What would you be and why?
I think I’d of liked to be Italian or Spanish.
Beautiful Mediterranean weather. Amazing food. Close family culture. Everything seems so much slower paced.

Scandinavian.
I live for winter. DD is about to do one of those ancestry dna whatsits and I'm sure we're pretty Nordic anyway.
I'm in Italy and DD is Italo-British but is definitely more northern feeling too.

Fluffypinkt · 14/01/2022 16:53

@Liverbird77 you’ve got me there! I haven’t! Although DH elderly relative went on holiday to Spain 30 years ago and never came back. she’s my hero and lived the life of Riley out there!

Another vote for Dutch. Every time we’ve been to the Netherlands or met Dutch people, I always say to OH ‘I wish I was Dutch’. It’s become a bit of a running joke. I just really like the Netherlands and I have never met a Dutch person I didn’t like.

LadyCatStark · 14/01/2022 16:57

Australian.

Ypsilanti · 14/01/2022 17:02

Irish. All the benefits of British Citizenship without the global humiliation (and absence of freedom of movement) of being one.

ItchySnoof · 14/01/2022 17:16

Definitely Spanish. I know the language, holidayed there every year as a child, love the culture, history, cuisine, everything!

If past lives were a thing I am not totally unconvinced mine wasn't in Spain or South America!

WellTidy · 14/01/2022 17:19

Spanish or Italian women always seem to have lovely, thick hair. I’d love to have thick hair. So that’s my decision made.

billydilly · 14/01/2022 17:20

Icelandic for me. Other-worldly landscape and delightfully bonkers people. Great bands too

JaneJeffer · 14/01/2022 17:22

Irish. All the benefits of British Citizenship
What does that mean?

Italian for me. Sunshine and delicious food.

user1477249785 · 14/01/2022 17:23

Surprised no one has said Canadian

Lampzade · 14/01/2022 17:25

Czech- Simply because the women are generally gorgeous.

Trinidad and Tobago- beautiful women there too

Irish - for the same reasons as another poster. They are still in the EU and the Irish passport is one of the most ‘useful’.

MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2022 17:26

If it’s how people look I’d go with Danish

But still keep Aus / U.K. ; wouldn’t want to lose them!

MissyB1 · 14/01/2022 17:28

Either Danish or Dutch. Admire their cultures.

Kanaloa · 14/01/2022 17:30

Honestly (although I criticise British government) I do appreciate being British massively. Benefits system, free healthcare, worker’s rights etc. Could be a lot lot worse!

I wouldn’t mind being Swedish or Danish as others have said. But of course I’m looking at it as an outsider so can’t really say for sure it would be better than/as good as what I’ve already got! I suppose that’s the thing, it’s easy to look at x and think ‘that must be nice’ if you don’t have the insider experience.

Ceramide · 14/01/2022 17:30

Danish. The country is clean and not too hot, there is often a good sense of community and equality and the people are statistically the happiest in the world.

MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2022 17:32

I know this isn’t all people but last time I went to Denmark I had a few comments from strangers on how they’d love to move to London

As someone who didn’t grow up in U.K. it’s a big draw for young people

IWillFartOnYourCake · 14/01/2022 17:34

Definitely not Dutch or Scandinavian.

Think I might pick Spain too.

stormy11 · 14/01/2022 17:37

New Zealand or Scandinavian

MissyB1 · 14/01/2022 17:38

@Ceramide

Danish. The country is clean and not too hot, there is often a good sense of community and equality and the people are statistically the happiest in the world.
Yes it’s this that attracts me. I would love to emigrate there, doubt they would want me though 🤣

Definitely this.

I’ve lived in the Netherlands, and while they do some things better than the UK, some things are worse. It’s not a utopia.

Footnote · 14/01/2022 17:41

Having the nationality doesn’t bestow the weather on you. I was born with Italian nationality. In Slough.

RobotValkyrie · 14/01/2022 17:43

the advantages that come with speaking English as a first language

There's no such thing. Honestly. English is dead easy to pick up and learn. Everyone else in the world ends up speaking English + at least another (mother) language.
Speaking English as a first language is a distinct cultural disadvantage, because English grammar is so weird (too simple), it makes learning other languages harder.

British passport used to bring nice perks, but not so much since Brexit... Irish passport is still pretty good, though.

Sometimes I wish I'd been born somewhere in Scandinavia, as it seems more civilised, but then I remember the lack of sun in winter. No way I could cope with that...

TheVanguardSix · 14/01/2022 17:44

Nigerian. I just feel like they're surrounded by so many aunties and food. Food and aunties. That's exactly what I need in my life... aunties to the point of total annoyance but with loving intentions. I'd really like that... and loads of jollof rice. Plus they're such beautiful people.
I wouldn't mind being from Cape Verde or Sri Lanka either. Stunning people in both places plus stunning landscapes.

As it happens, I'm Czech-Irish, which to me is rather dull. Grin I ate a lot of potatoes growing up and if I ever bleed out, I'll need a Pilsner-Guinness infusion as opposed to the usual O+ transfusion.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2022 17:45

Still British!

Glitterygreen · 14/01/2022 17:46

Irish I think :)
