with British, it's useful having English as a first language. But maybe Irish now as I'd still have an EU passport!

Havilland · 14/01/2022 15:49

Russian.

Onionpatch · 14/01/2022 15:52

Norwegian. I havent been there i just like the pictures and its ginamcial stability

ThirdElephant · 14/01/2022 15:54

Still British, thanks. For improved women's rights over much of the globe, crisp autumn mornings in the English countryside and the advantages that come with speaking English as a first language, without the bitter cold of Canada, the gun control and inequality of the US or the spiders of Aus. Also, the distinct lack of fault lines and extreme weather (touch wood) is nice.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 14/01/2022 15:55

Norwegian. I love the cold and I'm very introverted. I also love their landscape.

zafferana · 14/01/2022 15:56

I wish I'd been born dual nationality/language - I think that's the holy grail! My choice would be British/Italian.

Cochabamba · 14/01/2022 15:56

Dutch

TheFishWillSeeYouNow · 14/01/2022 15:57

Dutch! Fantastic culture and country.

Thirtytimesround · 14/01/2022 16:02

Ooooooh…

Probably German, if I could live near the mountains around Munich. I like their down to earth culture, their competent politicians, and the work-life balance lifestyle. It’s a nicer place to raise a family I think, UK is so hostile to mothers and children.

If not German then something else north Europe like Norway/Denmark.

Or North Italian/Greek for the location and lifestyle, but I do struggle with their attitudes to women, I don’t think I’d have liked being a teenage girl there.

I want to say American because I love San Francisco, but they are so weird about guns and their politicians are crap these days.

midsomermurderess · 14/01/2022 16:02

Dutch for me too! I'm taller than your average British woman, I like what seems to me to be their sensible, frank approach to life. Clear and direct, none of our shilly-shallying. Some lovely towns and islands, great culture, cycling. All round pretty decent placem

Hemingwayzcatz · 14/01/2022 16:34

Probably Norwegian or Swedish.

nobodysdaughter · 14/01/2022 16:41

An American, in LA if possible

Derrymum123 · 14/01/2022 16:43

Norwegian. Always seems so beautiful.

ClafoutisSurprise · 14/01/2022 16:43

I wished I was South American when I was younger as I was fascinated by it. Chile and Argentina in particular, but anywhere would have done. Now that I’m a bit older and more clued up on politics and economics, I’m quite glad I wasn’t - unless I was a dual national of an EU country, in which case I’d still love to have come from there.

These days for sensible reasons, I’d say Dutch too. For sentimental reasons I’d quite like to be Croatian.

Hoppinggreen · 14/01/2022 16:44

DH is German so I might go for that, or maybe Spanish

Italian. Love the country and the language that I can't speak but would love to learn!
Fordian · 14/01/2022 16:46

Interesting.

I'd probably choose German, for the reasons thirtytimes states. I lived there for a year aged 17/18, long ago. I'd also like a EU passport.

25 years ago, I'd've said US, but I think they're heading for some real problems.

As it happens I do have dual nationality with Australia!

Liverbird77 · 14/01/2022 16:48

Spain? Beautiful weather? You've obviously never been to the north of the country in winter!

MotherWol · 14/01/2022 16:49

Dutch for me too; I like the plain-speaking, pragmatic attitude, the cycling, the architecture. I even like the food! I’d like to be a bit taller though…

SpookyScarySkeletons · 14/01/2022 16:49

I'm with you OP. Spanish or maybe Portuguese. Beautiful food, beautiful weather.

I always imagine it to be a much slower pace of life but maybe I've been thinking about holidays too much!

Although thinking back to the last time we were allowed to go I remember the Spanish coming and joining us on the beach at 5pm ish in summer when they had finished work. I would bloody love to head straight to the beach after work!

Liverbird77 · 14/01/2022 16:49

I'd say American, but only if I could be born into a massively wealthy family!

MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2022 16:50

I have two and feel pretty lucky with the ones I’ve got (Aus / U.K.)

IpanemaPeaHen · 14/01/2022 16:51

My dc are half Dutch so it’s nice to see Dutch nationality is popular. And yes I’m very happy they have EU passports.

I would choose French, don’t tell my Dutch dh though Smile

HerRoyalHappiness · 14/01/2022 16:51

I'm happy being British.

KatharinaRosalie · 14/01/2022 16:52

It must be nice to be born Swedish. Probably same applies if you're Norwegian or Danish. The safety and security, the belief that all people are honest and nice and decent and you're not less of a human if you happen to be female..
Weather sucks a bit though and you might be quite shocked when you start to travel.
